Summary: Too dark for some, But the best of the bunch, I say
Review: I like the works of Tim Burton and this one is more like his other movies (Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Nightmare before Christmas) as far as dark content goes. What grabs me first is the music. On average, Elfman writes butifully dark themes for specific characters in Burton movies (Scissorhands had his theme, as did Betelguese and Skellington). The somewhat lamenting Catwoman theme makes you feel kind of sorry for her. The Penguin theme is also lamenting, but instead of feeling sorry for him, you realize that this is a rightfully demented being who's not what he says he is. I would also say that Danny DeVito was the best available choice for the role of Penguin. He was delightfully gross. Rent this first, just to see if it's for you. If you were as impressed as I was, then buy it. Be sure to look for a cameo appearence by Paul Rubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) as Penguin's dad in the Prologue.

Summary: The Dark Knight RETURNS...
Review: "Batman Returns" is the sequel to the blockbuster "Batman". Though not as good as the first one, it is still highly entertaining, dark, and gothic. This movie takes place during Christmas time so Gotham is covered with snow... scenes of the city scape at night looked dreary and mysterious, which I really liked, because this is how Gotham suppose to look like. Tim Burton did an excellent job in setting the mood with the gloomy back-drop. In this second installment in the Batman movie series Penguin(Danny Devito), and Catwoman(Michelle Pfeiffer) team up to destroy the Dark Knight(Michael Keaton). Michael Keaton like the first movie, played Batman/Bruce Wayne very well. Danny Devito really made the Penguin seem scary, which is what I expected. Michelle Pfeifer really made Catwoman very 'yummy', no complaints here. In other words, their depictions of these comic book characters worked really well. I'm saddened to say that this is the last gothic Batman movie in the series, the other two, "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin", doesn't live up to my expectations for a Batman movie. I hope if they make another Batman movie, which I doubt after seeing "Batman and Robin", they would hire Tim Burton and Michael Keaton again... This movie and the first one are adult oriented, so it should be viewed mostly by mature audiences, unless you are a die hard Batman fan like I was. Anyway watch "Batman Returns" it's a cool movie.

Review: Gotham City faces two monstrous criminal menaces: the bizarre, sinister Penguin (Danny DeVito) and the slinky, mysterious Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). Can Batman (Michael Keaton) battle two formidable foes at once? Especially when one wants to be mayor and the other is romantically attracted to Gotham's hero? Like the Academy Award-winning 1989 original, Batman Returns is directed by moviemaking wizard Tim Burton. And like the first blockbuster, it's a dazzling adventure that leaves you breathless.

Summary: A fun and superior sequel to Batman!
Review: Batman Returns is such a fun movie. Its dark, dismal, and cold look is perfect. Michael Keaton will always be the best Batman! This sequel to 1989's Batman is much better and although they both are dark, they are the same as well as different. Batman Returns features an all star cast headed by Keaton and featuring Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Danny DeVito as the Penguin, and Christopher Walken as the shreud Gotham buisness man Max Schrek. The film tells the story of a crime ridden Gotham City around Christmas time. The Penguin who lives beneath Gotham in the sewers wants to emerge and become part of the world. Schrek is forced to help Penguin emerge and become popular. Selina Kyle is a secretary who works for Schrek. After an accident she is borught back to life by cats and becomes Catwoman, yet still uses her alter ego Selina. Selina and Bruce(Wayne) become friends in their normal lives but rivals in their alter egos, Batman and Catwoman. Batman must protect Gotham from these menacing enemies! Filled with lots of action and drama. Its a great movie! The directing, acting, and dark production design of Gotham at Christmas is excellent. The only problem with the movie is that too much is squeezed into 2 hours of film. 2 or even possibly 3 movies could be made from all the material that is thrown at us in this movie. We are overwhelmed with more than enough villians which causes too few appearances by our hero. Other than that its a good movie, the best in the series. People who are not a fan of dark looking movies, which this movie has been critizied for being too dramatic would probably like the not so dark Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, although I only would reccomend Forever. I only wish we could have Burton and Keaton do one more like this! Rated PG-13 for violence, sexual innuendo, a brief sexual scene, dramatic intensity, and mild profanity.

