Summary: Ah but the fight scenes...
Review: I ususally sit there and yawn at fight scenes [Shades of TV Batman] in movies but the pace and the direction in this one hooked me. Worth it to kills some time and some popcorn when you want to shut your mind off. If you are out to be totally impressed... Why are you watching movies like this anyways?

Summary: I'm not a Segal fan, so maybe my vote doesn't count...
Review: I was never a fan of Steven Segal. I found his movies a lot like Van Dam's -- pure action, no plot and little (if any) notable actors. This film is no exception. The other main stars are Morris Chestnut (spelling?) and Ja Rule...wow what a relief! The films plot evolves around an undercover FBI agent (Segal -- of course!) who gets busted with a stolen car (just a cover) with his criminal friend (Ja Rule). Their sent to the pen and soon after the pen is taking over by a group of 'terrorist?' who want some money they are owed. Not much plot, too much action, no good actors and little (if any) direction. No wonder this film stayed in post-production for almost two-years -- Steven Segal, please quit deluting our cinema with this garbage!

Summary: Still better than most Van Damme movies
Review: I wasn't expecting much out of this movie, but it was suprisingly tolerable. The fight scenes are good, although I don't like those lame camera effects where something's in slow motion, then suddenly it's in fast motion for 2 seconds, then back to slow motion. Nia Peeples was awesome. I've never seen her like this before. This makes me forget about her lame charactor in The Blues Brothers 2000. The bad guys are led by Morris Chestnut, who was Segeal's sidekick in Under Siege 2 as the porter on the train. He does a decent job as the villian. Then, of course, there's a couple of rap singers trying to get into acting. Ja Rule and Kurupt (?) They're acting is okay, but I don't see them winning any academy awards for Best Supporing Actor in this movie. This dvd is worth checking out if you like Steven Segeal movies. It's already in the "cheap" section at certain stores. I guess that's just because only 4 people saw the movie in the theater.

Summary: One question
Review: I would really like to know why almost every film that I like lately, is put down badly by the movie reviewers, like Ebert! I'm finding it's getting more and more repetitive, anyways, this movie I thought was really good! Just by looking at the trailer I knew it would be good, and it hints you that Ja Rule plays the bad guy, well, that's what I thought anyway, but, I was WRONG! Ja Rule is a prisoner of alcatraz joined by FBI Agent faking being prisoner/criminal(Seagel), just wanting to be Ja Rule's friend to find out information on what happened to Seagel's wife. Morris Chestnut plays the bad guy in the movie, him and his team breakin into alcatraz and start killing guards in demand of ransom. Sounds like The Rock(Cage, Connery, Harris) Well, turns out for much different reasons and the way it's connected is much different! Plus, this is the new alcatraz, if you didn't catch that in the trailer, with an excecution chair! It's a cool movie, really well done by the actors, Ja Rule finally learned to not swear every line, he doesn't swear half as much in this movie as in Turn It Up, but it was meant like that for Turn It Up, anyways, both movies are good and I suggest to anyone to look at this great movie!

Summary: Don't Bother!
Review: If i could give this movie 0 stars i would. Sadly i went to see this in the movies, and i wanted to get up an walk out, and that was the vibe i was getting from everyone else in the theatre. Seagal hardly fights in this, Ja Rule is one the worst rapper turned actors i've seen, the fight scenes are sloppy and look thrown together. The whole premise to the movie is [bad], and tired. As i said before, don't bother.

Summary: A Shame
Review: it's a shame that ja rule is in this movie cause this movie would be the best action movie ever but ja rule ruins it. He's a terrible actor and HIS VOICE IS SOOOOOO ANNOYING! Steven segal is cool but he's gotta lose some weight. He wears long trench coats to hide his stomach. That's all i gotta say about this movie.

Summary: Half Past Something.
Review: Looking back, Steven Seagal has never really made a great movie, but we like him anyway. Or, maybe after all this time we want to like him anyway. But that doesn't help you figure out whether or not to put this DVD in your shopping cart . . .

If you thought you missed this film at the theatre, you didn't. If you thought Mr. Seagal was "back" because "Exit Wounds" was a good action flick, well - he's not.

The story is choppy . . . and I say that knowing that the story is not the priority of an action film. I mean you will find yourself once or twice going "what the hell?" And if the story (dare I say "plot") that doesn't need to be the real highlight in a Steven Seagal-action film is so out of sorts that you actually find yourself stopping to ponder what it going on, you know two things have happened - (1) there is no story, there is no stream of consciousness that you can follow to even figure why or what reason there is for anything to be coming together, because it is not and (2) there is NOT enough action.

There is not enough Seagal. If you want to run the risk and pick up the DVD because you are a die hard Seagal fan, he looks horrible, tired and puffy in it, and he's phoning it in ala Tommy Lee Jones in "Batman Forever." Remember how it seemed Mr. Jones knew Jim Carrey would steal the show, so he was just along for the ride? It seems like Mr. Seagal is just along for the ride in this film as well. I am hard-pressed to recall any major action scenes around him.

By the way . . .if you were a fan of "Fame" and want to see what happened to Nia Pepples, pick it up. I was surprised to see her in the flick, and she was good. Morris Chestnut was good, as well.

WARNING:
But here's a SPOILER if you dare to read on . . . you know how in most of these types of films, Steven Seagal will have some final one-on-one with the big bad and hand him back his a$$? Well, it's not going to happen in this film. As I said - hard-pressed to recall major action with Mr. Seagal - but he does jump out of a plane.

Hey - he is playing a Russian this time. I don't think he's done that yet.

Summary: Very realistic -- NOT!
Review: Not his best. Bad story and poor acting. I understand why it was a box office bust.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Annoying
Review: Now I understand why the critics did not think much of this film when it was released. "Half Past Dead" basically tells the story of the "new Alcatraz" in which one of the prisoners, who hides a secret worth millions, is going to be executed. Seems like a pretty decent storyline until the action starts happening. Morris Chestnut's and Nia Peeple's characters hold the prison hostage (as well as some very important figures there to witness the execution) hoping to get the very valuable secret out of the prisoner. Steven Seagal plays an undercover FBI agent who must fix the situation promptly with his bad acting a guns. Ja Rule makes an appearance as a prisoner as well as Seagal's unaware best friend. Ja basically gets thrown around the entire movie and his trying to look and be as hard as possible becomes very annoying early on in the film.

I personally wouldn't recommend this film since there are so many other good action films out there, but I'm sure action buffs will probably enjoy this one.

Summary: wooden Seagal and annoying Ja Rule make this a crapheap
Review: oh boy, where to begin. Seagal is send to prison undercover and then Morris Chestnut breaks in and they want some money or something, I dont know I got lost in the beginning and then sorta fell asleep for 20 minutes, woke up and then fell asleep again when a stupid action scene came on or the ever so girly running Seagal started to fight. man, Seagal's movies have gotten way crappy all of a sudden. you had The Patriot, The Glimmer Man, Exit Wounds, The Foreinger, I mean come on man, do some drama or something, forget this crap. and Ja Rule took a big leap from The Fast and The Furious to this. Seagal even Chestnut has had a better career lately then you man
