Summary: One of the Few Movies That Survived Reeves's Bad Acting
Review: Interesting premise, well executed. Of course, if you don't know about THE MATRIX by now, you've probably been living in a cave, so we don't need to get into it.However ... While it's not the end all of science fiction films, it is entertaining, thoughtful when it has to be, and, as I already said, entertaining. It does what a movie should: keeps you interested. And, it is one of the few films that has managed to survive Keanu Reeves's bad acting intact, and that says a lot.

Summary: The Matrix Must Be Seen
Review: Intoxicating. That's the word I used to describe The Matrix as I left the theater. The new science fiction cyberpunk story is a visual feast for the eyes, but it also offers some mind-bending suggestions about reality and perception. Keanu Reeves stars in this cyber-thriller as Neo, a computer programmer who has spent his life in search of the truth about a computer network known as the Matrix. As the mysterious Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne, Event Horizon) tells him, however, "No one can be told what the Matrix is." Viewers can't possibly comprehend the whole story without seeing it. In this case, seeing is very much believing. Although The Matrix uses some familiar thematic elements from science fiction, the story is told with a cinematic vision and style that makes it intense, refreshing, and incredibly compelling. In short, this is not a rehash of Reeves' 1995 cyber-disaster Johnny Mnemonic. The closest comparison I can make is last year's SF film noir, Dark City. This is good SF, pushing the boundaries and challenging our perception of the genre. Reeves is also surprisingly good. Although he has been wooden in the past (I've often referred to him as the William Shatner of our generation), I think he's very good here. Fishburne gives a powerful performance as Morpheus, cloaking himself in an air of mystery while radiating leadership and strength. Unfortunately, newcomer Carrie-Anne Moss (television's "F/X: The Series") comes off rather flat as the tough-hitting Trinity, proving once again that men who write science fiction often don't understand women well enough to write them. The special effects in The Matrix are a key element in the film, but the story is the real grabber. Even when the story seems to be taking a back seat to the special effects, they are only enhancing our understanding of Neo's world and his role in it. The visuals never become the story. Anyone who knows me well might discount this review as my usual geek-out over anything science fiction, but an informal poll of others showed a consistent favorable reaction. All I can say is, see it for yourself. If you are a fan of science fiction or action movies The Matrix is worth the trip.

Summary: This Buny lives on
Review: Is life imitating art or art imitating ...anyways this is one freaky movie. It makes you wonder if you are walking around in a dreamstate or something like that. The downloading of programs into your brain is the coolest thing maybe one day we'll be able to do that,...yeah-right,...and hell'll freeeze over the next day. The story line is very well thought out it dosen't leave anything out for us to try to piece together as far as the computers role in how they harvest humans like crops. This is definately an energizer that keeps going and going.

Summary: Stunning - It'll blow you away
Review: Is saw this movie in theatre 4 times, just because it's one of the greatest SFX-movies ever. An instant classic for it's good story and starring actors. Just sit down, turn out the lights, and be amazed by this action-movie-of-the-year. You won't be dissapointed, unless you don't like sf-action, then you should buy Disney's 'Bambi' (great too...)

Summary: People who use their brains will love this movie.
Review: Is the best acting? No. The best fighting? No. The most original idea? No. So what? How many other movies have any of these? Don't be so damn critical! The fact is that regardless of how good/bad any one of these characteristics is, their combination makes this movie the best of the year, and certianly one of my favorite of all time. This movie was not a Christian movie--thank God--but as a thinking Christian, I could certainly appreciate the many parallels of Neo's world and our own. This movie really hits on the concepts of perception, believing, hunger for truth vs. the hunger for deception, greed, and more. It provokes thought, and it kept you thinking for hours after afterwards. This is quite rare in a movie. I rarely like a movie enough to buy it, but I've already pre-ordered this DVD.

Summary: Often lost in the praise for this movie...
Review: is the exceptional sound design. Understandibly, everyone is captivated by the visual effects and the conceptual genius of this film, but The Matrix has one of the finest sound designs I have ever experienced in a film. I'm not just talking about the high quality of the sound, I'm talking more about the sheer artistry of the design itself. Instead of constantly overwhealming the viewer/listener with sheer quantity of sounds and loudness, the designers have created a highly refined, artistic soundscape that becomes a character in the film. They pick and chose the important sonic elements we need to hear in order to completely involve us moment-by-moment. The sonic perspective changes constantly. We constantly jump back and forth into the viewpoint of different characters--whichever perspective best emotionally supports the story. We go from an in-your face flurry of bullets and crashes and whooshes and explosions to, within the same scene, a sudden shift to hearing just the sound of one gun's bullets dropping on the floor from the point of view of one character. Brilliant! The film is mixed very well--with a wonderfully dimensional soundstage, great dynamics, clean and clear dialogue and fantastic panning effects. I love the moments when we "break through" various video display devices to enter a scene--the sonic detail and 3D effects are wonderful. I also enjoy the imaginative solutions for the question of what something not yet invented might sound like. It is obvious a lot of care and artistry went into the sound design, and that a rare synergy of all creative elements was achieved. Sound effects work hand in hand with visuals, dialogue and music to create a totally emersive experience--a sign that the directors considered sound an important part of the process from the very beginning.

Review: Is this the best movie ever? I think so. Before I saw this sci-fi action thiller I thought Star Wars was the best sci-fi movie but after I saw this movie Star Wars was blown away. The Matrix is more down to Earth than Star Wars because it's set on Earth but in the future.Don't get me wrong Star wars is still good. This movie isn't for the little children out there with all of its killings.So I would say its for the people who knows the diffrence between what is fake and what is real. Hope you enjoy the movie.

Summary: Just another useless trendy sci-fi movie
Review: Is this what people have for sci-fi films these days? Why does every sci-fi film made in the 1990s need to be so excessively violent, gloomy and depressing? Not to mention trendy. It's quite obvious that this movie is geared for the so-called "slacker generation". Whatever happened to films that had real quality and didn't pander to the lower common denominator? Plot? What plot? It's just a series of confusing scenes thats seem to go nowhere. Visual effects? All the effects here are simply gross, nauseating, tasteless, and disgusting. Another thing I can't stomach of this movie is Keanu Reeves. I have to admit I found him quite amusing playing a slacker teenager on those two Bill and Ted movies, but here, he just sticks his pretty face in to the camera expecting the girls to drool over him, rather than doing the actual business of acting (like he did on Bill and Ted). The Matrix had left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. I had to watch Fantastic Planet the next day to cleanse my system of The Matrix. If you want some real sci-fi, try the aforementioned Fantastic Planet, or from someone much better known, Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
