Rating: Summary: Suspensful like Hitchcock and oscar worth acting !!! Review: (my english isn't very good, so sorry if I have wrong words)Introducing: I don't know why this movie flopped. It's one of the five best I have ever seen in my life (and I've seen every Hitchcock, Spielberg and Fincher movie). But I think it wasn't succesful, because everybody thought it's another Teen-Slasher -and this movies were in past very bad- (Thirteen ghosts - bad, Jeepers Creepers - very bad, Ghosts of Mars - ARRGHH). But the director John Dahl didn't borrow from Slasher movies, he borrowed from Spielbergs Duel and Hitcher. Acting: Leelee Sobieski, Paul Walker and Steve Zahn are the leading actors and I tell you: Everybody will win the Oscar in other movies in the future. This 3 actors are SOOO talented. They are sexy and the performances are fantastic. I think Paul, Leelee and Steve are now my favourite actors of all time. I love they. Directing: John Dahl is a great camera worker and there are great places in this movie. The script is great written. This movie is very suspensful. I'm schocked by the ending. WOW WHAT A FLASH. I think - no, I HOPE - there should be a Sequel. I don't know because only succesful movie have a Sequel, but I HOPE I HOPE PLEASE PLEASE JOHN DAHL MAKE A SEQUEL. If they make a Sequel I wish one of this 3 (Venna, Fuller or Lewis) die and the other 2 kill Rusty Nail, but I don't know: Joy Ride 2 or not? I don't know but hope every day!
Rating: Summary: What A Ride!! Review: Now I call it a "classic", because in my opinion it deserves the title. For me it ranks right up there with Wait Until Dark starring Audrey Hepburn and Rear Window (the orginal) for sheer nail-biting suspense. There is something so completely terrifing about a menacing voice and so nerve racking about not knowing who or where it's coming from, imagination is something thrillers these days have rarely let the audience use. The language in this film is what earns its R rating and while the scences of chase are intense the violence, in comparison to other recent horror flicks, seems tame. I really liked this movie, and I would drone on and on about who is who and the plot, but reviews like that simply take too long and as I seem to have the attention span of a fruit fly it's better if I keep it brief. I will just say the Joy Ride is a thrill ride worth taking.
Rating: Summary: 5-star-movie: Joy Ride Review: This movie has it all.... fear, anticipation, and even some black humor in the right spots! When they say its a "White knuckle thriller", they are right on! I was on the edge of my seat squeezing my husband's hand the whole time !!
Rating: Summary: Popcorn movie at his best. Review: I for one thoroughly enjoyed this movie. And I know I am not the only one. This movie is all about suspense with some black humor tossed in. You should really compare it to classic road thrillers like Duel & Breakdown, instead of the average teenage fright flicks like I know what you did last summer. John Dahl, the director, doesn't go overboard on violence and gore. He only hints at them. In fact, the audience doesn't even see this movie's most violence scene. They HEAR it, and that makes the scene far scarier. Even the villian is never clearly revealed. We only hear his creepy voice, and that makes him far scarier. Afterall, it's what we don't see that scares us. Aside from the scare factor, the movie is also quite funny. Don't get me wrong, there are no unintentional laughs. The movie's funny because it's supposed to be, thanks to Steve Zahn. He delivers his lines like a comic pro (the part when he saved Venna at the bar was hilarious), and does a great job acting really really scared. In fact, all three leads, Steve Zahn, Paul Walker and LeeLee Sobieski, did a great job. They made me care about them, and that's saying something. Usually, actors in scary movies tend to be really annoying and stupid, and I end up rooting for them to get killed so I won't have to endure their bad acting anymore. But in this case, I actually rooted for the heroes because they were likable. Anyway, this movie was a really joy ride. I've been going to movies all year, waiting for that rare popcorn movie that is actually more enjoyable than the popcorn. Well, I finally found it.
Rating: Summary: Intensive movie !!!!!! Review: I bought "Joy Ride" yesterday on DVD. I had very high expections, and let me tell you this movie did not disappoint. "Joy Ride" is one of the is ine of the best movies to be released as of lateley, and definatly the best horror movie I have ever seen. This movie is definatly scary, but thats ok (...). The movie is more than just out to scare you though, it is very enyoyable, at times it is down right hilarious. Steve Zahn gives on of the more impressive performances that I've seen in recent movies. See this movie, it is awesome !!!
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece of masterpieces ! Review: I don't know why John Dahl's movies aren't successfull, because nobody makes thriller better than he does. Joy Ride is a must-see film, because it takes quirky characters and sticks them into increasingly bizarre and dangerous circumstances. And this time around there is plenty of action to boot. Paul Walkers performance is much better here than he was in 'The Fast And The Furious', Steve Zahn is - as usual - outstanding, and Leelee Sobieski is sooo... GRRRRR ;)
Rating: Summary: Leelee, Steve and Paul are fantastic in this best of 2001/02 Review: What starts out as light-hearted romp into a tense thriller that had my heart beating and my nails digging into the seat cushions on DVD. What was even nicer about it was the pacing which allowed for moments of humor and lightness -- perhaps these only increased the tension. Masterful work with fantastic actors. Niceley filmed and what eye candy!
Rating: Summary: Scariest Thriller I've ever seen !!! Review: JOY RIDE is a terrifying thriller! Definiteley the scariest I've seen in my life. It's a very very rare kind of movie, that seriously scares the pants off of you, and has you shaking like a manic in your seat! The extremely talented cast features Paul Walker(as Lewis Thomas), Steve Zahn(as Fuller Thomas), and Leelee Sobieski(as Venna Wilcox). A bitof trivia: Ted Levine(who played Buffalo Bill in The Silence Of The Lambs wonderfully performs the role of Rusty Nail, the psychotic and vengeful truck driver. For those who are looking for a scary(and quite funny)movie, go and see this! Congrats to John Dahl for a solid hit!
Rating: Summary: Formulaic fun, with a touch of style Review: A perfectly adequate teen thriller which recreates the highway anxieties of films like "Duel" and "The Hitcher" for a whole new generation. Paul Walker and Steve Zhan are appealing as the morally opposite but equally terrified CB-prankster brothers. Tarver and Abrams' screenplay mixes tension and comedy in just the right doses, and John Dahl's stylish and efficient direction will have you squirming and jumping right on time. It looks good and sounds good, too - a pleasant change for a teen film - and Marco Beltrami's music is highly effective. Overall, this is fast, formulaic, Friday night fun - and as that, it really works.
Rating: Summary: The title says it all !!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Movie: JOYRIDE was an unexpected surprise, breathed a little bit of fresh air into this genre. Steve Zahn was hilarious, Rusty Nail was creepy psycho and the climax is totally suspense-filled. The ending is great, but the alternate ending is much better, but that's no problem. JOYRIDE is - next to "The Others" and "Panic Room" - the scariest movie i've seen this year. DVD: Great sound and picture, many specials: 3 Commentaries from Leelee Sobieski and Steve Zahn/Director John Dahl/Writer Clay Tarver, Trailers, 30 minutes alternate ending, 4 short alternate endings, delected scene, Making-of and a voice-featurette from Rusty Nail
