Summary: of course... because it's a COMIC BOOK
Review: Yes, this movie has received a lot of criticism for being overly hyped, too cartoony, or too predictable. There is a plain reason for this - it's based on a COMIC BOOK! I think people really need to relax and just enjoy it once in a while, not everything has to be Academy Award-worthy. I do admit that Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin mask was just a bit corny looking, but the awesome special effects pretty much make up for that. I still think he was a great choice for the part, as were Tobey Maguire and James Franco for theirs. Some think it adds too much of a teen factor, having two of the biggest teen stars in the leading roles (Maguire and Kirsten Dunst), but the fact that it was derived from a comic book that has been read by many people more than twice their ages helps to weigh out that belief. All in all, it's a great action packed movie that really pulls you into the story, and I for one can't wait for a sequel.

Review: You can't go wrong if you are a Spidey fan. This DVD set has it all! The special features alone make it worth the price. The movie is an updated and condensed version of how he met the Green Goblin. I hope there is a sequel. William DeFoe plays the best villian yet. They have to bring him back for the next one. I don't believe John Malcovitch would have been as good as the Green Goblin. He was one of the first choices.

Summary: A Four-Color Masterpiece
Review: Spider-Man is the best superhero movie of the past 20 years.It's closest relative in the success of translating both the immense scale and intimate characterizations of the character is 1978's Superman. When Superman was released, Christopher Reeve was an unknown who took that blank slate and brought Superman to life, his Clark Kent was a bumbling and stumbling fool while Superman was heroic and majestic. I thought Tobey Maguire was a good choice to play Spider-Man but worried that his fame may dominate the role - so it would be "Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man". Well, file that away in the cabinet of bad ideas, because Tobey Maguire is the living embodiment of Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Instantly you sympathize with the character, the lowly everygeek who gets pushed around at school and dares not approach the girl he's loved since he was six, filled out beautifully by Kirsten Dunst. X-Men was a good comic-to-screen execution but had the unfortunate need to explain several characters' origins in a short amount of time, Spider-Man takes the advantage of a solitary origin and allows us to see the character evolve with time - stunningly faithful to the source material but moving at a good on-screen clip. When Peter is bitten by the spider and receives his powers, you jump with him roof to roof, laugh as he tries out his new abilities and marvel as his motions loosen up and become like the human spider who's existed in our minds and in two dimensions for these many years. Instead of dark and brooding, we get a hero who takes tragedy and becomes heroic and a symbol to the people he helps. The credo of "With great power comes great responsibility" is translated by Maguire into the "Friendy neighborhood Spider-Man" who makes the skyscrapers of New York his home. The Big Apple should get some on-screen credit as well, Spider-Man is able to simultaneously swing above the people but weave his web from building to building - never skipping a beat as it becomes second nature to wind his way through this world unto itself. Willem Dafoe does a good job as industrialist Norman Osborn who makes the transition to the maniacal Green Goblin. The scenes where he struggles with his madness are both funny and sad, while the explanations for his appearance are actually made more logical within the context of the film than in the comics - usually the opposite. My only complaint is that he is a little too much of a wisecracker than menancing villain, but his actions in the films final third make up for it. Rosemary Harris and Cliff Robertson as Aunt May and Uncle Ben come across as a loving couple, but not as hickish as Ma and Pa Kent - which is quite accurate. The scenes with Peter and his Aunt are nicely done as well, rooting the fantastic world of Spider-Man with the very real world of Peter Parker. J.K. Simmons is brilliant as newspaper magnate J. Jonah Jameson, perfecting the art of cigar chomping bluster - the scenes with him were way too short, please more JJ in the sequel! James Franco did well as the neglected Harry Osborn, making a unique dynamic in which his best friend and his father are both superpowered beings on flip sides of the coin who must sit down to dinner together. Kirsten Dunst is superb as the sexy, yet damaged Mary Jane who is part of the fabric that makes Peter Parker/Spider-Man discover his true purpose and find himself with her behind him. Her performance is subtle, but the scenes with her and Tobey Maguire are well done. Spider-Man does its source material proud, and is a film that can be enjoyed by both diehard fanboys and the general public. It is what Superman was, and the first Batman continued. Watching this makes you wonder what Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher were doing when they destroyed the Batman mythos in the cinematic disasters of the three Batman sequels. Ditto for Superman 3 and 4. Spider-Man and Superman are the benchmarks for excellence in comic filmmaking, proving that you can take these Amazing and Sensational characters of two dimensions and faithfully create an entertaining and engaging film without dumbing it down.

