Summary: Film for the Spirit, Heart, and Mind !
Review: Dragonfly is one of those rare sleeper films about the supernatural and spiritual that comes and goes in the theatre without much of a buzz (no pun intended)!Or even if it did make a buzz was somehow forgotten by the movie going public ! While it's been compared to everything ever made in the film world about ghosts and the afterlife one thing remains to make it stand apart from the rest; It truly does tell a damn good story from beginning to end. The way it was directed and written keeps the viewer guessing to the very end as to what's inside the "rainbow" or at the end of the rainbow ! As astute as I like to think that I am when watching this genre of film even I wanted to know where Joe (Kevin Costner) was going (insane or to an actual place spiritual or otherwise)...Was his character's wife alive or dead ? I still could not figure out where the ending was leading to, until...well, just watch the film !Performance by Costner is, well Kevin Costner playing Kevin Costner,...which means that unless you're a fan of his (which I've never been) or enjoy films of the spiritual and supernatural then this will satisfy. Kathy Bates' neighbor/lawyer supporting role is cynical yet caring who watches out for Joe (and "Big Bird") but begins to seriously think he's loosing his grip on reality !She insists that he "move on" and "go on a trip". At times, the film could use a little more "moving along" but it still captivates the viewer's attention !

Summary: "Meet Emily in the Rainbow"
Review: "Meet Emily in the Rainbow" Doctors Joe (Kevin Costner) and Emily (Susanna Thompson) Darrow dreamed of curing the world's ills; but when an urgent call for aid in Venezuela comes through Joe doesn't believe it's feasible to respond particularly with Emily being pregnant. Emily disagrees and goes without him. Emily is killed during a landslide in the rainy season. Joe is devastated and throws himself into his work at the hospital where they'd both been employed. Joe starts experiencing odd paranormal phenomena centered on his wife's favorite insect, the Dragonfly. He believes Emily may be trying to communicate with him. Friends tell him that he's delusional and that he just needs to grieve. While visiting the children's cancer ward where Emily worked, he receives messages from her conveyed to these children during near death experiences. They led him to return to the place of her death where her final gift to him awaits. Dragonfly was a realistic portrayal of the desperate measures, often found frightening by the living; restless spirits will take to get their message across. The only scene I had a problem with was Emily speaking through the organ donor; but still I won't rule the possibility out. Though the brain is gone that doesn't mean that another soul couldn't manipulate the vocal cords. It made for a scary scene.

Summary: Ok movie a bit cheesy though
Review: Costner as you know made terrible movies (The Postman :O) in his carreer (and great stuff too though) Well I decided to give a shot to this one. Even if it's not the best movie ever and not the best acting from Costner, I will say I was positively surprised. The end is a bit cheesy (kind of girly end) but I liked the work made by the director and cinematographer, the lighting and SFX were good too. It's a good entertaintement for an empty afternoon if you see what I mean.

Summary: Oh, please!
Review: I usually like most of the Costner films that the critics hate but this is one truly silly movie. The pacing is so slow you could knit a sweater between scenes and not miss anything. There are continuity errors abounding (Kevin receives an internet order his late wife placed. In the first scene the label shows Dr. Emily Darrow. In the next the label shows Emily Darrow. Hmmn.) Kathy Bates is completely wasted in a nothing role with a butch haircut, making peculiar references to a dead female who could've been her partner or her child. It's never clarified. So that one's up for grabs, but it's always sad to see a gifted performer struggle to infuse life into something that will not, just will not get up and breathe. And while Costner gives a decent performance as a grief-stricken new widower, the plot is so foolish that it's almost painful to sit through this movie. I predicted the ending about a third of the way through and there's a whole lot of nonsense to get through before that ending finally comes. Meanwhile the landslide that did in Dr. Emily purportedly revealed a previously undiscovered tribe. Yet when Kevin finally returns to Venezuela and hires someone to fly him to the region, this tribe has a truck (wonder how it got there, given the need to fly into the place) and machine guns. This is a script that purports to be about faith. I think the only faith involved is the viewer's in believing it's worth the price and it is not. This movie isn't unwatchable but it sure is annoying.

Review: This was proboble the worst romance/horror film ever made. The plot was pointless and the story line was poor. They tried to make it scarey using sudden loud noises. That about it.

