Summary: Seen It Before! By Far Not the Best War Movie
Review: I have seen many great war movies from Full Metal Jacket to Glory and both have given the tremendous aspects of war. For Full Metal Jacket, it was the grittiness of the General(not 100% sure of his rank), for Glory it was strong about racism. But in Saving Private Ryan, I've seen it all and the open scene really set the tone for a dull movie with no special theme. Were soldiers really that stupid back then? Okay, fine, they're looking for Private Ryan just for American pride. I think you can get that American pride from many Hollywood movies. I'm not saying it's a totally horrible film but if you're going to make me sit for 3 hours, I better see something new. I think Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise are great actors; they just need a new script with a promising plot.

Summary: First of all..I really liked it.
Review: First of all...I really liked it. I am sure you have heard quite a bit about this movie already and I need not reiterate that, but I will share a few thoughts. The battle scenes were extremely realistic and quite elaborate in detail. While there are many warnings about how graphic this picture is, it almost seems that there should be no age restriction on the movie, so that everyone (of all ages) can see the horrid side of war. The story line is a good one, though not true, it does remind you of the true story of the Sullivan brothers (five brothers who were killed while serving on the same navy ship in WWII). I feel the movie could have been a bit more emotional, or played to the audience's emotions better, instead it was oriented more toward the details of war, and less to the personalities of the persons portrayed serving in that war. Bottom line...it was a great movie and definitely worth seeing.

Summary: Almost Perfect
Review: The DVD is fantastic with all of its interactive menus and things to do. As far as the movie goes, it was compelling and very well done but it was not letter perfect and I'm glad it didn't win the Oscar. Spielberg deserved directing Oscar definetly, and Hanks was good enough to win (even though Carrey was snubbed, though Benigni was good too. But the movie's fault lies in its overlength and it's incredibly not believable ending with Hanks( I won't give it away). If you're wondering whether or not to buy it, its worth it still and deserves high praise.

Summary: Superb!
Review: The movie it self is great, however, the picture quality and amazing sound takes it to a new experience. The opening scene makes you feel like you are in the sand and water with them. This is one for your personal library.

Summary: The price of freedom costs dearly
Review: This film should be seen by every American old enough to handle realistic war scenes, especially our Representatives, Senators and everyone in the administration, including the President! I have watched this DVD twice, and I am going to watch it annually because I never want to forget the men & women who gave their lives for my freedom. The first half hour on Omaha Beach looked exactly like all the B&W still photos I've seen of that beach for the past 55 years. I promise you'll be on the edge of your chair for the entire story, and if you have surround sound, you will be flinching from the gunfire and feel as though you are on the beach. It's not for grade or middle schoolers!

Summary: RE: Blurring artifacts.
Review: I saw this movie again in a theater and saw the same blurring of the picture during several scenes that many reviewers have complained about. This is NOT a defect in the disc, but part of the original movie.

Summary: War
Review: How can you describe a situation that the most of us have never experienced.

This film was for me a reminder that no nobody can ever win a war.

Some parts of the Film could have better reflected the true reality of a soldier, but but this would have not made such a good film. I can only hope that what was shown in this Film will never ever happen again in the World.

Summary: Amazing
Review: I can't even begin to explain how great this movie is. It is the best movie I have ever seen by far, that may not be your opinion but you should at least rent it once if you have not seen it yet. It is only suspenseful the first time, but for me my emotional response was greater each time I saw it. The sounds are great. The music is great- if you are at the verge of crying at the end of the movie wait until the music comes on at the credits and you will start crying. Most people focus on the d-day invasion as the best part of the movie. I agree it was great but I thought the final battle scene was much better. I never noticed any plot holes and despite the fact that I have watched the movie eight times I am still gripped by it for the entire two hours and 49 minutes. I don't think it is an anti-war movie; it made me wish I could have lived back in the 40's so I could have fought in the war. Don't ask me why, it just did. I would not recommend watching this movie if you have to concentrate on something important or be happy the next day or you need to get a good sleep. The first time I saw this movie, I could not stop thinking about it for a week. I just watched it again and have been depressed and unable to concentrate on normal tasks for two days. But that could just be me. You just have to see it that is all I can say.

Anyway, I have been reading some reviews that say the Germans are depicted as evil. However, I thought this movie put a human face on the Germans and I have much more respect for them now then before I saw the movie. Doesn't anybody remember the scene where the SS soldier came down the stairs without touching Upham?

I don't know why this movie makes me so sad, I think it is a mixture of things. One is the fact that this war did actually happen, and not too long ago. So you can't really comfort yourself by saying, "it's just a movie". One other thing is that I don't like the way America has turned out and I wonder if the lives of those men were worth ending the threat of oppression and tyranny. America has become consumed by sprawl, SUVs, and people willing to do anything to prevent being sued. I somewhat wish I could live in those times, either to fight in the war or to just live in an America worth fighting for. Also, you grow to like the men by the end of the movie, and watching them die is very heartbreaking (as would be seeing your friends die had you actually been in the war). Whatever the case, this movie makes me very sad and I am sure it will make you feel that way also.

Summary: OVERRATED
Review: The scenes of wartime violence are effective and realistic, but it isn't enough to make a movie great. There isn't enough to the movie besides the violence. That doesn't mean the movie is pointless, but the violence takes up too much running time. The scene at the beginning works but the scene of violence at the end is overlong. O.K. war is hell,we get the point. Problem 2: the characters and their journey for the most part aren't exactly memorable. Problem 3: the characters are too modern, THIS MOVIE IS SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE OVER FIFTY YEARS AGO! Problem 4: the movie offers little (if any) insight as to what led up to the D-day invasion. Speilberg didn't bother to set up the situation or the characters. In spite of it's problems, it is a very good one and worth seeing, but IT ISN'T GREAT.
