Summary: ONE OF THE WORST MARTIAL ARTS MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
Review: For a martial arts movie, it stinks. The acting is so slow and boring I almost fell asleep. Even the few awful fight sequences failed to wake me up. The "flying" sequences are so artificial too. Where on earth did they learn to fly like that? Come on, get real, man.
Now, if you want to watch a truly great martial arts movie, I strongly recommend either "Once Upon A Time In China" starring Jet Li (before he started acting in those bad Hollywood movies) or "Iron Monkey" starring the fantastic Donnie Yen. Those are truly GREAT martial arts movies. Do yourself a favour, avoid "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"... a great disappointment! It doesn't even deserve the one Star rating.

Summary: I'm in the minority on this one.
Review: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee, 2001)

I feel like something of an apostate saying this about a film directed by Ang Lee (The Ice Storm and many other fine films), and starring Chow Yun-Fat (The Corruptor and many other fine films) and Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies and many other... oh, well, you can't win 'em all), nominated for more academy awards than Steven Spielberg has teeth, and ranked at one time at #6 on IMDB's all-time top 250 (as I write this, it languishes-- relatively-- at #27) but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon left me cold. Worse yet, I think the very reason the film had so little effect on me is the exact reason most of those who loved it so did-- the choreography. The fight scenes were so impossibly over-the-top that the film lost anything that could be considered realism after the first ten minutes. Even the worst Jackie Chan movie retains at least a modicum of realism (note I do realize while saying this that that's because Jackie Chan does his own stunts, and if we didn't all know that, etc.).

Were it possible to divorce the surrounding film from the fight scenes therein, you'd still have a pretty flat movie. The plot takes a few amusing twists now and again, but the script is written with a jaundiced eye towards the "You! Killed! My! Brother! Now!... I must!... kill you!" dialogue parodied so many times by so many films, and it never gives a hint that it's not taking itself seriously.

If you thought The Matrix would have been a far superior film without the special effects, you really want to avoid this. The Corruptor will do you one better. Trust me. **

Summary: Something Stinks..........
Review: I can't begin to comprehend what all the hype was about this movie.

Summary: Crouching Snoozefest, Hidden Boredom
Review: OK, there was a hint of a good story in here, but this turkey was way more style than substance.

Totally odd looking effects....you could almost see the wires lifting the actors and actresses.

Summary: Dragon is but a worm.
Review: From an honest audience point of view :
A very over-rated film from a very versatile Director (Sense and Sensibility, Eat Drink Man Woman). An iron cast of actors: Chow Yuen Fat ,Michelle Yeoh. But I am sure that Chow has done more dramatic role and Michelle has better fighting scenes in her previous films. Maybe I was bought up seeing a lot of Kung Fu films in China so there is nothing new in this film that I haven't seen before. If you want to see similar films,go and watch any of the films of Hark Tsui who really made these flying on trees scenes famous. After all is said, though, I am so happy that this film opened a new market in Hollywood. In order to climb to yet another height, the Asian Kung Fu film must co-operate with the West, especially in learning how to incorporate background music which, in my opinion, is the weakest link in any Asian Kung Fu film. ....

Summary: Pretty good
Review: I didn't originally see this one in the movies. I ended up getting it on DVD. I was actually quite surprised to find I liked it. The production was very good and the English dubbing was well done (enough so that you don't have the classic asian movie mouth moving while no speaking). Some of the martial arts things were over the top, though.

This movie is an adventure wrapped inside of two love stories. Each love story takes a different ending at the end. One that was definitely engineered to make people sad. The other was tough luck. :-)

This movie is enjoyable for both guys and gals. Enough action and character development to keep everyone watching. As entertaining as Jackie Chan it isn't, but still worth watching.

Summary: boring
Review: This movie was completely unbelievable. People running up walls, flying through the air while they were fighting. I liked a few of the stars but it was just a huge disappointment for me. If I had not heard anything about the movie I might have given it an extra star but my expectations were high so it added to my disappointment. I expected a great flick but I got a high budget B-flick. Do not buy this. Wait for it to come on T.V. and then only watch it if you have nothing else better to do.

Summary: Stunning
Review: This was truly a wonderful film. The storyline was everything you could want in one! Fantasy, in its most stunning form, was presented here. There were some unneeded parts - like the "bedroom" scenes, but other than that, this film was amazing.

Summary: Save this movie for when you catch it on a flight.
Review: This movie is not so great at all. As a matter of fact when I saw it on video I was only too glad that I did not waste [money] to go see it in the theaters. It's basically a cheap, and shallow movie. The characters are all very shallow, you dont really get to know or sympathize with any of them. In the end I coulda cared less who killed who. And special effects in the movie dont even make sense. In some of the fight scenes, they float up into the air, fly over trees and mountains, and are able to run vertically up walls. Sure these effects where awesome in the Matrix, where they actually made sense in the story line, but this is not the Matrix. Really, I do not see how or why everyone thinks this is such a great movie. I do not see it at all. I have no idea how it won those academy awards. Save your money, there are many better movies out there with some actual depth and meaning to them. If you haven't seen it yet, dont just go and buy it, rent it first and save yourself the dissapointment from having spend [the price] on such a lame movie.