Summary: It's about life, death, comprehension, spirituality, birth
Review: I am going to express my honest opinion and overall view of this movie in as few words as possible. This movie is well made. It is a movie that begins with love, unfolds with a great mystery, an endless search for the depth and comprehension of life without a love one, depth and comprehension of life's new meaning in understanding death, and in connecting with the birth of new life. I had to watch this movie twice, same night. It is an emotionally and spiritually powerful movie. If one put aside criticism, for the sake of criticising what is valued as good or bad, and look at the depth of life; man's greatest gift, and appreciate and embrace it wholeheartedly, one would be able to explore and understand this movie's innner beauty and powerful messages. Summary: Nice movie!
Review: Well I actually rented this DVD without much expectations but I found it to be a very entertaining and original film. Even if Costner's performance isn't totally convincing, amazing Kathy Bates makes it up. The plot, as I said, is very original and combines some horror with suspense and drama. It could be compared in some way to SIXTH SENSE or THE OTHERS, even If it's not as good as those. The ending is quite surprising and I can guarantee you that you will turn off the tv thinking it was worth it. So stop hesitating and watch it!!!! a nice Friday night movie!

Review: Joe (Kevin Costner ) is an emergency doctor who lives in Chicago with his wife Emily (Linda Peterson) who is a pediatrician.While she was in Venezuela she died in a bus accident that the bus felt in the river. After her death, Joe started carrying his Emily patients, who has cancer. Moreover the patients said to Joe that Emily had a message for him; first Joe didn't believe in their but they are believable and we can think of where we will or won't go when we died, and after it the life has more value for us. Many stong things, like "supernaural" e spiritual world started happening in Joe's life: stong voices, ojects moving, his parrot and the children's drawing ( Jeferry and Ben, for example). So Joe try to connect with Emily and if you know how the movie ends, rent this dvd. This movie is surprising, wonderful and exciting.

Summary: Spiritual Journey?
Review: Tom Shadyac's Dragonfly bills itself as a spiritual journey and this may or may not be the case.All in all the film is not really bad but it moves at a glacial pace, is bogged down by heavy acting and has an ending so contrived as to make one feel that he was watching a Hallmark presentation rather than a feature film. Listening to the commentary to this fim is the most enlightening part of the experience. Shadyac, known as a comedy director explains in some detail that had he the chance to do it all over again he would have made differnet choices. Like I said the movie isn't really bad biut it isn't Academy award material either. The story follows the life of Dr. Joe Darrow (Costner) following the sudden death of his wife. Darrow refuses to grieve burying himself in his job as an emergency room doctor. This is when the wierd stuff begins to happen. It seems that the deceased wife is trying to contact him. The question is for what reason? The film hasa great deal of under used talent. Little more than cameos by Ron Rifkin, Joe Morton, Linda Hunt, and Kathy Bates. One feels that had some of the supporting actors been able to be developed a little better this would have been a better film. It appears that Shadyac was holding out for the surprise ending which is not really a surprise if the viewer pays the slightest bit of attention. For a film that deals with questions of faith this is not realy a religious movie but a personal exploration of belief by the main character. This is a good date movie however it does not offer the viewer that experience that it could have had it been developed a little better Listen to the commentary after you see the movie because it does expose the surprise ending in its first few moments. The balance of the special features include an interview with Betty Eadie on her near death experience and some deleted scenes without commentary. The usual Spotlight on Location is also featured.

Summary: A Truly Inspirational and Emotional Rollercoaster Ride
Review: What can I say about this movie. I first wanted to see it because, from the look of the previews, it looked like a haunted house flick (at least the previews I saw). However, it turned out to be so much better than that. The movie is about death and life and whether or not we go on after we die. I loved the performances of the two children who bring Emily's message to Joe. They were truly touching and believable. I also loved the message that faith alone can take you anywhere. Also wonderful is the transformation of Joe from a skeptic to a believer when strange things start happening in his life. Most would just ignore them or find a rational explanation for them. I myself have always believed that there is more to the universe than science can explain and have believed many stories (but not all) of out of body experiences and messages from beyond. Another wonderful idea is that heaven is what we make it to be and the consciousness lives on. This is given by the nun played by Linda Peterson. Kevin Costner gives a great performance as the grieving husband, although sometimes he seems to have spaced out. Also, Cathy Bates does an excellent job as his next-door neighboor who helps him through the grieving process. Of course, the best part of this movie is the ending. It is completely surprising and wonderful at the same time. You'll have to watch to find out what it is though!
