Summary: If you didn't like it, you didn't understand it.
Review: From the first time I saw it I thought it was a masterpiece. I understood it from the start and I hadn't even read the book yet. I was in my teens at the time and now I am 29. I am on the fifth book now and I can say that Frank Herbert was a genius. David Lynch obviously couldn't have made the movie tried and true to the book. The movie would have been an epic. "Plans within plans." It would have been enjoyable but the mystery that Lynch leaves for us and the necessary modifications to the story he includes in this one is perfect. When people don't like a movie, 9 times out of 10 it is because they don't understand it. If you understand David Lynch's, a true artist, other films then you are going to understand this one and be entertained and pleased. For all you people that think, "Oh giant worms, huh?" The worms and spice are one and they are a metaphor for our Desires. The cure is within the poison. How our belly has become our god. And then the whole socio-politico theme of the movie is about the power struggle of control. Muad'dib is the savior that is within us all trying to help us make the right decisions. To listen to our hearts. To help us break free from our self-induced bonds. We put ourselves into slavery and it is only we that can break us free. If you didn't understand it or fell asleep while watching you just weren't ready for it. When you are ready for that part in your learning of life you will understand it. sincerely, david

Summary: Extremely Abridged Version of Dune
Review: Unfortunately, this DVD has been edited beyond belief. Many scenes have been cut out. I verified this by watching the full version on TV! I was extremely dissapointed.

Summary: Read the book, THEN see this movie
Review: Dune is a doomed film. The book is wwaaaayyyy too complicated to film, so this is like watching samples from it. Beautifully done samples!

Dune was a great book. Read the book, THEN see the movie, and you'll understand why some people give it 5 stars. By the way - don't read the rest of the books in the series. You were warned...

Summary: Dune: The "Excalibur" of Sci Fi Movies.
Review: Like a fine wine this film has aged very well. While viewing it, you would never guess it was made in 1984. Dune is filled with impressive and futuristic images in an artsy fartsy kind of way. Yes the plot is beyond complicated, as most of David Lynch's movies usually are, but the characters carry the weight of the complex nature of this film and turn it into a highly fascinating look at the year 10,000, chock full o' worms! The whole plot centers around "the spice" and how it is an essential part of everyone's "diet" so to speak. The spice must flow afterall and the evil forces are out to control all spice production. In the processs, the worms are being aggrevated and we can't have that! One thing leads to another, the good guys win, the bad guys die and are overthrown and guy gets girl, guy has self-realization, guy rides big worm across the desert, the end. You know, your everyday run of the mill type movie.

If you have enough patience to make it through to the end, you will feel like you have made this mystical journey with Paul Atreides, in his world, on his terms. Or you will feel overwhelmed and exhausted and scream out "GET OUT OF MY MIND!".

Summary: Does the book a great diservice
Review: You know.... in the book, no one fights with the lasers and stuff that they used in the movie. A laser hitting a shield is supposed to cause a nuclear explosion. Oh, and the fremen used crysknives... swords made from the teeth of a worm, not stupid little devices that bluh stuff up based on voice... and the Atradies have fanatical troops because well... read the book. This movie should have had a different title, because it is only superficially similar to Frank Herberts great work.

Summary: Better than Si-Fi
Review: If you like si-fi this is your movie. The only reson it is not popular is it was killed by Star Wars. If it weren't for Star Wars this movie would be just as popular. Giant worms rule!

Summary: Don't bother
Review: Unless you are a fanatic of the book don't even bother with this one.Although the movie is packed with impressive visual effects the story line is hard to take and confusing.

Summary: Great Flick - Anyone notice the out-of-sync dialogs?
Review: A few places you can really notice the dialogue is out of the sync with the actors, especially for the big monologues. Kinda annoying, but not a deal breaker in the least. Was it always that way? Still an awesome movie and a great DVD.

Summary: Dull, Vague, and Neverending
Review: Dune will be remembered for how overdrawn it was and how it made little sense (and how I nearly fell asleep in the theatre). I was glad when it was over (fianlly!). You will, too.
