Summary: Wolf Gangpeterson back in the water again
Review: Director Wolf Gangpeterson decided he wanted to make another movie based in the water. His previous movie of that sort was the great movie Das Boot (German for 'The Boat'). He didn't do no where near as good a job on this movie as he did on Das Boot but still thius is an edge of your seat thriller at least when the three storms merge on the unfortunate men onboard the Andrea Gail. But Before that happens You see George Clooney the captain and his men struggling to get a good catch of swordsword fish. So before the storm comes you just want to see them catch some fish. Ther are a few sub plots that are placed nicely during the andrea gails fishing scenes. With the family on a boat trip to Cuba when Hurricane Grace hits and the rescue pilots. All in all a good movie worth buying.

Summary: An Odd Film
Review: The film itself wasn't too bad. Pointless banter and arguements on the boat between the characters and an unusual acting performance from Clooney. Special effects, great they were, but far too samey.

The thing that really puzzled me by this film was, if in real life, the crew of the Andrea Gail all died, how was the film a True Story? Because surely there would have been no-one left to describe what went on inside the boat!

Bizarre movie...

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: Unbelievably bad! The only redeeming part of this movie was the comedy of Clooney out on the fallen mast being whipped about by the hurricane winds. Truly hilarious! Did anyone think to [at least] consult a meterologist and physicist for this? At least it would have almost convinced me that this happened.

Summary: THIS IS THE BEST SUMMER MOVIE EVER!
Review: I TOTALLY LOVED THIS MOVIE!IN FACT,I HAVE THE C.D.IN MY C.D.ROM RIGHT NOW![THE SOUNDTRACK IS AWESOME,GET IT] WHEN I FIRST WENT TO THIS FILM,I CAME OUT OF THE THEATRE LOVING IT ALOT! IM SO GLAD THAT HOLLYWOOD HAS MADE A FILM ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO BE A FISHERMEN,AND THAT FISHERMEN RISK THEIR LIVES SO WE CAN EAT AND ENJOY FISH PRODUCTS. I LOVED THE ANDREA GAIL,IT WAS SUCH A NEAT SHIP ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS IS WHEN DIANE LANE IS REUNTIED WITH MARK WAHLBERG IN THE BEGINNING,YOU COULD EASILY TELL THAT THEY LOVED EACH OTHER ALOT!AND WHEN DAINE LANE GETS IN THAT FIGHT WITH MICHEAL IRONSIDE,BECAUSE ALL HE CARED ABOUT WAS MONEY AND HIS SHIP,AND NOT THE CREW.[YOURE COUNTING YOURE MONEY,MY GUYS OUT THERE,RISKING HIS LIFE FORA BUNCH OF STUPID FISH] AND THE MUSIC WHEN THEIR CATCHING THE SWORDFISH,[I HAVE A SWORDFISH STATUE THAT I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS,FOR ME ITS A MEMORIAL FOR ALL WHO HAVE BEEN LOST AT SEA,INCLUDING THAT SIX]AND THE MUSIC WHEN THEY COME HOME,I ALWAYS TURN IT UP REAL LOUD,I GOT IN TROUBLE A FEW TIMES! THE SCENE WHERE THAT 100 FT.WAVE DESTROYS THE ANDREA GAIL,THAT PART ALWAYS MAKES ME SAD.THE RESCUE CREW SCENES ARE PRETTY AWESOME TOO.THE ONLY PEOPLE I DIDNT LIKE ARE THE ONES ON THAT SAILBOAT.THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEY SHOULD NOT OF BEEN OUT THERE! I WOULD REALLY RECCOMEND THIS AWESOME FLICK! IVE WATCHED IT THREE TIMES IN A ROW NOW! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD GET THE POSTER? MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS MINIJENNA@HOTMAIL.COM THANKS,HAPPY NEW YEAR,ANDREA GAIL!

Summary: okay movie, great book
Review: This movie is a must read (the book, that is). All in all it's an okay flick. The early scenes are bit maudlin as the film tries to compress a lot of emotional background into a minimum of film time before getting out to sea. Some of the feigned New England accents are truly painful (the award for worst effort goes to the actress playing Captain Linda Greenlaw, a hideous parody of a Downeast Maine accent). Mark Wahlberg turns in a workmanlike performance as Bobby Shatford, whose girlfriend begs him not to go on the voyage. Clooney is okay as the doomed Captain Billy Tyne, but the film is trying to accomplish too much in too little time, so no one really gets to develop their character. The best performance is turned in by an actor I didn't recognize, who plays a shaggy, bearded crewman who spends half the voyage at the throat of one of his mates and leaves his little boy ashore.

