Review: !!! --This text refers to the DVD edition of this video: I get the impression that many of the reviewers here and in other publications haven't read more than "Tarzan of the Apes," if that. I've read the 23 Tarzan books and if another 50 are found in a safe and published I'd get and read those too! I've lost track of the number of times I read them starting about 1937 but it must be at least 20 times. So I looked at this movie from the point of view of a sophisticated reader with the question, "Would ERB have appreciated this retelling of his story along with the special effects?" The answer, I'm sure, is, "Yes!" ERB died before the development of the computer-derived special effects but if he had them available I am sure he would have used them. After all, many of his 58 books were science-fiction, such as the Mars series, the Venus series, the Pellucidar series, and so on. The actors seem to have researched the characters beyond the script by going to the ERB books; much of the story is true to the source. I quickly became enmeshed in the story. I see none of the quirks noted in other reviews. I highly recommend this film for all lovers of ERB's works.

Summary: Best Tarzan film in recent history
Review: ...I don't think it is totally correct to say this film had no entertainment value or was not enjoyable. I grew up with Tarzan and have waited for years to see him come back to the big screen as a hero that my kids could associate with. Unfortunately, they are now grown and the attempts of Hollywood in their generation have fallen miserably short. I have read almost all of the Tarzan novels and I wish someone would actually take some of them and make a good film from say "Tarzan the Magnifcant" or "Tarzan the Terrible" where Tarzan is involved in adventure and fights against those who would invade his jungle and people he has vowed to protect. Why can't Tarzan be a hero for this generation? I enjoyed Casper Van Dien as Tarzan and would like to see him try again with a better script and director. Either that or give Joe Lala more to work with and get him away from that made for TV look and silliness.

Review: An addendum to my prior review: Yes, there are elements of the movie that hearken back to the ERB novels (I have read most of them). Regardless, that alone does not make this film worthwhile.

Summary: One Of The Best
Review: Besides the new Disney movie - which I loved just for the soundtrack alone - I thought this was the best Tarzan movie yet to be made. Light on the special effects (perfect) and big on the abilities and personality of Tarzan himself. Thank god they did not make him to be "big, dumb, strong type" as in those stupid old shows. I definately rate this as a must see.

Summary: Cool Animated Comic Book
Review: Bought this for a few bucks out of nostalgia for my only boyhood fiction hero. Never was into superheroes. Tarzan was a character who could be real. Anyway, this version was fun. Yeh, there were imperfections, but I enjoyed the effort. It's like an animated comic book. Not a serious film. Just fun. Van Dien is physically right, small but agile, strong, & buff, like a jungle guy might be. He's also smart, & that's right, too. Cool.

Review: Casper Van Dien proves to be the sexiest and most charming of all Tarzans. With his muscular physique and 29-inch waist, he brings out the word "ape" in ape man. Jane March is an extremely beautiful (and capable) actress...as well as funny. Steve Waddington, as always, has outdone himself as the villain. I have only one question about the box. Why is Tarzan, a friend of all African animals, pictured wearing a leopard skin loin cloth?

Review: good film for kids, nothing is overly graphic. some commentary has been made about van dien's stature by goobers like leonard martin, who ake it their job to get burned out on movies. didn't notice to tell you the truth; it's good but light family entertainment.

Summary: A Very Good Example of How a Tarzan Movie Should Be
Review: I have read quite a few of the Tarzan books, and the one thing that I have disliked about previous Tarzan films is the fact that Tarzan is portrayed as illiterate and unable to speak in complete sentences. In the books, he taught himself to read, and ended up speaking both English and French. I enjoyed this movie baised on that fact alone. It is refreshing to see a movie that closely follows the book it is based on, which is quite a rarity. If you are a fan of ERB's Tarzan books, and appreciate movies that stay close to the original plot, then you will enjoy this movie. Casper van Dien made a perfect Tarzan, and Jane March was a creditable Jane.

Review: I paid $4.00 for this film and that was about $3.50 to much. Both the writer's and actor's of this film should be ashamed of themselves.
