Rating: Summary: Entertaining James Bond-style action flick Review: As previous reviewers have said, this is an action film with lots of explosions, lots of action, and enough plot development to keep everyone interested. It's been compared endlessly to James Bond films; after seeing it, I think this is an apt comparison. The ending is so very Bond that one feels they might almost have paid royalties. The movie very definitely wants to present the main character as the anti-Bond, but he's Bond as he was back when Bond was fun-- stylish, sexy, and having as much fun on his missions as the audience is watching him. On occasion the film is so very stylish that I felt like I was watching a car ad, and the plot is entirely predictable. But who needs plot, really? There was chemistry between the leads, and all of the actors seemed to be having a hell of a fun time, whether it was sprinkling their lines with Russian exclamations or just sneering an awful lot. The perfect-for-recurring minor characters (a baby-faced MIT graduate as the Q-like eccentric inventor, the father-figure boss) and the end of the movie make it seem like there's definite potential for a sequel, and I for one would love to see it.
Rating: Summary: uneXXXcusable Review: Vin Diesel is a great actor, as is shown in this movie (though some of his aesthetics were a bit overdone). The action scenes were entertaining. But that's about it. First off, the first 30 minutes were supposed to set up the story, but the plot was hard to follow. So that left me to guess what would happen in the rest of the movie, and that's where it got terribly predictable: guy meets tough girl, they fall in love, guy finds out she's "one of them" (the villians), girl says she really isn't, guy and girl get the villians and save the day. If you like action films, think twice before seeing this flick.
Rating: Summary: Vin is great in this movie! Review: Ok, I don't know where someone got that this was a elementary movie because I thought it kicked butt! The movie has quite a few twists and it's not your every day action movie. Even though they could've picked maybe a different girl (she kinda got on my nerves) it really fit in with the whole plot. My cousin said it moved slow. I didn't think so, but you might have a different opinion. If you watch the extra stuff, you find out that Vin did most of the stunts. That's what makes it even better!
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: Vin Diesel was awful in this movie. He couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. the fast and furious was over the top and entertaining. Diesel was good in that flick. XXX was a lot of pointless action, no character or story development and unbelieve stunts. a lot of things happened with no real reasoning to why. Stay away. do not waste 2 hours on this one.
Rating: Summary: OH MY GOD!!! Review: This is the first time I write a review, so what made me do it: is this PEACE OF CRA* OF A MOVIE, so please save your money, buy any thing else just don't buy this movie.
Rating: Summary: XXX-cruciatingly lame. Bond Lives Forever. Review: Alright, alright. Before all the fans of this movie get jumpy because of my rating and title of this review, let me say my piece and get out of here:I know this film was supposed to be the James Bond of the PlayStation generation - if this effort was the filmmaker's (including screenplay, etc) best, then I pity the PlayStation generation and their taste in films. Now, don't get me wrong. I like Vin Diesel and his whole tough guy shtick, he pulls that off pretty well. But the supporting cast (with the exception of Samuel L. Jackson) was and remains abysmal - poor acting, poor delivery, poor us for having to suffer through it all. It was an obvious rip-off of the Bond formula, which has worked for 40 years and 20 films, and will continue to do so. Hip-ifying the 'formula' for the latest generation is not a bad idea, it just wasn't done very well. I know there will be a sequel, just like Fast and The Furious, which Vin is not scheduled to appear in (TF&F 2, that is). He will be in XXX 2, however. XXX was OK. I don't think this movie or TF&F is worthy of building a franchise, but they didn't ask me, did they? Alas, if you are in the mood for a film where you don't have to think (because there's nothing to figure out), by all means, buy this DVD. Personally, I'd rent the sucker.
Rating: Summary: XXX or ??? Review: Director Rob Cohen hooks up with his Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel for an abrasive exercise in wall-to-wall stunts. The mindless, contrived plot well-serves the eye-popping action sequences, but only time will tell if Diesel's hip hop secret agent will replace the durable Bond franchise for the video game generation. The amazing, extreme stunts and chases make this worth considering. Extras include deleted scenes and an alternate ending. Eye candy at best and mindless FX at worst. One great avalanche and a listless, perhaps embarassed (?), Diesel can't really save this oddity.
Rating: Summary: Dumb Review: I was so dissappointed. What a stupid movie. I could only watch about 30 minutes of it before hitting the eject button. Since they don't have half stars, divide my rating by 2.
Rating: Summary: Oh well... Review: I rented the DVD based on all the hype out there & was disappointed. XXX is basically a mindless action want-a-be James Bond film. Vin Diesel replays the same "bad boy" character from "The Fast and the Furious" (which was a better movie). XXX has some interesting stunts-if that's what you into. The movie would make a better video game!
Rating: Summary: XXX: No Bond but a modern master spy to boot Review: At first i thought XXX would be a blow up explosive movie with no plot. was I wrong, great movie and awesome special effects to boot. I cannot wait for the sequal. Vin Diesel has shown that he is a great actor and can expand his roles in the fiture. The DVD contains extras, my favorite being the one on the Pontiac GTo, that people would really want to watch. Overall, an enjoyable film.
