Summary: Visually stunning, but a bit too contrived
Review: I liked this move. I liked it a lot, in fact. But I can't quite give it 5 stars because a fair chunk of it is just a bit too much like a giant, over-wrought video game. The setup is nice; the opening scenes in idyllic Hobbiton (or whatever it's called) are truly magical. And the conflict between Good and Evil is nicely delineated, both visually and in terms of the characters; Ian McKellen and Christoper Lee are perfect in their roles. But the endless trek through peril after peril that takes place in the second half of the movie eventually becomes tiresome. I mean, we KNOW that Our Heroes are going to make it through to Mordor (at least, most of them) and by the middle of the third hour, my butt was aching and my eyes were tired! Don't get me wrong; this is a good movie, in some ways maybe even a great movie ... but it's not quite as good as most of the nearly 2000 other reviews here would have you believe!

Summary: One Teriffic movie!
Review: I liked this movie overall, but would like to point out some parts that were my favorites.

My favorite part of this movie was the battle between the orcs and the Fellowship. Aragorn and Boramir wielded the sword phenomenally, Legolas used the bow and arrow like he had practiced all his life, and Gimli was an astounding axman! I liked when Legolas stuck one of the orcs with an arrow during the battle. Eventually, Boramir is struck down with arrows from the commander of the orc army (how could anyone take three arrows?). Aragorn sees Boramir just before the orc commander drives a fourth arrow into him. Somehow, the commander notices that Aragorn is watching, and the best sword-fighting in the movie ensues. The commander orc throws his sword at Aragorn, which Aragorn bats away. Eventually, Aragorn lops off the head of his opponent.

Other great scenes in this movie are the scenery in Rivendell. The scenery in the whole movie is outstanding, but even more so in Rivendell.

I liked the scene in which Arwen is escaping the Ringwraiths, as well. In this chase, my favorite part occurs when Arwen calls on the riverwater to cover the Ringwraiths.

If you like suspenseful movies, movies that keep you at the edge of your seat, I recommend you watch this movie.

Summary: Fault is acceptable, in good taste
Review: I liked this movie, although it was nearly 3 hours the time is well spent. you walk in the theater, sit down, and then you begin a unending journey into the lives of hobbits, elves, dwarves, men, and wizards. Although everything isn't exact I think crunch time prevented every little detail being added. I think that descent work was done. The music is wonderful...the book brought to life is very wonderful.

The Cinematography is awesome. Watching the movie you can actually see certain things so vivid you feel like you are there. Looking up at Orthnac I felt like I was there...everything felt very real. I think that Peter Jackson did a wonderful job and the actors that were chosen very well chosen as well. Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, orlando Bloom (first picture of his I have seen...but still good as Legolas) Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKeallan, and Chirstopher Lee make for a very good line up of actors with a Classic tale of good and evil. Well planned I give it five stars and I think that nothing can compare to it...unless of course there's harry potter...(LOL) *just kidding* But it's cool too....lol

I think anyone who likes Tolkien should see it for nostagias sake even if they don't like it. It's the experience that counts.

Summary: Beyond anyone's spectatives!!!!!
Review: I live in Bolivia and I was standed two hours in order to get my ticket, i got a seat very far from the scenary, but equally i get shocked!!, i am a grat fan of the trilogy, and even when there are some transgretions to the book (Arwen makes the Glorfindel's part in rescueing Frodo, and in the prancey poney tavern there's no song about a man in the moon and a cow, whit frodo dancing) it is a very faithful version, an the estetic aspect of the film COULDN'T BE BETTER, the music is AWESOME, even enya sings in it. Well making it short IS THE BEST FILM I HAD SEE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE (and i had see a lot!!) and i cant wait to next december to see the second part. Oh... I'm in love

Summary: SPECTACULAR!!!!!!
Review: I love everything about this movie. And that says a lot, because I am not the biggest fan of fantasy movies or books. Let it be known, I have not read the books, yet. I have read "The Hobbit" and thought it was a good read, so I hope to read the others. "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" is one of my new favorites, and I enjoyed every minute.

I'm not going to go into great detail of the story. Chances are, you already know it, or at least some of it. What was so great about seeing this movie for the first time and not knowing too much about the story, I was able to watch the story unwrap right before my eyes. I was so suprised and in awe. Let it be known, this movie is almost three hours long. So expect that. But, believe me, if you enjoy the movie, the time flies by so quickly, and you're left wanting more.

Well, since the story is well known by most, this review is mainly going to deal with the DVD itself. It's amazing, despite that it's one I'm going to have to rebuy, since I want the extended version. But someone made a good point, if you love the movie, why not have both. Both DVDs are going to have special features. Ones that appear on this one most likely won't appear on the other. Plus, now you'll have two versions of the movie. So, if you don't want to spend the dough but would very much like to see this movie without having to wait for the extended version to come out, the best soulution is to rent it, or borrow it from someone. (If they let you!)

The picture was outstanding and breathtaking. Just like being at the theatres. It's crystal clear and enhances every little detail that comes about. It is anamorphic widescreen, which made it look that much better.

