Rating: Summary: Fantastic DVD Set Review: I have almost every jiu-jitsu instructional video set on the market and this is one of the best out of them all. Cesar is a great teacher, very technical and detail oriented, which makes all the difference. You will see an immediate improvment in your gi game guarented. I am a purple belt and ill tell u, what I learned from just his basic set alone is worth the price of this whole dvd set. His breakdown of how to behave and how to pass someones guard , with the gi on, is by far the best of any video set out there. Actually I thought this set was going to be like the videos of 10 years ago with basic self defense and all but it was so much more. The only bad thing I will say about this set is that he shows you a few moves that everyone already knows like standing headlock escape but still 90% of the stuff on here i didnt know and hadnt seen anywhere else. Well worth the 60 bucks especially if you are just starting in Jiu-Jitsu. You wont be dissapointed with this set.
Rating: Summary: cesar gracie brazilian Jiu-jitsu Review: This is a must have. I have been studying BJJ for years and I pulled 5 pages of notes off of this set. These were techniques or aspects of techniques that I did not know. I use three techniques a night in class to practice and I received taps every time so far.
Rating: Summary: An excellent set Review: When I first heard about Gracie jujitsu I thought it was more like classical jujitsu. Then I saw Royce gracie in the UFC and laughed because it looked to me that he was merely doing Judo and calling it jujitsu. At the time I had Shaolin, Wing Chun and Judo under my belt so I thought I was pretty darn special and whenever someone brought up Gracie jujitsu I would scoff at them.
Then one day I saw two guys at my gym sparring, grappling on a mat. I figured I could always use the practice and asked if I could join in and this is was the beginning... (...). I'm a pretty strong guy so even when someone used better technique on me I usually muscle them and am able to beat my opponent. This time I was getting creamed and the worste part about it I didn't understand what they were doing. I asked them to explain to me but they didn't seem to want to reveal their secrets. I eventually found a Gracie school and guess what? The entire class, most white belts included, were able to make me tap out. And as I stayed in the class I saw the same thing happen again and again as new hotheads entered our class. No one got haughty with the newbies but, as with me when I first joined, they were all quickly put in their place.
But it was great. From the first day until every day after my instructor, plus the other students were very open and willing to share their knowledge. I found that, unlike every othe martial art school where they often hold back information just to seem mysterious, my Gracie instructor was willing to lay it all on the table but would explain to me that I need to focus on the basics of the art and take each step one at a time. But never was a question ignored nor a subject not dealt with.
Today I feel as if my prior training was good in many ways but Gracie jujitsu is in a class by itself.
So, forgive me for giving that little story but I wanted to try to express the Gracie method as I see it. More importantly, these DVDs stay true to the Gracie spirit in many ways and I have found them very informative, clear and enlightening. The instructor gives us move by move, alternatives and different perspectives on many aspects of the art and seems to be honestly modest in what he knows but confident enough to explain why he feels certain things work while others may not.
While non grapplers may not get as much out of this, it may still be worth watching only to get a basic understanding of what they will face if they are ever in combat with a grappler. But I think those with grappling experience will find everything they learn here mindblowing. There are another set of DVDs by Renzo Gracie and while it's probably true that Renzo is a better fighter I feel the instruction in this set is far superior but I guess that's a matter of taste.
Anyway, I hope this helped and goodluck with your training.
