Summary: A very suspensful movie!
Review: I personally was told that this was supposed to be a bad movie. Then I saw a documentary on the Discovery Chanel, "Behind Enemy Lines." Then I immidiatly thought, well, it can't be THAT bad if it's based on a true story. So I went to the movie, and it was a hit in my book! First of all, any movie that is based on a true story and is given to Hollywood to play with is usually great.

I personally think Owen Wilson is very funny, and I have never seen him play a more serious role like this. I thought he did a great job at being serious and funny when it was needed. Owen plays as an officer/pilot in the Navy. He has served 7 years so far and is completly bored. So naturally he wants to get out of the service, and seek something a little more exciting. I also like Gene Hackman in his role as the Admiral. He always (in my book) plays a great leader. He has been an admirable soldier in his long time career in the Navy, with many awards and medals. He is very disciplined and doesn't like it how Owen doesn't take it (the Navy) seriously. So he is harder on him than anyone else. Also, the supporting actors are perfectly picked for their roles in this military movie.

When Owen and his Pilot fly a routine flight, they see some activity, and check it out. At the time, there shouldn't be any activity, because of a peace treaty taking affect. So the enemy spots them, and fearful that someone will find out that they are not following the rules of the treaty, they shoot Owen's F-18 Hornet down. His pilot/friend gets captured by the enemy, and he's left running. While he's running, so many things keep him going. 1.The hope that he is going to get rescued. 2. The enemy firing at him. 3.Trying to get proof that shows the enemy's activities.

I would recommend this movie to anyone! It is full of action, emotions, and things that SHOULD be in a movie! So, ENJOY!

Summary: Exciting and action Packed - one woman's view *
Review: We enjoyed this movie very much. Great shots of the Air Craft Carrier and even better filming of the F-18, performing evasive moves in an attempt to deter a hit by heat seeking missiles. With the back drop of snow covered mountains, watching that beautiful F-18 on the big screen was my favorite part! What a piece of machinery!
The whole movie keeps you going from start to finish. Don't wait for video for this one. It is a must for the big screen!
My husband picked the movie - but I also enjoyed it very much!

Summary: Great Action Packed Movie of the Year
Review: This is a great action movie along the lines of Saving Private Ryan and Three Kings. The camera angles are so cool that when it comes to shacking it feels like you are in war with this actor. Go see it , it is the best action movie of the year.

Summary: Suspenseful from beginning to end
Review: I wasn't expecting this movie to be as good as it was. It's a thrill-packed ride from the beginning to the end, as Wilson tries to evade seemingly every bad guy in Serbia, and with fine performances from actors whose talents haven't been show-cased enough yet.

A great part for Owen Wilson, and also Joaquim de Almeida, who plays the NATO admiral and Hackman's nemesis, turns in a notable performance. Almeida also played the bad-guy Colombian drug lord across from Antonio Banderas in Desperado. Wilson and Jackie Chan made a great comic team in Shanghai Noon, so if you liked Wilson in this movie, check out Shanghai Noon to see what he can do with a lighter comic role. Chan and Wilson obviously enjoyed playing across from each other in this movie.

Summary: A PATRIOTIC ACTION MOVIE, NO MORE NO LESS!!
Review: If Gene Hackman hadn't been in this movie, I doubt I would have seen it-letting this movie slip thru the scenematic cracks. But, alas, it wasn't a real bummer. Put together for our patriotic fervor of the times. Action scenes were good, and I am continually impressed with Owen Wilson. He really got a workout in this flick, I don't think there are too many scenes where he is not running and dodging bullets.

Some reviewers pooh poohed it as 'too unrealistic' and I say what war is not unrealistic.

It is the Bosnia conflict and Wilson and his pilot have strayed into forbidden fly-over zone, they see something and decide to get some movies. The Serbs below shoot the plane down. And thus begins the horrowing story of Wilson, trying to get to a point where he can be picked-up.

Not knowing he has become a pawn in the scheme and deceit, the Serbs are playing against Nato, and the U.S.A.

Except for a few unbelievable scenes, the story goes well>
Gene Hackman does what he does best and that is playing a General torn between duty and saving the pilot he has put in harms way. I give this movie *** stars. ciao yaaah69

Summary: Action-packed on the edge of your seat!
Review: A gotta see action-packed movie from start to finish! An accurate depiction and portrayal of what went on in Boznia, and how a 7 year Navy Aviator with 2 weeks left in service handles the enemy on their own turf with no help from NATO and finally a little help from his 2-star. Daring rescue, with many attempts, and non-stop action makes this a 5-star in my book. Not to give anything away, he decides to stay another 4 years!

