Summary: My favortite movie of all time!
Review: This movie fit the rest of the Lethal Weapon series, but I think it was the best of the series. This movie had action and humor, to me that is what every movie should have!

Summary: "Tamed" Weapon 4
Review: There really is no use for the word "Lethal" in the title. Riggs, sinking into psychotic dillusionment over the death of his wife in the original, is now raising a family, never frowning, getting married. Boring. The original was groundbreaking and fantastic because there were two very unlikely partners: a down-to-earth family man (Murtagh), and a mentally disturbed, sociopathic whackjob who thinks about eating a bullet every second of his life (Riggs). Now, here are Lethal 4's very unlikely partners: a down-to-earth family man (Murtagh), and a down-to-earth family man (Riggs).

All the characters have been destroyed with this awful film. Joe Pesci as Leo Getz, once funny, is now an utterly disgusting, foul-mouthed, useless character. Rene Russo as Sgt. Cole, once an awesome, kung-fu fighting superchick, is now a pregnant old bag who's main goal in the film is to talk to Riggs and act hungry. Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs, I already told you about. Luckily, Murtagh and his family are still unmangled by Channing Gibson's writing.

The plot, what there is of it, is some Nice Asians are being smuggled in on a boat, and Murtagh steals some. Some Mean Asians who want to free some more Mean Asians from prison, want the Nice Asians back, so they try to kill Riggs and Murtagh.

That's about it. If you take away all the Family Matters inspired drivel that pads the story, you'll find that all it is is a movie that got made because it has the name of an excellent franchise in the title.

There are some good things. A conversation with Riggs and Getz over the phone in the same room is very funny, and there's some okay car chases, gun fights, explosions, etc. Also Walter Chang and Richard Donner keep things moving. And the fight with Jet Li at the end isn't all that bad.

Very little kids will like this inoffensive, quiet little cartoon, but for everyone else, watch the first three and stop there.

Summary: "Ah c'mon, Rog! We're not to old for this!"
Review: Movie #4 has really great kicks to it! This time, Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) take on a very evil chinese crime lord (Jet Li), and face some domestic crises where Riggs and Cole (Rene Russo) are gonna have a baby and Murtaugh's just learned he's going to be a grandfather for the first time! When you kick this story up a notch with the comic greats of Joe Pesci and Chris Rock, you come out with another great entry in the series! It's really a shame that this movie is rumored to be the last in the series! I personally would love to see the boys come back for another round!

Summary: Even Jet Li can't save this one.
Review: This one they did for the money. The idea ran out of gas after the first sequel was released and has been trading on the same tired themes since: Mel Gibson gets to be cute, Danny Glover gets to be righteous, and Joe Pesci gets to be...well, Joe Pesci. Richard Donner knew that more distractions would be needed to keep viewers interested when people weren't get shot or blown up, so Chris Rock was also added to the mix, but as cool as he is, his performance is wasted (though the dialogue he has with Pesci regarding cell phones, a recycling of his tirade "THEY ... YOU AT THE DRIVE-THRU" from "Lethal Weapon 2" isn't bad). Really, the best part of this movie is Jet Li. Like most Americans, I'd never seen him in anything before this movie (although I've since remedied that). He is truly a revelation, and I found myself wishing he were in more scenes (I also found myself wishing he'd kick Mel's ..., which is unusual since I generally like Mel Gibson's work...but not in this). Rent it out of curosity (as I did) if you must, and by all means rewind the fight sequences involving Jet Li, but unless you're really missing movies starring Brian Bosworth, I'd find it hard to recommend this.

Summary: Ya Have To See This!!
Review: Lethal Weapon 4 is a exellent movie. I has action comedy and suspense. I mean, the dentist part is dumb but we have to put up with it. It has a few bad parts with a lot of "trash mouth"'language, but u just have to ignore it....Get the DVD, it's worth it!!!!

Summary: Best Of The Series
Review: What makes one movie enjoyable to watch and another unbearable? A reviewer compared this movie to Armageddon and I can see that in a way, but where I thought Armageddon was one of the worst films ever made I watch this film over and over. Maybe it's the chemistry of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover or Gibson and Rene Russo, or any of the other characters. There is a looseness and friendliness that flows through the movie that's like watching old friends, which is carried over into the clever titles at the end. As a great reggae version of "Why Can't We Be Friends" plays the credits flash over photos of the cast and crew.

It doesn't hurt that Richard Donner is a better director than Michael Bay although I find his placement of anti-gun posters in the police station and jibes at the NRA incredibly hypocritical given the level of gun play here.

Discussing plot and character developement is a little pointless in most films like this but there are small touches that add to the story. I liked Riggs's hesitation to replace his former wife and the source of Murtaugh's extra cash is pretty humorous. Chris Rock is a great addition. He fits in well with the ad lib atmosphere. Jet Li is also a great addition. He plays an intense, mean character and radiates power and intensity when he glowers at Riggs. He's very graceful, so much so you almost believe he can dodge bullets like he does in the climax.

I was hesitant to see this movie when it came out in the theaters, I was getting tired of this series, number three didn't really register with me but I ended up loving this one. It's as good a mindless action movie as you're likely to see.

Summary: Action pornography
Review: I waited years before finally renting this video because I knew that it was going to be bad. In fact, I got it for free because I rented a new release at the same time. I was fully prepared for the badness of the movie, friends had told me, "It's bad, but Jet Li is really cool."

Strangely enough, I was still surprised at how awful the movie was. The reason that I call this movie action pornography is because every scene is contrived to show action. There's almost no pretence at a real plot, it's just action scene after action scene with some veneer of story written in as an aside. That sounds like pornography to me with action subsctituted for sex.

All of the jokes have been done before, even in the last few Lethal Weapons movies. They're funny but I heard that in the last movie.

If you liked this movie, you might want to take a look at Armageddon, it's about in the same quality category.

Summary: Lethal Fun
Review: Lethal Weapon 4 is an improvement over the third film but just barely. The tone is a lot like "Lethal 2", funny, fast paced and a lot of danger and action with an interesting villian. What isn't an improvement is the lack of story and character. Here Mel Gibson isn't playing Riggs, he's playing Mel Gibson.

It's a fun installment but I hope it ends here.

Summary: It's a good movie.
Review: If you're a LW fan, this movie rocks. Lotsa comedy and action. The crazy stunts and car chases are all back and better than before. Unfortunately, you don't get to see Jet Li that much, who is a wicked cool villian. He kicks boo-ty. A great movie, A great DVD
