Summary: Beats KILL BILL
Review: Anyone who thinks KILL BILL is the first and last word in chambara/grindhouse kung fu films really need to see this earlier film.

BLOOD OF THE SAMURAI may not have a hip soundtrack, name actors, or much of a budget, but it does have a lot of love for the genre. It borrows from HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS, NINJA III: THE DOMINATION, and every show ever on KIKU-TV, but it deosn't have a rip-off feel to it the way KILL BILL does. Oh yeah, it also beats KB's over the top blood spurting with some interesting(and surprising) effects by Screaming Mad George.

If you wanna see an honest tribute instead of someone's egofest, watch this!

Review: Blood of the Samurai is not a good flick; not even for a b-movie. A half-baked story, really bad dialogue, and poor acting (except for Micheal Ng) combine to make it impossible to enjoy. Don't believe the hype, especially those that give this a 5-star rating.

It even has a disclaimer in the beginning, explaining to the viewer that it's "camp" and should be made fun of. If it were any good, you'd think they could leave that up to the viewer to decide?

As much as I'd like to support local (Hawaii) filmmakers, i can't recommend it, especially not for $26.

Summary: worst movie ever
Review: I have seen better movies made by highschool kids for extra credit; come to think of it every video i saw in highschool made by the students was more profesionaly done and more entertaning. The acting wasnt even good enough for cheap porn. reading about it makes it sound good because it says its won all sorts of awards and has great special effects but the effects suck and i dont see how anyone gave an award to this crap.

Summary: Comic book camp
Review: I thought it was a lot of fun. If you think you might like Wayne's World meets Kurosawa on a (very?) low budget than this is a film for you. A good flick to have in the background on poker night. Caution: If you are looking for a high brow, high budget, sweeping cinematic epic then consider something else.

Summary: Super cool independent violent comic book movie
Review: I was fortunate enough to catch this great film in the theatres when it opened at the Hawaii International Film Festival. Blood of the Samurai has all the action and fun that you wouldn't expect from an indie film! A must-buy!

Summary: great low budget martial arts flick
Review: Made on a micro sized budget of 2,000 dollars this Samurai is a well developed story. Action and adventure can be found throughout the movie.

Two friends find a couple of ancient samurai swords, all of a sudden they are transformed into warriors on opposite sides. This movie also spawned a tv series. Buy it and suport underground action films!

Summary: But it had all these awards...
Review: Oops. I saw the ad and gave in to all the awards I saw, later seeing it at Dole theatre. As a local indie filmmaker and supporter, I don't understand how a film can be "shot" so badly, and with $2,ooo, that's a lot of money to work with (try it w/$1oo). A friend of mine bought it for $2o. She later would weep and say, "I've been screwed. And my thighs are weeping." But she kept it, seeing how she's a movie hound. (Although she did return a copy she got for Christmas.)

Aloha!

Review: Reminds me of the good ol' days of Black Belt Theater without the voice overs. Enjoyed it immensely . . . highly recommend watching this flick!
