Summary: Jaws 2: Special Edition DVD
Review: When I was just a kid, and I watched Jaws for the first time on t.v., it amazed me, and to this day, it still does! But as soon as the movie was over and the credits began to roll, I was left wanting more. Would I never see that mechanical fin, accompanied by Williams' classic score again? Not long after that, my parents mentioned to me that a sequel had been made, and that it was available on video. Needless to say, I nagged them into renting it, and I was not dissapointed. Jaws 2 sort of appealed to a different age group, but it still maintained the spirit of the first film. John Williams also returned, providing a score that was in every way as good as the first, which made the movie even better. However, I notice this movie never really gets the praise it deserves. This movie was a great 'creature feature', and I've seen them all! I think one of the things that worked against this movie the most was that its predececcor was one of the most famous movies in american cinema history, not to mention it was the title that launched Steven Spielberg's smashing career. So how can Jaws 2 possibly live up to all of this? I honestly don't care. It's a story about a Great White shark attacking vacationers off the waters of a small picturesque town, it isn't Gone With The Wind! Besides, it's far better than most movies of this genere. Many of which [were similar to]scenes in this movie. Some obvious ones were in Deep Blue Sea. Killing a shark with an electrical cable!? Attacking a helicopter!? I've seen it before, and I enjoyed it more in Jaws 2. In short, I believe this movie served its purpose well as both a 'creature feature' and a sequel. It let us see more of the shark than we ever saw in the first movie, and answered the question as to what would happen if another great white shark ever stalked the waters of Amity Island. I am also very pleased that Univeral has finally released this movie on DVD. Visually, this movie looks just as good as its predecessor. The sound quality is great. It may not be 5.1, but at least the original sound effects haven't been replaced with inferior ones like the first Jaws DVD. As far as the extras were amazing, especially for a Jaws sequel. The 'making of' documentary was interesting and entertaining, and didn't drag on and on like the one for the first Jaws. The interviews with with John Williams and Keith Gorden were short but sweet, and offered some interesting insight regarding their experience in the making of this movie. In addition, there were also four deleted scenes in a bonus section. I found the deleted scenes in Jaws 2 to be of much better quality than the ones in Jaws. Jaws 2 even offers an additional shark sequence, or rather an extension of an existing scene, which is what most viewers probably want to see. This one involves the shark attacking a pilot trapped underwater in his helicopter. I honestly think all of the scenes should've been re-edited in the movie. I was also pleased how the trailer for the orignal Jaws was included with this DVD. Too bad there wasn't a trailer for Jaws 3 and Jaws The Revenge as well. All in all, this movie delivers as a sequel. I highly recommended this title to any Jaws fan. But to those who still buy vhs, I say don't even bother with the so called 'special edition' of this movie. Its biggest feature is a ten minute documentary. If you're really a fan of Jaws 2, you should invest your money in a DVD player, and see it the best way possible.

Summary: It Lacks Bite
Review: No Pun intended. But when you make one good movie on a Great White Shark, there is little sense in making any further stories on it, and this movie is basically almost a rehash of the first movie, only with much less effective results. Jaws 3 and 4 were pretty awful too.