Summary: For all war movie fans, PASS ON THIS ONE.
Review: Extremely unrealistic. Who is after him?? We never do find out. But they are all shooting at Owen Wilson who never takes a single bullet. Also, Gene Hackman actually gives up his long military career over this-NEVER.

Please Hollywood give us credit.

Summary: Style over substance, with ludicrous situations.
Review: "Behind Enemy Lines" isn't so much a movie about a soldier trapped in dangerous territory as it is about a director spicing up a second-rate war thriller with technical wizardry and grandiose special effects. The cast is watchable at times, as are the intense images of war-torn Bosnia contrasted with images of striking beauty, but the situations are handled in the wrongs ways, and the actions taken by the characters are ludicrous.

The movie opens with news of a treaty that will bring peace to Bosnia, where NATO has begun to withdraw its troops from certain areas while keeping watch on others; the cause of the war, the devastation of it, as well as the treaty itself, never are explained. We are introduced to Burnett (Owen Wilson), a somewhat cocky lieutenant who feels that there is no grounds for U.S. involvement, putting in his resignation to his commanding officer, Reigart (Gene Hackman). Reigart, tired of Burnett's countless shenanigans, dismisses him from service upon their return home, but not before scheduling his flight crew for one last reconnaissance mission on Christmas Day.

During their recon flight, Burnett notices activity outside of their mission zone, yet flies off course to investigate, despite the protestations of his copilot, Stackhouse (Gabriel Macht). As it happens, they come across something not meant to be seen, are shot down from the sky, and find themselves in the danger zone without a clear way out.

It is here that the movie begins to make many noticeable and frustrating mistakes. After the crash, Burnett walks into an open clearing, yelling out to Stackhouse, whom he then leaves in the middle of that clearing to climb a hill in order to radio the carrier for help. I'm not a military expert, but anyone with enough common sense knows that these actions are life-threatening as well as being utterly stupid. As Stackhouse is shot (not before stating that he was alone on the mission), Burnett shouts in fright, giving away his position on the hill.

That's not all this guy does: throughout the movie we will see him on the tops of mountains, in plain view of possible snipers and enemy bombers, running through the woods without stopping to look back or even jump from hiding place to hiding place for safety, and walking through an abandoned town where an intricate system of mines has been set up. During all of this, he gives a few glances here and there, but doesn't appear to be looking for enemy soldiers or the possibility of danger. This lack of a realistic approach to a highly volatile situation spells out the movie's downfall, a slow descent into war movie cliché and bogus patriotism.

Director John Moore, a TV commercial director who takes his first big step into Hollywood, seems more interested in giving the movie a visual style and sleek appeal rather than supplying it with credible tension or believable plot. From sharp, quick-cut editing, a hard-edge soundtrack, and color tones that accentuate the harshness of the landscape, the cinematography ranks right up there with that of "Saving Private Ryan," yet there's no emotion to it: it's merely there just to be. As he moves his character to different set pieces, we are bombarded with a striking display of convincing visual effects, loud explosions, and rousing action that would have more meaning if there were something behind it.

This is a classic case of a bad movie happening to a good cast, though I have to wonder if Wilson ever really considered just how implausible his character's actions really are. Hackman delivers worn-out war dialogue in a pleasing fashion, and the Bosnian soldiers and snipers are effectively chilling. But when all is said and done, blown up and shot at, "Behind Enemy Lines" is all style and little substance, and sinks under its own stupidity.

Summary: If you like mindless action....
Review: If you like mindless action, you will love this movie. I somewhat enjoyed it, because it was exactly what I expected. Although, the camera angles made me dizzy at times. Just don't expect much realism. I still don't understand these directors/writers. Anyone with half a brain knows that an Admiral would NOT leave his ship to join a rescue mission in a hostile area. Also, no Navy pilot would EVER disobey orders and fly into a dangerous "no-fly" zone to take pictures. NEVER! They court-martial people for little infractions like that. Owen Wilson's character must have flunked out of Air Force Pilot survival school. He walks around in the wide open most of the time. Then in one scene, he takes off his hood and turns around before he is out of sight of the enemy troops. Like we didn't know it was him. That was just complete nonsense. And those Serbs that were persuing the pilot had to be the worst shots in the history of warfare. You know, you can make an entertaining movie without being just plain stupid. How come these movie directors can't figure that out?

Summary: Worthwhile Night at the Movies
Review: Since the story behind this movie has been detailed so much at this venue - I would just like to add the following comments. In this day and age of troubles throughtout the world, this movie really hits the mark with regards to possible (probable) behind the "treaties" going-ons. Good action throughout and Owen Wilson puts forth a great performance. Some of the scenes are "Bat 21" (also with Hackman - get the video it's great) meets "Enemy of the State" (gee - also with Hackman - see this one also). Time and money well spent if you plan to see "Behind Enemy Lines".
