Rating: Summary: GREAT INTENSE ACTION!!! Review: This movie is so intense. Very gripping and action packed. It will definetely take you for a ride. It's a little creepy to know that there are people out there capable of things like that if they're pushed far enough. It doesn't have a real complicated story to it which keeps it simple yet it draws you in with it's great actors who keep it easy to stay caught up in. Highly recommended for those who like action/adventure/suspensful movies. For the girls out there, it shows Paul Walker's cute [behind], so it's definetely worth seeing for that! Have fun watching this one!
Rating: Summary: Solid movie, great DVD. Review: The "Duel" influence seems to be getting heavier. Breakdown in 1997. And now both Jeepers Creeper and Joyride have taken elements from that Spielberg telefilm and had moderate success. Lewis (Paul Walker) is on his way to pick up girlfriend-prospect Venna (Leelee Sobieski). Along the way he stops and picks up ne'er-do-well brother Fuller (Steve Zahn). Fuller buys a CB radio for no adequately explained reason and the fun begins. Fuller convinces Lewis to pull a prank on a trucker by the handle of Rusty Nail. When the prank backfires and someone nearly gets killed the trucker turns on the two boys and follows them in his truck. After some cat-and-mouse, the boys escape death a couple of times and pick up Venna thinking that it's over, but Rusty Nail isn't exactly the most stable trucker driving the earth. The story is pretty much just a chase movie after that. The movie lost me at the beginning of the third act. I don't mean I couldn't follow the plot, I just mean that there's a certain scene which turned me off to Fuller and Venna and I didn't care whether they lived or died. It was the scene just after the three return to the hotel after drinking at the bar. Fuller goes from being a lovable screw-up to being a backstabbing jerk and Venna is just too stupid (willing?) to say anything. I know this may seem like a minor point to those who watched the movie, but those characters were completely lost to me for the third act. It didn't have to be done like that. The ending is pretty suspenseful, especially if you've seen John Dahl's previous work. I went in thinking it could have a Seven-ish and it was pretty close. It COULD have happened a certain way. The DVD is pretty awesome. The coolest extra is the "More than One Rusty Nail" feature which allows you to listen to the other men who tried out for the part. 4 Alternate endings -- most of which are pretty different from the original. My only complaint is that the endings aren't "finished". If they had been I'd rank the DVD right up there with one's like Fight Club and T2 Special Edition. Joyride, like Breakdown before it, is a solid movie that gets credit for being a great movie because it comes from mediocre times. It's not genre-defining or groundbreaking, but it's certainly worthy enough to go on your shelf.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie with a lot of extras!!!! Review: Joy Ride was 100% better than I expected and the extras on this DVD was the best I've seen yet!!! The movie handles about two brothers playing a joke on this truck driver and he ends up going crazy and tries to kill them. The movie didn't lack at all and entertained me very well... the only thing I ddn't like in this movie was the actual ending (Not the deleted ones), it made me somewhat angry BUT there are 4 different ending and on the back of the DVD it says not only deleted scenes, but a whole new movie and they were correct! The deleted scenes that include the ending start somewhere in the middle of the movie and goes all the way until the end, and the only thing i have to say is that the different ending made me happy so i was no longer dissapointed after i watch the other endings! This is a great fil and is a MUST BY!!! The acting was also very good, especially from Steve Zahn and Leelee Sobieski, they played these roles very believable!!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, Suprising Thriller Review: With such an plot of a psycho killer chasing college kids with a tractor trailer, and young actors like Zahn, Walker, and Sobieski, "Joy Ride" seemed like a teen thriller. But, after the first viewing, all my misconceptions were wrong. The movie is truly terrifying, with many twists and turns that I really didn't expect. Zahn and Walker are wonderful as brothers, and Zahn is very funny. The voice of Rusty Nail is truly haunting, and the sequencies here leave you guessing what's going to happen next. Sobieski is extra for eye candy, and boy, does she produce it. Overall, it could have been longer to be a thriller to remember, but its' 96 minute performance keeps you in your seat. The action is great, the suspense is heart pounding, and Joy Ride is one hell of of a ride you'll want to see over and over again.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie! Review: I watchied this movie last night and I was on the edge of my seat. I loved the action and suspense. I think that I've seen a movie like this before, but I don't recall what the name of it is. Anyway it was a great movie and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Three Words Review: I'm going to pick out three words to describe this movie: unbelievable, underdeveloped, and impressive. Let's take 'em one at a time. Unbelievable. Yes, the movie definitely is unbelievable. But what of it? Let's take a classic of the suspense/thriller genre, NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Not that they're in anywhere near the same class, but just humor me. Are you telling me that movie is believable? Of course not. But, when a movie is well executed, most of us are willing to suspend belief for a while. (Afterall, isn't the general purpose of movies to take us out of the real world for a few hours? Sure, give me a DEAD MAN WALKING once in awhile, but keep the popcorn flicks close at hand.) The strongest thing JOY RIDE has going for it is it's execution. I have never seen a movie that moves this fast while staying so coherent, and it stays away from over explaining everything that's happening in the story. The last being the fatal faux-pas in my book, killing a movie faster than you can say "ice truck". John Dahl shows stong signs of respecting and not underestimating his audience. He proves this well with the corn field chase. Underdeveloped. Again, take N BY NW. How much do you know about Roger Thornhill? Practically nothing. But Cary Grant is just so much fun to watch, who really cares about character development? The characters in JOY RIDE have a similar charisma. Steven Zahn and Leelee Sobieski are undeniably talented, and Paul Walker is good looking enough with a non-annoying presence to make up for his acting weaknesses. The plot, on the other hand, was surprisingly well-developed for the genre. Occurances that seem like predictable plot devices at the beginning, are used later on to great effect. Impressive. I had to question my four star rating, maybe it was a bit too high. But it's just so rare these days to get a movie with a script at least attempting to be intelligent; a movie that doesn't feel the inexclipable need to use sex & excessive violence; a movie that, although containing a semi-predictable ending, leaves us with a few lines of understated, nearly perfect poetic dialogue that I didn't mind feeling slightly hog-swaggled. While I'm not a big fan of large studio productions of the last 30 years, this movie proves that the independents don't corner the market on clever little movies. Give me a thrilling, modest JOY RIDE anyday.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful and frightening. Review: I was pleasantly surprised at what a great film this was. The story of the two brothers traveling cross country to pick up a friend starts off rather low key. Lewis decides to go pick up a girl he likes named Venna at her college and ends up having to take his troubled brother, Fuller, with him. The latter decides to get a cb radio and from then on the action begins. The mischievous Fuller talks Lewis into playing a prank on a trucker called Rusty Nail only to end up driving the guy into a psychotic rampage. As the film progresses, there is a growing sense of dread as one crazy thing happens after another. The guys soon learn what happens when you play a joke on the wrong person. There is even a nude scene for the girls though sadly for the guys, Leelee stays clothed. This film can be fun at times and Steve Zahn was great as Fuller. This one is great from beginning to end and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. An all around great film with a solid dvd loaded with extras. A wild, scary ride!
Rating: Summary: FASTER AND MORE FURIOUS Review: This movie is AWESOME! Very scary at times. Poor Paul Walker, always getting in car chases. A faster and more furious ride for Paul. Very scary at some parts and is definately worth owning.