Summary: An Underrated Film; Not "Godfather II" but Well-Made, Acted
Review: This film was the first sequel to the classic "Jaws" and so was inevitably compared to it. However, it is unfair to compare this to the original and not give it a chance on its own merits. I was 11 when I saw "Jaws" and 14 when I saw "Jaws 2". I knew it had been made mostly because the original was so successful, but even at 14 I wanted to see it in part at least, for what it might have to offer. I was not disappointed. Granted, it was not directed by Spielberg, but I think Jeannot Swarc did a more than competent job. Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gay and Murray Hamilton reprise their roles and give very good performances, as good as in the original film. I thought the shark effects were good. The shark does not look fake. Maybe they show the shark a little more than Spielberg did, perhaps a bit too much, but the scenes where the shark attacks are well staged and convincing. The water-skiing scene is terrifying; makes you think about skiing on the ocean! Even the much debated helicopter scene. It was well staged and it's pretty scary. I don't think it's implausible with a shark that big, but that's all I will say about that. I was not bothered by the focus being on Chief Brody's sons and their friends going out on sailboats during most of the movie's second half. What's wrong with that? There is a sort of rivalry between Murray Hamilton's son in the film, Larry Vaughn Jr, and Mike Brody that I thought was interesting and at least rings true. Larry is the rich mayor's son; Mike is the Chief of Police's son who has to work during the summer; both are young, good looking kids, interested in the same pretty girls. The scenes with the boats play into that. Ok, so maybe Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw are not here, but remember that Shaw's character was killed; Dreyfuss probably had better things to do after winning his Oscar for "Goodbye Girl", or perhaps simply wasn't interested, but I'm thinking, maybe it would be too easy to just bring the Dreyfuss character back. I think it makes at least some sense that this time Brody is on his own. At least he has some idea of what he's dealing with. As far as the "Jaws" movies that followed this one, all I can say is, if someone thinks "Jaws 2" isn't at least worth watching (and it is a lot more than just worth watching! ), you should see the other ones; (NOT!) both "Jaws III" and "Jaws 4" are awful (Michael Cane missed picking up his first Oscar in person because he was filming "Jaws 4". He was wasted in that film. He should have gone to the Oscars, finished the film, and fired his agent.). Fair warning. This may not be the "greatest sequel ever made", but like "Damien: Omen II", it is a worthy sequel to a classic film; it has a good cast, good performances, it is well made, it is entertaining, and yes, scary. As a film collector, I am more than happy to include this film in my library next to its classic predecessor.

Summary: The only good JAWS sequel
Review: I wasn't even born when the first 3 JAWS movies came out. But I rented them all at a young age and now own all of 'em. The first was the best, but is followed closely by Jaws 2. Jaws 2 is what a sequel to a great movie should be.

Summary: A very solid sequel
Review: I was only 4 when the original groundbreaking film Jaws was first released in 1975. In 1978, I was old enough to see Jaws 2. A film, that while it pales in comparison to Spielberg's classic, it's still an exciting and enjoyable action thriller. The story takes place several years later and focuses on Martin Brody's (Roy Scheider) two sons and their group of teenaged friends. The summer resort island of Amity is once again facing a threat from a great white shark. After several mysterious deaths Brody is convinced that a another shark is lurking in the waters. The Mayor and town council think otherwise. Brody's two sons and a large group of their friends take off in their sailboats and big trouble ensues. Acting alone, it's up to Brody to come to the rescue. While lacking the intial shock and surprise Jaws generated, this sequel manages to capture a couple of nice surprises. The film's big climax is geniunely exciting. Roy Scheider delivers a first rate performance. The young cast does fine as the periled day sailors. John William's score is simply terrific and in some ways better than than his music for the original. Director Jennot Szwarc does a nice job in his direction and generates enough tension and suspense to make this a worthwhile sequel. The two following sequels are best to be forgotton.

Review: This may possibly be the best horror sequel I have ever seen (and I've seen quite a few). Sure it lacks the total kick of the first one, that's partially due to no Spielberg, Dreyfuss or Shaw, but it doesn't totally lack punch. Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton reprise there roles from the first, and do just as well. This movie gave me nightmares when I first saw it, so it did it's job. Recommended.

Summary: Jaws 2:A Sequel With BITE
Review: I was only one when the original "Jaws" movie came out, but I was old enough to go see this sequel in the drive-in. It scared the hell out of me! I was afraid Jaws would come and bite me if me feet were hanging over the bed when I was sleeping. What I am getting to is that "Jaws 2" did the job a sequel should do. It entertained and scared me as much as the first one did. Roy Schneider reprised his role to perfection, and I feel that the shark was much more scarier than in the first film. I highly recommend this great sequel, but after seeing the movie you may never go into the water again...

GOOD ACTING ESPECIALLY DONNA WILKES WHO DOES A GOOD SCREAM WATCH OUT JAMIE LEE CURTIS! MOVIE IS GOOD TRUST ME. GOOD FOR A RAINY DAY ESPECIALLY. BUT AFTER U SEE THIS U MIGHT NOT WANNA GO SKIING SAILING OR SCUBADIVING. TRUST ME. CREEPY PART WHEN THE SHARK FIRST SWIMS INTO AMITY. U SEE ITS SHADOW COME UP FROM THE FOGGY WATER AT DUSK KINDA DARK. THEN THE SHADOW GETS CLEARER AND A SHARK FIN POPS UP. VERY CREEPY. RENT OR BUY THIS TIGHT MOVIE.
