Summary: A Must Buy for Costner fans!
Review: No Way Out is Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman at their bests. This action-packed movie has everything from romance to espionage. Kevin Costner is a naval officer who ties himself up into a world of trouble as he discovers his mistress is the same as the Secretary of Defense.The ending is truly explosive as both Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman, along with a great supporting cast, truly make this movie a must see.

Review: Often, a film is compared to "No Way Out"--it's a gold standard of political thrillers. Made in the 80's, it holds up well in its genre. Now it's on DVD (without many "extras"--just the release trailers) and that's worthwhile if you are a political thriller fan.Gene Hackman does his usual excellent job as a power-monger Secretary of Defense. He plays it subdued with restrained violence; you know this is a man capable of nearly anything. Will Patton is stunning as the bootlicking lackey, and Costner is reasonably good as the hapless pawn (?) of the Secretary's machinations. Sean Young plays a nervy, Washington bimbo. She's annoying, but actually, that seems to be part of the character and I thought she was superbly cast. The horror of the 80's overly-ornate costuming and gaudy makeup are the only hint of the age of this film. The story is laden with clues dropped in a seemingly meaningless way and the tension builds superbly, racheting suddenly with a surprise in the action. At the end, another surprise is delicious, especially if you picked up all the red herrings (I didn't. Maybe you will.) If you love political or espionage thrillers, this one has a great payoff.

Summary: One of the most overlooked film in movie history
Review: The plot to this movie is one of the most intricate plots ever thought up. It is exciting and convoluted - and yet no one has heard of it. The beginning is a bit slow, but the middle (and especially the end) are amazing. For those of you who like Usual Suspects and Mission Impossible, this is even better.

Summary: The Talents of Hackman and Patton Are Wasted
Review: The strong performances by Gene Hackman and and Will Patton are even more impressive when contrasted with Kevin Costner's who seems either totally bewildered or under heavy sedation. The plot is implausible. Much of the dialogue is clunky, at times ludicrous. However, director Roger Donaldson somehow captures and then sustains our interest after an unnecessarily slow start. Will the cover-up to protect Secretary of Defense David Brice (Hackman) succeed? To whom does Tom Farrell (Costner) ultimately report? To what extent (if any) will the C.I.A. become involved? Dozens of other actors would have been more effective as Farrell. Perhaps Donaldson and the screenwriters should share the blame with Costner for his tepid performance. At no point do I care what happens to him. Not so with Brice and Scott Pritchard (Patton). This film offers pleasant entertainment which, unlike Seven Days in May and Three Days of the Condor, requires no intellectual engagement.

Review: This is a must see for any suspense lover. A great plot, with a twist that will keep you guessing. Costner and Young also have one of the sexiest love scenes ever in this film. Costner fans need a copy of this one for their video library!

Summary: A Real Inteligent Thriller
Review: This is a powerful film filled with high tension and intrigue that is done quite well better than most in the genre. And by no means whatsoever is Kevin Costner one of my faverite actors and to me most of his films are dull and boring except for this one and THE UNTOUCHABLES. But i must admit he pulled off a credible performance as a naval hero who takes on a Pentagon job and lands in hot water when he is entagled in a murder conspiracy involving his boss(played rather subdued by Gene Hackman)and by untalented actress Sean Young who is so annyoning in this film i was actually glad she got knocked off in the first half hour of the film in the tradinatonl Hollywood style. Terrifc on foot chases thougout the offices of the Pentagon to the streets of Washington D.C when Costner was being pursued by secret service agents. A great story backed by decent performaces make this story about an innocent man caught in a complex web of romance,murder, and corruption a sight to see But the surprise ending was unexpected and was out of step with the entire film.

Summary: SUSPENSEFULLY SATISFYING
Review: This is Kevin Costner at his best in the pre-ego choked days. Before pictures like Waterworld, The Postman or For Love of the Game dominated. No Way Out is a well-acted, well-scripted film with Costner at the heart of a scandal involving high-level government officials. The picture itself has suspense and a story that grips you. You also get a bit of a surprise ending. Always engaging Gene Hackman is the villain here with his evil sidekick assistant played well by Will Patton (the scene when he blows his brains out is both graphic and revealing). However, there is one drawback to this film: Sean Young. She is annoying, obnoxious, and I fail to see how anyone could fall in love with her, let alone be attracted to her. This made one whole storyline of the film lack credibility, and ultimately the story falls apart unless you are sufficiently convinced that Costner could fall in love with Young's character... or indeed that Hackman's character could be equally bewitched with her. Some details of the plot are improbable unless you believe the authenticity of these relationships. Sean Young is far too hollow... and cheap-seeming to be believable. I recently read an interview with her regarding her supposed comeback (she has spent a significant number of years having a family and meditating in the Sedona, AZ desert). She seems more balanced than she was when her career suddenly plummeted, but despite mellowing out, I am not impressed with what I have seen of her. I guess if she does make this comeback it will be time to revisit her talents.

Summary: A fast paced suspense with a twist
Review: This is one of Kevin Costner's earlier performances that was almost overlooked. It is a story that grabs you from the beginning and takes you on a roller coaster thrill ride. Remembered probably more for the limo scene than anything else, it is a must see for gut-wrenching suspense. The audience is held spell-bound as the plot unwounds to reveal an intricate web surrounding all characters involved. If you haven't seen it yet, run, don't walk to your local video store.
