Summary: Oh My God!
Review: When I was ragged off to see this movie, I wasn't exactly joyful, as I absolutely hate bloody chop-em-up movies. But as I watched, that all changed. The movie is sooo captivating! I did find myself crying, alot. This wasn't just an action movie, it goes much deeper, into the story of a man caught up in a struggle. A political, physical, and emotional sruggle. Yes, it did have some pretty bloody fight seens, so don't take your young children to see it, but they weren't as bloody as the real thing would have been, and they don't need to be either. It was truly the best movie I've ever seen, and Russell Crowe's performance has some people thinking Oscar. And did you know it was Russell's idea to have the wheat scenes, and that he wrote the little speech about missing his home? This was a great movie, and all the characters are very well done.(The evil emperor, who I've affectinately dubbed,"The Evil Sissy Boy" was terrific, and the main character, Maximus, is so well portrayed that you feel what he's feeling. I can't figure out why the critics rsjected this movie! Anyway, you take all this and add it to a handsome and heroic Russell Crowe in Gladiator's armor, and you have a clear cut winner! But decide for yourself, go see this movie! Roma Victa!

Summary: Destined to be a classic!
Review: When I watched 'The Gladiator' in the local Cinema, it left me breathless. It's 2000's first true Blockbuster that deserves the recognition as one of the best movies of all time. When the victorious Roman general Maximus, is asked to be successor of dying Emperor Marcus Aurelius, he is torn between ruling the Empire and returning to his family. Commodus, Aurelius' son, is enraged that his father picked someone else instead of him. He kills Aurelius, before Maximus can come to his own decision. Commodus assumes his father's throne and sentences Maximus and his family at home, to death. Maximus barely escapes, only to return home to find his family butchered. Through a Chronicle of events, Marcus finds himself sold into slavery and forced to become a Gladiator. His overwhelming success in the arena allows him to meet Commodus face to face and by the end of the movie, for a final showdown. The movie does get more than a little bloody, but if you push that aside you have a masterpiece. Russell Crowe takes acting to another level with his character, Maximus. The cast is superb. Today's technical genius allowed the Gladiator to appear as authentic as possible: I never realized that the Coliseum was almost completely computer generated, until I read about it. Ridley Scott did a great job directing the movie. This Gladiator has everything: Love, Action, Drama, Vengeance, and a whole lot more. It is a movie that is going to be remembered for all time.

Summary: Reflection of human being's cruelty
Review: This is a good movie. Although the event was occurred in the ancient time of Roman Empire, it reflected human beings' cruelty and greediness of power. It's a good example in the present world, too. Politics have no mercy indeed. Killing is a must. So, at that time the real life was true. Luckily we have democracy to make this world going to be fair and right.

Summary: One Of The Best Films Of 2000!
Review: I don't know if it's just me or what, but I feel 2000 has turned out to be one of the worst years for movies! Maybe it's just the choices I've made (Check my other reviews for that)but everything just seems to disappoint me. But this film changed all that. Great directing by Ridley Scott, great acting by the entire cast, but the standouts are of course, Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, who I feel should without any doubt whatsoever should be nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I truly hated his character in this film. I wanted Crowe to get his revenge, and kill him! It was that sort of intensity Phoenix brought to the role. He actually made me hate him. And for that I award him. And Connie Nielsen wasn't bad to look at either! I don't know if an Oscar nomination should come her way or not, but she did definitely bring something special to the table. Unbelieveable special effects here, definite Oscar material! Production and costume design also deserve nominations. But enough about all the Oscar talk, lets get to the movie. The story is one everyone should be able to follow and it will definitely grab your attention. I found the first battle scene a little to hard to follow. There seemed to be too much going on! It looked like the camera couldn't get everything. As the film goes on we really start to care about our "Gladiator", especially after the gruesome fate of his wife and son. We follow him (willingly) on his journey to get revenge. Along the way there are many spectacular things to see. Mainly the wonderful production and costumes designs, and great locatin sites. There's even explosive battle scenes, all of which are fill with plent of gore! So you can tell this isn't a family movie, younger childern will find these secnes hard to look at. I noticed some childern actually crying! This is a powerful, touching movie that will leave you asking for more. In time this may even become a classic. But for now it remains as one of the best films of the year! Everyone should hurry to see this modern masterpiece, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: History repeats itself
Review: While the obvious comparisons to Braveheart may be made (one man stands against empire, historical epic)I enjoyed Gladiator for very different and visceral reasons. Russel Crowe is superb as Maximus, Andalusian general for the hordes of Rome. The opening attack scenes are utterly breathtaking (similar in scope to the aforementioned Braveheart) and while not wholly historical, WHO CARES?

The movie moves at a decent pace and the supporting cast holds up (and I must admit a certain fondness to see Derek Jacoby in a toga again!). The online naysayers here seem to have missed some of the films more subtle undertones. It's much more than the apparent bloody spectacle associated with the title (though it will sate any action fans appetite as well).

All in all this is a powerful, thrilling plunge into a fictional Rome that is well worth the price.

If you like history and great movies, then here it is ladies and gentlemen G L A D I A T O R.

Summary: CROWE & REED
Review: I am still baffled by the public's embrace of this film. The Ridley Scott method of wiping away character with moody art design and a "look" has never been more apparent than in this strangley remote action thriller. Russell Crowe and Oliver Reed, in his last film performance, manage to rouse the viewer with their own smoldering personalities, certainly not because of the story, which is so far from reality as to be laughable. Nowhere in this film do you get a sense of real people; of a Roman native living his life, of the sweat and toil of life then, of the true viciousness of the gladiator battles (the SFX are distractingly disjointed; everything looks like stop-motion, or like the film got off its track); would it not have been so much more intoxicating if you cared about someone, or watched people eat or bathe or live in this astoundingly fascinating period of history? Nope, I will hold out until a creative filmmaker makes a Roman epic that uses contemporary technology to bring the sweat and tears of another age to life. This movie actually looks like it was shot on Tatooine, and what is up with that yodeling on the soundtrack? I could not wait for this movie, and I can't remember when I was more disappointed.

Summary: TERRIBLE ..
Review: Let me see.. how many times have I seen this screenplay, that run more or less like that: " You've killed my wife and my son. Now I'm very angry. I'm gonna kill you ". That's it. The only thing that changes is the scenario and the budget to shoot the film. This Gladiator is so bad, so clichezed, so stereotyphed. THey begun with a great battle scene to catch the audience's attention, then everything falls down. So unbeliavable, so historically innacurate, so brainless. I think this is what the public wants, and the producers and Ridley Scott gave that to us !