Summary: Attack of the Clones was better than Spider-Man
Review: Ok, Spider-Man was named the summer blockbuster for 2002 and it was a great movie and more than $400 million- but does that mean it was better than Star Wars Episode II- Attack of the Clones? Not a chance. Spider-Man was ruined by William Dafoe as the green goblin. Sure, the visual effects in spider-man were compelling but it was not better than Attack of the Clones. Spider-Man was predictable and basically a glorified verison of the cartoon. If you want to see real action and adventure- see Lord of the Rings or Attack of the Clones- both are better than Spider-Man.

Summary: Spidey Lives!
Review: This was possibly the most highly-anticipated comic book movie adaptation ever, next to the X-Men, and it may have taken years to bring this about, but it is definitely worth the wait. initially I wasn't sure who they were going to cast in the title role, but when I heard the name Tobey Maguire, I initially scratched my head in confusion, considering the fact that I would've never thought that a guy like him would take part in something like this, given his Hollywood track record. But after this, I don't think I would picture anyone else as Peter Parker. He really brings the character to life, embodying many of the deep qualities we love and admire from the comics and the cartoon, but in a majorly human way. Kirsten Dunst was excellent as Mary Jane, I initially thought she would play Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man's FIRST love interest, but then I saw that Kirsten had dyed her hair, so it pretty much indicated that MJ was in this film. this movie was excellent on so many levels, it was intelligent, it was funny, it was touching, it was dramatic, it was action-packed, everything you would love in a movie. On top of that, it's Spider-Man for crying out loud! Everyone loves that wall crawler. I'm definitely excited about the sequels!

Review: Okay, I have to admit, I got a copy of Spider Man on DVD a month in advance. Anyways, if you're a big comic book fan as I am, then Spider Man is the film that Spidey fans have been waiting years to see! This film even exceeds the recent X-Men movie, in my opinion, as the best Marvel comic book to ever hit theaters! This film is the top grossing film of 2002 so far and with great reasons! The DVD of Spider Man, which is available in either widescreen or fullscreen verisons, is available with two different discs. Disc one, with Spider Man on the cover, is dedicated to the film itself with commentary by director Sam Raimi, the producer of the film (I can't remember her name), and star Kirsten Dunst. (Sorry, no commentary by Tobey Maguire.) It also has a couple of music videos, and a few other film trailers. (The start up menu has Spider Man gliding through the New York skyline as he does at the end of the movie!) Disc two, with the green goblin on the cover has a LOT of cool features including a couple of behind the scenes specials, and other features including the background of Spider Man and every one of the comic books he has been in since day one! Be sure to check out the goblin's lair, which has some neat background info especially a special with Stan Lee and how he created Spider Man in an Amazing Stories comic book! If you're a comic book fan, and what guy in America isn't, then Spider Man is the DVD for you this holiday season! Pre-Order this blockbuster here on Amazon.com, and you'll have many hours of cool Spidey entertainment on your hands this holiday season!

Summary: This is going to be great!.
Review: i am looking so forard to getting this movie. I love superheros.. Batman, Superman, so when my husband said.. so want to go see Spiderman... i was a little nervous. But i went.. and man it was good! It was into the whole movie. I love that they show him "changing" into spiderman, and the route that it took for him to become spiderman. This is a wonderful movie. I liked it so much we saw it three times in the theatre. It was well worth every penny. Which there are a lot of movies i wish that i wouldn't have seen and wasted my money, but this one.. was WELL WORTH it!!! This collection would be GREAT for Christmas!!!

Review: I have great expectataion for Spider-man. Although it did not impressed me, neither I am disappointed. The actions are there. Storylines are there. So what is missing? The special effects! I feel that it is just a bit "too computer". But overall, it is still consider a nice show. The dvd gift set is very nicely done. Should get if you are not even a fan of spider-man.
