Rating: Summary: A Movie Worth Your Time And Money Review: Well for me the movie was great from start to finish. The special effects and the actors and actress were wonderful. It was full of emotions, anger ,sadness, revenge and much more. I myself found myself crying in two parts of the movie,it takes a really good movie to get me to cry. My husband and i seen it at the theater and couldn't wait for it to come out on video. I can't say enough about this movie it would take forever. But one thing i'll say is rent it you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: An awesome movie. Review: I was really impressed. I also liked Spartacus from many years ago, but did not expect much from this film. So many people said "Just see it..." And I did. The main reason I am writing this is because I read the review from the one person who rated it two stars. I could not believe his review - he could not of seen the movie. He did in fact revenge his family - by his own hand he took the life of the most powerful person on the planet - Commidus Caesar, Emperor of Rome - shaming him in the arena with all of Rome watching him die. If that was not revenge enough, in true character he proclaimed Marcus Aurelieus' desire to have Rome be a Republic once again. This movie was great, the story was great, the actors were great. The DVD set is awesome. A must see 5 star movie.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: WOW... What a movie! The only question I had after viewing it on DVD is.. Where was the hype for this one? Maybe I missed it, but this movie was right up there with some of the best ever. It also had something most others don't... REAL story-telling. Like Titanic and Saving Private Ryan, this movie wasn't long enough. Movie's like this you want to go on and on. All this and a history lesson too!
Rating: Summary: You MUST be kidding! Review: Okay, I FINALLY got tired of all my friends telling me I had to see this movie, so we rented it over Thanksgiving holiday. What is the big deal??? Yeah, Russell Crowe looks great with muscles. Here's a tip for ya...he looked good without 'em, too, AND he seemingly could act better (Recall "LA Confidential" if you will, and the incredible performance he turned in for "The Insider"). He was sleepwalking through this film. The effects were passable...I did like the overview of the Coliseum on the first day of the Games. But beyond that...yawn. The best thing about this film was Joaquin Phoenix, who proves once again, after the dreadful "8MM", that he can shine in anything!
Rating: Summary: everyones gladiator Review: never much into the action type of movies.until, i saw gladiator, each scene was detailed. they never lost sight of what it was about. most action movies get to much in the fighting scenes. but with this movie you can understand and enjoy the plot. after seeing this movie i couldn't help thinking about for days. it moves everyone, not many movies this days can do.
Rating: Summary: Hail to Ridley Scott! A Must Have DVD. Review: Director Ridley Scott triumphs again in this modern EPIC. I need not put more into this review than to simply say this is a great film. From the openning battle in Germania to the final dual between Maximus(Crowe) and Commodus(Phoenix) in the Coliseum, this movie is an audio and visual feast on a grand scale. Like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, and Wolfgang Peterson, Ridley Scott ranks as one of my favorite directors because these gentlemen all make high quality films. They are all visionaries who are masters of using modern visual effects to tell stories which have timeless themes. Gladiator is a perfect example. Other Ridley Scott films I recommend: ALIEN, Blade Runner, Black Rain.
Rating: Summary: A little overdone... Review: A bit overdone in the dramatic sense, Gladiator does have a few good points. Doubtfull that anyone would notice the many historical inaccuracies (quite a few of them indeed), the director leans on computer imaging and an extremely hot actor (Russell Crowe). Gladiator is a good movie, the action scenes are great, and does its job of entertaining the audience.
Rating: Summary: Too much compression in one DVD Review: I know it's a great movie and everyone loves it. However, I was VERY disappointed with the quality of the DVD. 2 and a half hour movie is too small for one DVD. They compressed the movie too much into one DVD and the screen was very jerky when i played the movie. I hope they will release a new edition with double-side DVD.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie, Awesome Features Review: I don't have to tell you how great the movie is, it is likely you already saw this great epic. This DVD is the most complete piece of home video I have ever seen. It has all the audio formats you could ever want, terrific picture quality, great behind the scenes featurettes, and much much more. This dvd will keep you entertained long after you watch the feature. Of all the dvds I own Gladiator was the best bang for the buck.
Rating: Summary: A Classic Set In An Ancient Time With Modern Bonuses We Want Review: The Gladiator DVD is probably one of the best DVDs out with extras. In fact, it is so loaded with them they needed a second disc! Everyone knows what a great movie it was... but how about the bonuses? Those deleted scenes were okay. Nothing ended up on the cutting room floor that was too traumatic except for one scene where they toss Christian children into the arena. Everyone knows that it was unfair, because the lions always had the homefield advantage. The best part of the DVD bonuses is the two documentaries, one about the making of the movie, and a historical account of the real life gladiators. The historical account heavily relies on the accuracy of the movie to tell its story. We already know that Gladiator was a blockbuster in the theatre. The extras on the disc have now made it a blockbuster @ home.
