Summary: Deep Impact is the right title for this one!
Review: This movie is inevitably compared with "Armageddon." In my opinion, the comparison ends with the subject matter and the strategies for destroying the comet. "Armageddon" is a Bruce Willis movie, and Bruce--whom I enjoy-- puts up a great fight with the big space object. It's entertaining, it's fun to watch, but it's not very different from a lot of John Wayne movies in its essential story line. "Deep Impact," on the other hand, deals with the emotional, social, and political effects of impending disaster. The portrayals of all the characters were thoughtful and finely wrought. (What a treat to see Vanessa Redgrave and Maximillian Schell in this movie!)

Tia Leoni plays a character who may seem "wooden"-- I know from many years of experience working with people that her reaction is totally believable, that many people shut down when faced with overwhelming panic. I also found her parents, and her relationship with them, to be very skillfully portrayed. As for Morgan Freeman, I'd vote for him anytime. This movie has quickly made its way into my list of all-time favorites (my husband and two teenagers agree with me on this one). It makes me think of "Testament" with Jane Alexander, which lacked spectacular special effects but resonated with human truth. The difference is that I can't bring myself to watch "Testament" again, but I can see myself watching "Deep Impact" again, and sharing it with friends.

By the way, "Deep Impact" has a very cool website with links to articles in astronomy journals that gave me new respect for all those big space objects out there.

Summary: Good Attempt
Review: The problem with this film is that it attempts to be a serious dramatic film, but it miserably failed to do so. It should have just tried to go out the humorous action way like the mediocre Armageddon. The problem with this movie are the actors. I can name about 4 actors that were just plain awful in this movie. Morgan Freeman, overrated as a president, he plays his character too blandly and doesn't distress enough emotion to convince me. And then there is Tea Leoni whom i don't want to even get into. The special effects weren't that great compared to Armageddon (considering the fact that it cost half as much as Armageddon)but they were OK, especially the scenes on the moon. Just like Armageddon, the film is astrologically incorrect. This movie would be an OK rent, but dont waste your money on buying this movie; only if you are a die hard lover of this movie, i would allow you to buy it. :)heheheheheheh

In case you are wondering, Armageddon was in production before Deep Impact and that is the reason why this movie doesn't have as much eye-candy, because it was rushed for release before Armageddon. :)

Summary: Realism, Realism,Realism
Review: That's what one has to look at when viewing this type of movie. In order for the film to work you can't have too many unbelievable scenes (Armageddon style)...but rather, material you can relate to. This movie succeeds with a powerful cast and a plausible script. "Deep Impact" isn't Disney World nor a mindless collection of cheap one liners (Bruce Willis style), but a very well done emotional experience that you should see.

Summary: One of the most moving films I've seen in recent years
Review: Attack the film if you want, but as a recently-married man, I'll never forget the scene of the husband and wife in each other's arms, staring into each other's eyes, knowing their lives are about to end as a wave is coming toward them. It reminded me of "Titanic" in that human beings, when faced with the inevitable, can rise to the occassion with grace and dignity. The DVD version of the film only enhances that wonderful message.

Summary: disaster film takes itself seriously - and deserves to.
Review: Deep impact eschews postmodern irony and detachment in favour of serious, old-fashioned drama. This was such an effective chick-flick disaster film, I cried both times I saw it - and I'M A GUY!

Summary: One of the most thoughtful, moving films ever made
Review: "Deep Impact" has some problems with pacing, but it was realistic, for the most part technically accurate, and very moving. The ending had me in tears, and that's only happened about four times in thirty years. Good, thoughtful drama, with stunning performances by Freeman and Duvall. *THIS* is the end-of-the-world movie to see.

Summary: Finally, an action/disaster movie with some intelligence!
Review: After suffering through Armageddon, I fully expected Deep Impact to be a similarly wasteful way to spend two hours of my life. I couldn't have been more wrong! I'm a real fan of human drama, which is why Armageddon left me so cold. It had the intelligence of a sidewalk. The makers of Deep Impact, on the other hand, wisely decided to give the action/one-liners/cliches a rest, and they focused on the deeper issues resulting from a society being forced to contemplate its own demise. I haven't been this emotionally moved by a movie since Titanic, and I loved every minute of it.

Summary: The best disaster movie of them all
Review: If you ever get the chance, please see this movie, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Steven Spielberg lends his touch as executive producer, and Mimi Leder, who worked on the TV series surely deserves an Oscar for a smartly directed and intelligently written tale of a comet heading for Earth and the various attempts to stop it. And it poses the question - 'what would you do if the Earth was going to be hit in several months' time?' The special effects are fantastic, especially the tidal wave and space scenes, the storyline very believable that you feel you're actually there and the acting, especially by Morgan Freeman, was superb too. On the whole, better than ARMAGEDDON(also a brilliant movie) and more realistic.

Summary: Wonderful movie...A MUST SEE!!!
Review: Anyone who thinks this movie is unrealistic is an idiot. This was a very intelligent movie. A MUST SEE!!!!

Summary: NOT PERFECT, BUT STILL BETTER THAN MOST
Review: Having seen both Deep Impact and Armageddon, I can say that I much prefered the former. The effects were very good, the story line well done. Indeed, it did develop several subplots. Life is that way. Life can also get "mushy" at times. There's nothing wrong with feeling or sensing emotion during a movie -- in fact, one should! I also prefered the humor being kept to a minimum. Armageddon had too much of it. Finally, the scene of the astronaut reading to his injured comrade was sensitive and touching. Mushy? NOT!