The special effects are very good, and the scenes of the fishing boat fighting the storm are gripping. Nevertheless, the book is a much better read than this was a film. Buy the book; you'll enjoy it a whole lot more.

Summary: WHY ALL THE BAD REVIEWS?
Review: No, you're not going to see any Academy Award performances here, although the special effects aren't bad.

George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg? Yeah, I know, but it works pretty well. A few scenes on the bridge actually show some interaction between the characters that's worth something.

There are some much better movies pitting man against nature than this one. Do I really have to name them? How about Moby Dick, The Old Man and the Sea or even Jaws.

If what you're looking for is something to escape with, you could do a lot worse than The Perfect Storm.

Good musical score, above-average SFX and enough action to keep most viewers on the edge of their seat.

Maybe not worth buying, but certainly worth watching.

Summary: wow!
Review: I'll be honest, I did not think I was going to like this at all but I was really thrilled and entertained. The storyline is strong and the acting is very powerful. Full marks all round for a very high quality movie with believable characters, ( based upon a real life story and not too romantacized for the screen). The photography is just superb and George Clooney gets very high marks for executing a very different role from his normal fare. An outstanding movie - buy it

Summary: Petersen's folly
Review: Ah, Wolfgang... you made such an impression on me when I was just 10 years old, "reading" my first foreign film, Das Boot. That movie sticks to you, scares the hooey outta ya, makes you think... but this... this "Storm" this thing... this hideousness.. total lack of subtlety.. makes a guy wanna barf.

I didn't read the book, but of course I knew what was going to happen and being from Boston and all there was a certain allure to this film, the local angle and what-not, but what a gigantic let-down! Here's my experience of the movie in an nutshell.. you can send me your heartfelt thanks for saving you the... rental charge:

1. Some fishing guy gets his pride all hurt and has to go out to prove himself a tough fishing guy in front of his crew and a competing lady fishing guy.

2. You don't know anyone's name on the boat, even a good hour into the film. You're saying to yourself, "Is that guy Murph or Eddie? Is there even an Eddie in this film? Does anyone want me to go get popcorn?"

4. In line getting popcorn you find other movie patrons each with a fixed stare, a sense of impending doom. It's "Rime of the Ancient Snack Bar" as the undead who have been watching this film seek respite from it by standing in line as long as possible. I give everyone behind me "cuts" and stare at the Dove Bar poster behind the counter. Twenty minutes pass.

5. I return with popcorn and ask my date, "What happened?" She says, "The storm is coming." I ask, "The fat guy. Is his name Dougie?" No reply.

6. The big wave from the movie poster comes and kills everyone. I think I hear some muted cheering behind me. I sigh in relief. The fat guy says, "This is going to be hard on my boy." Is that what you'd say if you were in frigid salt-water with a boat on top of you? I think a stream of expletives or frantic praying to the deity of your choice is more apropos. I mean, really... What did he expect Micky (or Dougie or whatever) to say? "Yeah, I'll let your son know you said that after I swim back to shore. See ya." I am dying for another box of popcorn, another peek at the Dove Bar poster

7. Wolfgang Petersen, in a move I believe inspired by custom airbrush paintings on the sides of many 1970's cargo vans, superimposes the angelic softly-focused visage of Wahlberg's girlfriend's face on a far and wide shot of Wahlberg floating quietly in the north Atlantic, so much cinematic flotsam. The voice-over reads some corny letter he wrote to the girlfriend. The End.

I hate this movie almost as much as I do "Twister"

Summary: JCMICHAELS.COM The Perfect Storm Review
Review: A thrill ride from the very start, The Perfect Storm takes you into a world that many find unfamiliar. George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg star in this film as fisherman caught in the 1991 storm that has been called the greatest storm in recorded history. Their adequate performances thankfully don't detract from the overall theme and feel of the movie. Still allowing you to experience the characters overall urgency. If you liked both Titanic and Twister, then this is an amalgamation of both.

The disk is loaded with features that allow you to see the different and amazing techniques to make the film so realistic. The visual trickery involved is amazing and probably worth a second viewing.

Overall I wouldn't rush out and buy this DVD, the acting is sometimes a little wooden and awkward. But if you happen to receive it accidentally from a DVD club director's selection, I wouldn't return.
