Summary: Great movie for car guys and gals
Review: The Muscle Car era is not gone. It's recorded for history by H.B. Halicki. This film is about the cars. No blood, no nudity, no cursing, minimal plot and acting, just good clean action fast and gritty. If you want a "slick" production featuring excellent acting and subplot with totally dubbed sound (a high-tourqe Chrysler starter on a Shelby GT? PLEEEAAAAAASE)see GI60S (2000) with Nick Cage. If you want to see (and in the original MegaVHS release "hear") those muscle cars in action in the wild this is your film. Put down that wrench, have a seat, turn up the subwoofer and understand why hot-rodding a Honda in Y2K doesn't compare to a wound-up big block in 1974.

NOTE: For maximum viewing pleasure I recommend pulling the mono sound track from the original MegaVHS release and dropping it over the "new enhanced" stereo soundtrack on this release and burning it to a new DVD of VHS. That way you can have the great new wide screen digital video with the original sound and get all those sweet engine sounds. The dubbed stereo sound effects and the new "Music" on this aniversary edition steals some of the original 70's flavor of this classic.

Summary: love that chase scene
Review: don't listen to maltin. this film is superb. this makes me also think of that great chase scene in Bullitt. This one is much better though. Bullitt's chase scene last a relatively short time compared to the one in gone in sixty seconds. I like this one better. It's got some nice music to compliment the stellar chase sequence good dtunts(especially at the end of the film with the scene entitled "big jump" which i will always cherish) i love that nicely made 1973 souped up Ford Mach 1 Mustang. i really don't like yellow cars but this one oh baby.
here's the scoop a pro car thief makes a deal to steal 48 nicely made exotic and high performance vehicles. The most dangerous one is of course "Eleanor" the yellow mustang which is nicely made. After him and his car thieving gang get every car except one eleanor there starts the problem. the gang almost gets caught with stealing other cars beforehand leading to police suspicion and careful watch over other cars. In fact the second an el dorado gets into the station and it is discovered to be full of heroin a detective comes knocking at there door! They barely manage to get out of that situation and there comes the chase scene the fanous 93 cars totalled in 40 minutes. man that's good!the film might have faltered right here but instead it works to perfection. how they did it i'll never know. Definitely one of the top action films ever made.

Summary: The end all and be all of car chase movies
Review: Gone does not pretend to be anything other than a car chase movie. The plot, such as it is, is purely a set-up for the 40-minute sequence that destroys (at least) 93 cars. Whatever anyone thinks about the non-chase parts of the film, the brilliantly-edited pursuit is well worth the wait. Not only does it stand up to the 2000 remake, Mr. Halicki's masterwork does not suffer in comparison to accepted classics such as Bullitt, The French Connection, or Ronin. The new soundtrack, by itself, is professional and supports the action quite well. While I, as well as other Gone cultists, miss the original music, the re-issue should not be faulted for its omission.

Summary: I liked it more than I thought
Review: After learning that the 2000 movie was actually a remake of a 1974 movie, I got the bug to watch the original. I had a hard time finding it.

I read some reviews that said to skip this 25th anniversary edition and watch the original Media VHS release. I was lucky enough to get my hands on both this weekend.

I liked this movie much better than I thought I would. True, the real highlight is the car chase, everything else is just filler, but it was still a fun movie.

I've read complaints about the remastered anniversary edition available on this DVD. Let me say that after watching both versions, this DVD has a much better, cleaner picture than the old VHS tape. The sound wasn't bad either. My only beef with the anniversary edition was the new soundtrack, everything else was just fine. The anniversary edition on DVD features a generic new pop synth soundtrack. Most of the time, I really wasn't listening to it. But, if you are going to have those 70's hair styles, sunglasses, clothes and sideburns, why mess with the 1970's music? Yes, it was dated, but the music went along with the movie and added to at least a couple scenes.

The original soundtrack should have at least been an available option as an alternate version to watch, even if it was recorded in mono. If that had been done, I'd have given it another star.

As is, it's not bad. The music is a little distracting because it doesn't go at all with the rest of the movie, but if you can get past that annoyance, this DVD is certainly watchable.

It left me wanting an old Mustang.

