Summary: Unique Adventure Film
Review: Amazon.com's editorial review captures the film well. I just wanted to comment that this film provides a unique version of its earlier inspiration "Wages of Fear." The film starts with the previous events on the story's four characters, showing their reasons for why they are in a third world country when the adventure takes place. "Sorcerer" varies a little from "Wages of Fear" with some different obstacles faced by the men in their journey to deliver the unstable and dangerous cargo. However, the musical score by Tangerine Dream adds an effective and eerie atmosphere to the setting.

The ending in "Sorcerer" is better than the earlier version. I also have "Wages of Fear" on DVD and I enjoy both films despite them having the same storyline.

Summary: it is the drama that turns into the mystical bomb!
Review: he picked the best actors...the perfect locations...and let the story start fragmented only to become so kaukfkaesque...the scenery is breath-taking...the acting so understated...the director had a vision...it wasn't money...and it is on film....dig it and dig the most under-rated actor of all time...check out the mid-east bomb sequence..a lasting image, among so many others..perfect...not for the non-thinker, truly

Summary: Friedkin was mugged
Review: When I originally saw this at the theatres, I was unaware of the contoversy surrounding its release. I wasn't even aware it was a remake of an earlier film "The Wages of Fear." Critics were up in arms that some one would dare attempt a remake of such a classic. Well...I'm glad I viewed this with no preconceptions, because it totally entranced me. As you meet each of the four protagonists in the beginning, you are a bit confused as to what these four men might have in common, but when they all end up in the same South American Hell-Hole with one slim chance at redemption, you realize the bond that only they can share. The story, the cinematography, the editing (the bridge scene should be used as an example in film schools) are all top shelf. This is one of the singly most intense films ever made. So much so, I saw it at the theatre several times. At one outing I brought my folks, and during the bridge scene, my father leaned over and asked how I could possibly subject myself to this more than once. It's THAT intense. This is a must see film. I have sinse seen the original, and as much as I like it, Sorcerer stands well enough on its own. By the way, see if you can figure out where the title comes from.

Summary: Incredible and gripping!
Review: This movie is absolutely incredible! I was totally captivated from start to finish! The bridge scene has to be one of the classics of modern cinema!

Summary: Great thriller, a Spielbergesque action movie.
Review: From the opening sequences, you'll find this movie loaded with action in probably the seemiest place on earth. It's the perfects setting for 4 down and out escapees from society to meet one another in an effort to save the profits of the oil company.

Summary: gut-churning suspense
Review: A largely unknown film...with little success at the box office. I rediscovered this film recently, having first seen it while in graduate school. Now knowing the context for this film, and having recently seen the original film, The Wages of Fear, of which this film is a remake, I feel that Sorcerer is an improvement on the original film (this is not the case for many remakes).

Gritty and bleak, with enough excitement for several action/adventure films, it is (like The Wages of Fear) a film with an uncompromisingly brutal ending. Excellent acting, gut-churning suspense...what a great film. Great music, too.

Summary: Overlooked classic with great performance by Roy Scheider
Review: A remake of the Wages of Fear, this film bombed at the box office, but is a great movie. Roy Scheider is perfect as an American gangster on the run from the mob, who finds himself in a hell on earth with other criminals from around the world. The international cast and foreign locations help make this a compelling film. Director Friedkin reportedly wanted Steve McQueen for the lead, but Scheider delivers. Remember, if you have to get out of the country, get a train down to Baltimore and at Customs, ask for Nat Glick.

Summary: This is a great movie, interesting from start to finish
Review: Great plot, great actors and great suspense. They just don't get any better than this.

Summary: A chilling jungle thriller
Review: I am not the movie afficienado that some reviewers obviously are, but do love a thrilling movie that A) grabs you and B) holds you. This is the movie makers art, to reach into the viewer and affect them. This, William Friedkin did with brio in "Sorcerer". Also, Roy Sheider adds luster to his impressive career with this unconventional film. The impact of this film will startle you. Maltin is in the tank on this one.

Summary: The most underrated suspence thriller!!!!
Review: Not only was the film deep, and insightfull to the inner soul of a human being in the situation of, in a desperate attempt to be free of the self made prison of these four criminals. To drive accross trecherous terrain of primevel forests of South America in trucks loaded with dynamite so unstable with the nitro leaking from the sticks of death. one wrong move and BOOM! The music was absolutely incredible. Tangerine Dream did a soundtrack that scared the **** out of me!! Don't forget, all this was brought to us in 1977! I was very young and left an impression in my brain! This movie is the prime spark for me getting into Digital Synth Music. All actors were intense and suffered much for the shooting of this film! A MUST GET for armrest gripping viewing!
