Summary: I laughed, I cried...
Review: What a magnificent movie! I know I use a lot of 5s in my reviews, but the fact is that I have a tendency to only put time into reviewing those things that I truly enjoy and appreciate. I don't want to draw attention to those things I don't care for, unless it seems truly important to do so. This movie was fantastic! I did find Tom Berenger's character annoying at times. For someone who was obsessed with finding the "lost tribe," and asking the Barbara Hershey character for help, it seems like he spent a lot of time bitching about the help he got and casting hateful glances at the Natives when he actually found them. What on earth did he expect? Other than that, though, the Indians themsevles were beautiful, the scenery to die for, the love story just a tad smarmy, but I loved the whole thing anyway. In a nutshell, I laughed, I cried...

Summary: RE: LEONARD MALTIN'S REVIEW
Review: THE GOOD THING AND THE BAD THING ABOUT FREE SPEECH IS THAT EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO HIS OWN OPINION REGARDLESS OF HOW ASSININE THE OPINION IS. LAST OF THE DOGMEN IS A MOVIE FOR EVERYONE WITH AVERAGE OR ABOVE AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE. PERHAPS THAT'S WHY MALTIN DIDN'T LIKE IT. HE PROBABLY THINKS THAT WILLY WONKA'S CHOCOLATE FACTORY WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!

Summary: Fine Storytelling, Authentic and Engaging tale
Review: Last of the Dogmen ranks as one of my favorite movies of all time. I own it on VHS and DVD and love the additional features that come on the DVD version. If you are interested in the background and behind the scenes details, you will enjoy the DVD. The picture quality is top notch and helps to do justice to the beautiful scenery.

As far as the story, there is something so good, so valuable about the values displayed by Lewis and Lilly in regard to their discovery of the lost tribe of Cheyenne. They never even entertain the thought of making the Cheyenne's presence known to the rest of the world. A strong message of respect for people and nature flows through the film like a deep current. Berenger and Hershey are two seasoned pros that seem to be performing at their peak and I truly appreciate what their talents, wisdom, and experience brought to each of their roles and to the integrity of the story. The native american characters are real people, not "Indians." The actors that portrayed these roles did an outstanding and commendable job of portraying the Cheyenne people with dignity, humanity, and respect. The Cheyenne costumes, language, and customs were authentic.

The score of this film is passionate and moving. It throbs with romance, majestic beauty, and life to the beat of a native american drum.

In essence the film evoked for me purity, passion, wonder, and respect for life. If these are qualities that you appreciate in a story, you won't be disappointed.

Review: This was a great movie based on some historical facts about the Cheyenne. There were volunteers who actually did kill the Cheyenne and carry their body parts on their person and saddles as they went back through town after the killing.

The actors and actresses did a great job. If you like happy endings you will like this movie. GREAT JOB.

Summary: Loved it
Review: I watched this late last night on BBC as I couldn't sleep. I'd never heard of it, but I loved every minute of it. The version shown here was wide screen with no narration. The only pity was I didn't record it!!! I'll have to find the same format to buy now. To find such an engrossing film was a joy.

Summary: A movie to watch over and over
Review: This is one of my favorites. I tried buying it when it first came out and the video store wanted $50 to order it. I ordered it. It would've been worth every penny, but I found it for $10 at Walmart. I bought all of the ones they had. I loved Dances with Wolves, but I like this one more. A must for anyone interested in Native American culture.

Summary: Very Very Good
Review: Either Mr. Maltin is THE WORST MOVIE CRITIC OF THE CENTURY, or he is deaf, dumb, and BLIND. This is a very exciting movie that is on my instant classic list. You have adventure, romance, Indians, and renegades all rolled into one great movie! What more could you ask for.