Summary: I changed my view on Batman Returns upon viewing again!
Review: I wrote in my reviews for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin,that I liked those two films better than Batman Returns.I said that having seen those two films recently,and not having seen Batman Returns for several years.Well,I just watched Batman Returns,again.Wow!I'll admit I was very wrong on that one!I't's much better than the two Schumacher films(I'll admit I still like the two Schumacher Batmans,though)Batman Returns has a very exciting plot,and next to The Joker,the two best villains,Catwoman and The Penguin,played wonderfully by Michelle Pfeiffer(wow,she looks good as both Catwoman and Selina Kyle) and Danny DeVito.Actually in my opinion,though,the most diabolical person in the movie was Max Shreck,a greedy tycoon,played perfectly by Christopher Walken.Of course Michael Keaton is outstanding as Bruce Wayne/Batman,although he takes somewhat of a backseat to the villains.He's still the best Batman,although I thought Val Kilmer was very good,too.I thought the set design in this film was fantastic,the cinematography very good,and Danny Elfman's musical score was excellent,and much better than the Elliot Goldenthal scores for the Schumacher films.Overall,it's a great movie,and a fantastic sequal to the first Batman.

Summary: Very welcome.
Review: Compared to 'Batman' this film feels a lot closer to Tim Burton's favoured style, darker in atmosphere, less commercial and deeper. Here he has been let loose with the source material and turn it into his own. Purist Batman fans will doubtlessly be outraged as Burton changes the histories and personalities of the two main villains, Catwoman and the Penguin, but - since I'm not a Batman fan - this is probably the only 'blockbuster' that I really like. This is due the changes Burton has made, making the Penguin a character to empathise with, his cruelty arising from the cruelty he has suffered himself and Catwoman a lonely, geeky secretary before her transformation. This is an action film with a dark core, where the line between good and evil is fuzzy, the protagonist is brooding and emotionally stilted and there is no happy ending. There are good performances all round, the grossly sympathetic Penguin played without vanity by Danny DeVito, likewise Michelle Pfeiffer's frumpy secretary / sizzling Catwoman and Christopher Walken, perfect as the 'respectable' power greedy psycho Max Schreck, all overshadowing the slightly inferior Michael Keaton as Batman, though I think this is200 only because he has the least interesting part in the film. The thing that lets this otherwise flawless film down is the script. Mostly it is more than adequate, but occasionally it slaps on clumsy uninspired lines. The extras are insulting. There are cast notes.

Summary: Too dark and a replusive movie
Review: Mainly due to Devito's performance as a repulsive Penquin, and the total absense of any real screen time for Batman (Michael Keaton), the screenplay is incoherent, and all plot lines lead no where. Which seems to be the trend on all DC based movies.Even Christopher Walken (useually a very good actor) seems to be embrassed by being in this film. His performance is wooden and dull.

Review: BATMAN RETURNS is my favourite Batman movie in the series, but I know lots of people think this is the worst one. I don't care, I just love this movie. The Gotham City in Batman Returns is the most beautiful of the series, I would like to live in. And Keaton's performance is the better than last one. In face, he is the best actor who can act Batman perfectly. Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer are also done the terrific job, but Christopher Walken's Max Shreck is the most wonderful villian of the movie. well done! Danny Elfman's music is just the best. Tim Burton, we thank you. Thanks for give us just a beautiful and darkful Batman movie!

Summary: Batman Returns
Review: A fine sequel to Batman. Tim Burton is again brilliant. The villains are really good this time, like last time. Michael Keaton is again mediocre, but Michael Gough was very good as Alfred the butler. Again though, like Batman(1989), the villains steal the show. Catwoman(Michelle Pffiefer) is an often overlooked character. She has her moments, but she is only that good, Danny DeVito is simply WONDERFUL as Penguin, the sewer man. His mad revenge is rather interesting. DeVito will never get a better role. Christopher Walken, an actor who I admire, was also WONDEFUL as Max Shreck, the penguin's handler. Once Penguin was out of favor, Shreck was still there. He killed Pffiefer in a great moment. I was dissapointed when he died.