Summary: Realistic
Review: If you need a glossy hollywood production with chicks like Angelina Jolie working as mechanics (yeah, right) and big name actors like Nicholas Cage and Robert Duvall to think a movie is good then you probably won't like the original "Gone in Sixty Seconds". Real people aren't actors. This show has much more of a real feel to it. To say a movie is good doesn't mean it has to have actors acting like people they really aren't. In this show with some minor deviations these people are what they really are. If real life is boring to you then you need to see movies like Batman, Superman or True Lies. This movie is raw stuff. Some reviewers don't like the way it has been altered and maybe I wouldn't either but I haven't seen this movie in 28 years so I really don't remember. I did notice the music couldn't have been the same but the picture is lots better. If you think car chases are exciting this is one of the best. But if you want to watch something that won an oscar then watch some [stuff] like "Silence of the Lambs".

Summary: Gone in 60 Secons(1974)
Review: This is the original. If you are a car chase fanatic, you'll love this movie, and forget about its shortcomings. Gone in 60 Seconds(1974) was written, produced, directed and stared in by the same man, the late H.B.Halicki. It also stars Marion Busia, George Cole, James McIntire and Jerry Daugirda. With special appearances by Parnelli Jones, J.C. Agajanian and Gary Bettenhausen & the most incredible chase scene ever filmed, it's no wonder why this has become a cult classic among automobile afficianadoes. Halicki stars as Mandrian Pace, an exceptional car thief, who hides behind the perfect front, insurance claims adjuster. After filling the worlds largest shopping list for an off-shore buyer, Pace is double-crossed and this is where he takes it to the street. Driving the infamous "Eleanor", Pace leads you on a 40 minute chase that will leave you breathless! Now for the shortcommings. The downside to this movie is that it was shot on the smallest budget imaginable, and the acting leaves a lot to be desired. But true car nuts aren't interested in all that stuff, just show us the chase!

Summary: Gone in 60 Seconds - Re-issue comments
Review: This DVD is a great reissue of the original movie. The widescreen feature is a nice touch, as well as the digital re-mastering of the video. Very nice job! My only negative comments are the lack of the original soundtrack, featuring songs by Phil Kachaturian. A sort of B-grade "suspense" background track was added, which sort of reminds you of the cheesey old karate movies. Sadly, an important dimension was lost from the film by deleting the original music, especially in the scene with Pumpkin in the office alone, waiting for her man to return..(check out the original movie to compare..). The commentary feature is nice and full of cool trivia, but it too fails to mention anything about the original songs. Another bit of information that would have been a great addition, would have been current interviews with the old cast members, as a sort of follow-up as to their current where-abouts. Other than those few points, the movie is great and a trip down memory lane. Enjoy!

Summary: Important note...
Review: There is another DVD called Deadline Auto Theft / Gone in 60 Seconds 2 that you are going to run across if you go looking for Halicki films. Be forewarned, Deadline Auto Theft is an enhanced version of Gone in 60 Seconds. The DVD touts it as a different movie. I was duped into buying this other version when I already owned the "Original Gone in 60 Seconds" DVD. So now I have two DVD's with the same movie and I'm very disappointed in the deception. After seeing the polished version on the DAT DVD you may want to forego this version, unless you want the extra features. Read up on both versions before making a purchase decision.

Summary: Gone in 60 seconds (1974 version)
Review: After reading all the hype I went and bought this title and honestly, I hope I can sell it to some other chump. The other low rated reviews pretty much reflect my feelings about the movie. To sum it up boring, watching a bunch of average 70's junk cars run into each other, I don't get it? The Elanor chase scene should have been 10 minutes not 40. No other cars worth looking at get any screen time besides the Mustang. The Cannonball run movies were better than this and the newer movies like the remake of Gone in 60 and The Fast and the Furious while exaggerated are way more entertaining. Maybe it's nostalgia for other reviewers but PLEASE take my advice and RENT THIS BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!

Summary: Classic REAL car chase
Review: Yeah yeah, everyone has seen the new Gone in 60, with the car chase that could be separated into separate stupid scenes like the rainwater wash, construction yard, and the completely unrealistic bridge jump with obvious computer generation. Few have seen and appreciated a chase like this. I consider it like the Bullitt chase with Steve McQueen, except longer. In GI60S all the crashes were real too. In the part where Eleanor hits the lightpole on the freeway, Halicki wasn't planning on hitting it, but decided to leave it in the movie, and never did tell the city who actually knocked it down! Great movie, don't expect big budget garbage.