Sound was pretty good. Very loud. Possibly the loudest DVD I own, and it's not even DTS! My only problem is it is hard to hear the talking at some parts. And just when you turn the volume up to hear it, a very loud action sequence pops out almost deafening your ears. So, I had to fumble with the volume control quite a bit. But, it really did sound great. I just hope that you can hear the talking a little better on the extended version.

There are tons of special features. There's a couple of "making of" programs, (I liked the one that was shown on Fox). There is also a ten minute behind-the-scenes feature on "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.' All I can say is that it's going to be amazing, and I can't wait for it to come out.

I regret watching the behind-the-scenes feature on the extended version of this movie. Why? Because before I watched it, I had it in my mind that I wasn't going to have to resort to re-buying this movie, because it was already a masterpiece in my mind. Well....I watched the feature, and it looks like they left out some REALLY good stuff. Figures! Be warned, if you watch it, you will want to buy the extended version.

I'm sure there are more features I have forgot to mention, but those are the ones I have been able to watch or go through.

"Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" is an awesome epic adventure that really did surprise me. Is it a masterpiece? Maybe not yet. I thought so at first, but now I'm going to have to see the extended version. Maybe the thirty minutes cut out of the movie makes it a lot better. Hard to imagine how this movie can get any better, but it's something I'm anxious to experience and see. This beginning to one hell of an epic is filled with danger, darkness, evil, and adventure. A great movie, destined to be a classic, if not already.

Warning: This goes to the parents who are reading this. Do not be fooled into thinking that this is another Harry Potter movie. This is a very scary and sometimes violent movie.

Review: I love movies, and this is my absolute favorite of all time. I've read the trilogy many times, and was honestly expecting not to like the movie as much. But this film blew me away...the characters were impeccably cast, the special effects gripping, the attention to detail throughout is dazzling, and though the story doesn't follow the book to the letter, it perfectly maintains the spirit of Tolkien's trilogy. This film is so utterly engrossing you hate to see it end; I have seen it many times already, and it just keeps getting better. It not only makes you believe in heroes, it makes you want to be one...

Summary: I don't like these types of movies even if they're good
Review: I love sci-fi or intellectual movies, whatever that means. However, I don't like three hour boring movies. I never read the books, which I'd probably enjoy, but this movie was bad. I saw it a long time ago, during it's cinemtic release, not on DVD, so I have forgotten, thankfully, what the lord of the ring is about. I think if you where it you're invisible for three boring hours and than everybody sees you, gets angry that they looked for three hours when they had not a chance of finding you in the first place and than you escape your impending death by putting credits up so you get a a one year head start on a bunch of guys with swords and shields.

Summary: Wonderful and true enough to the book.
Review: I love the books and read them at least once every two years. I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. I went to the theater three times to see it and I've pre-ordered both editions of the DVD. Actually I'm almost as excited about the Special Extended Edition as I was about the theatrical release. I eagerly anticipated it for over a year.

Kudos to all involved in the making of these movies. The result was fabulous. You have boldly gone where no one dared and astutely shot all three movies in one continous effort (Are you paying attention Mr. Lucas?). Brilliant! None of you need put other entries in your curriculi. It was time someone showed Hollywood the proper way to adapt a classic.

I understand that to bring such a richly described story down to an acceptable duration for a theater session certain sacrifices had to be made. So I'll miss Tom Bombadil, time in Lothlorien was too short (it was fine but I would have liked more). Some events were oversimplified but it had to be done for the sake of time. I understand the need for this. The only thing I did not like was that Aragorn seemed timid, unsure about his destiny. I prefered his unwavering determination to seize his birthright; how he waits patiently, yearning for the time when he'll need to face unsurmountable odds to right an ancestor's folly. I find the books' Aragorn much more interesting. I suspect this was done to develop the love story a bit more than the book and the movie appealing to a broader audience. I can live with that.

Don't take my rant too seriously. I found the movie incredible. And there were a lot of very pleasant surprises. The movie was superbly cast, all the roles. Sir Ian McKellen is Gandalf and I was pleased to see Christopher Lee in the role of Saruman. The special effects were masterfully used, as they needed to be, bringing that magical and complex Tolkien world to the screen. This movie ranks way up there with Lawrence of Arabia and 2001 A Space Odyssey. I love it, this is the type of film that stretches the ratings to 8 stars, 5 stars don't even begin to do it justice.

Once again, thank you very much Jackson and company.

Summary: Best Movie Ever!
Review: I love the books by Tolkien, and all I can say is finally somebody did it right! After waiting years for this, I was worried that something in the treatment of the movie would bother me. Instead, all I've been able to do since seeing it is listen to the sound track, and try to figure out when I can see it again.

When it was over, I didn't want to leave the theatre. I could have gladly sat through 12 hours of this quality of movie. While that only speaks of myself, I can say that nobody...and I mean NOBODY in the theatre left their seats at any time during the course of the movie and previews.

This movie is absolutely true to Tolkien's vision of the Lord of the Rings! Everything that is important to the story happens. All the great lines are in there. And some things are improved upon in a logical manner in keeping with the universe created by Tolkien. For example, the expansions of the Arwen character were entirely appropriate, given that Tolkien's use of this character was rather anemic.
