Summary: The Boys are back for more Bruckheimer-induced summer fun!!
Review: Bad Boys II (along with the other Jerry Bruckheimer-produced extravaganza Pirates of the Caribbean) is the second great summer blockbuster from the master of cheap thrills. This sequel improves upon the flare of its' '95 predecessor from the opening titles on, and boy is it impressive! The production designers deserve credit for keeping tabs on what's in, because from cars to guns to gadgets to fashion, this movie is fetchingly decked out. That's a very good thing for a movie of this scale (James Bond would do well to take notes). This flick boasts, among other things, the single most spectacular car chase maybe ever, a great heroic/comedic performance by Will Smith in the role that shot him to stardom, and an onslaught of entertaining sequences in an action/comedy done right, complete with multiple exciting gunfights, chases and explosions; all things that have been missing in action films of late. If you're gonna green-light a big-budget action sequel to compete with the comic-book inspired hits of summer '03, then just go for it. That must have been what Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay were thinking while they created this thrill ride. They certainly went for it, and the result is a great over-the-top mix of modern day escapism. Laughs, thrills and gadgets galore are accompanied by an acceptably uncomplicated plot, excessive flash 'n flare, and a little gory grittiness that earns this movie its' R-rating (i.e. NOT FOR KIDS!). Hip adults and teenagers who can suspend their disbelief will find themselves enjoying a wild ride. However, those intolerant of movies like this whose soul pupose is an excuse to showcase violence, cussing, dirty humor, gorgeous scantily-clad women, pretentious style, cool cars/high tech equipment, gore and generally high-gloss tastlessness, beware this film! In fact, those people should just stay away from theaters in general until mid-late September when the ever-thoughtful, generally boring weepies they're likend to start pouring in again just in time to qualify for the always electrifying Oscar telecast early next year (Lord of the Rings notwithstanding). In other words, if you like fun, flash, humor, thrills and and abundance of pyrotechnics, don't listen to uptight critics and cynics whose main criticism of a summer movie entitled Bad Boys II is that it is "mean spirited" and "loud." Take advice and go have a good time watching witty supercops tear apart Miami (and, interestingly, Cuba) with Glocks and Ferraris. ...

Summary: Good, but not nearly as good as the first one.
Review: The first Bad Boys is one of my all-time favorites, and I was been dying to see this sequel since the moment I heard it was coming out. Maybe I built my expectations up too much, but the sequel is not nearly as good as the original.

Whereas Bad Boys I was a comedy with elements action , Bad Boys II is a bona-fide action flick, with some sporadic comedy thrown in. And the action is actually outstanding: fast, intense and relentless: the shootouts are great, the car chases are amazing, the explosions are... well, explosive. The cinematography is superb: unusual angles, slow motion shots, 360-shots, shots from the characters' perspectives etc. But the movie just is not as funny as the first one. What I loved the most about Bad Boys I, was the incessant, careless and flippant banter between Mike (Will Smith) and Marcus (Martin Lawrence) - there is barely any of that in the sequel. And it is really too bad, because the chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence is still there, it's just they weren't given that many opportunities to capitalize on it. They do all the action stuff just fine, but what a waste of their talents and chemistry it is - if I wanted mindless action for the sake of action, Van Diesel would do. There a couple of hysterical scenes, and they only leave you feeling teased and unsatisfied.

Many viewers will also find objectionable the amount of gratuitous gore in this movie, and gory it is indeed! Mike and Marcus stick their hands inside naked cadavers, body parts and limbs are flying, blood is flowing - not for the squeamish. Some of my friends, who I saw the movie with, cringed and looked away more than once. But what bothered me infinitely more than the gore is that the movie blatantly ignores the fact that Mike's and Marcus's determined pursuit after the bad guys results in scores and scores of innocent bystanders' deaths. They organize a private Armageddon on a freeway and later in a scene that I found absolutely appalling, plow in a shiny Hummer through an extremely poor Cuban village, literally driving through dozens of shacks. Little children being run over inside their houses - who gives a flying Philadelphia f***, right?

As far as acting goes, Will Smith still holds down the fort - he is spitting lines and bullets, hilarious, cool and charming at the same time. Martin Lawrence, on the other hand, with his constant high-pitched bitching and whining becomes somewhat annoying toward the end.

Overall, as long as you don't mind the gore, don't concern yourself too much with ethics and don't expect too much comedy -I Bad Boys II is definitely worth watching.

Summary: What ya gonna do? Blow stuff up thats what.
Review: Action Movies, guarantee well..action. In Todays overhyped and "seen it all" world of action movies it has taken quite alot to thrill todays audience. With the recent fad of kung-fu flicks now taking over the more traditional shoot em ups I once thought that I would never see a million dollar mansion blow up on screen again. Well Bad Boys II earns it's R rating unlike The Matrix Reloaded or T-3. It has violence up the ying yang. It has it all folks, even a small bit of corpse gore. It's over the top but it really brought back the good old R rated action movies that have gone the way of the macarena. Hopefully Hollywood will stop serving us that soft stuff and get back to what real action was once about.

As for the cast, all return for a big old movie reunion. Not a big fan of the first but this movie was enjoyable enough despite it's insane 2 1/2 hour length. Some scenes could have been seriously edited down, directors these days are far too ambitious. Will and Martin do not have that friendly on screen charisma of Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson or even Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. Instead they bicker as if this was their 5th movie together and not their second. It got real old real fast to see Martin screaming and schreeking during every action scene while Smith was cool and in control ... It was a tiresome contrast. Why not just keep it cool? Martin was very annoying.

The plot is blah blah blah the villian is completly cookie cutter. The story takes an eye widening turn and goes all the way to cuba to somehow top all of the movies previous action scenes. Why go that far? I do not know but it was still all good fun. Cut this baby down to 2 hours and you have a solid action movie with some very funny scenes. Their all back for the pay check but at least they made it worth our while to check out these bad boys as they tear up LA Grand Theft Auto Style.

Summary: Bad Boys II is the funniest sequel, so, far, this year!
Review: Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return in their roles as the mismatched narcotics officers Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey in this hit sequel to "Bad Boys". This time, they are after a esctacy dealer, played by Jordi Molla. This sequel runs near 150 minutes long, making it extremely long, but this time this sequel doesn't overdo it all the way like another sequels have done in the past. Also returning are director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, only missing this time from the producer's circle is the late Don Simpson, but it is still under the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer Films banner, which was a brilliant move indeed. Joe Pantoliano returns as Captain Howard, who gets stressed out every time that Marcus and Mike end up doing something extreme. Theresa Randle returns as Marcus' wife, Theresa. Gabrielle Union is Syd, Marcus' sister. But what Marcus doesn't know is that Syd and Mike are seeing each other. Columbia Pictures, again, the first movie's studio, is doing the sequel as well. The movie is extremely brilliant and purely smart and funny and it is better than the first one by over a mile. The music is increasingly better than the first movie's music. The story and screenplay is extremely witty and brilliant and much better than the first movie's story & screenplay. The costume and production design is extremely refreshing. The film editing is perfect. The cinematography is excellent. Go see this movie now! I mean right now!

Summary: The Best Bet For Action Fans This Summer!
Review: Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as the violently-inclined Mike Lowrey and the high-strung Marcus Burnett in Director Michael Bay's follow-up to their surprisingly good buddy-movie from the mid-nineties. Bad Boys II sees the ever-fueding partners taking on a Cuban Drug Kingpin (Excellently played by Jordi Molla). The action is fast and furious, the jokes are hilarious, and Bay seemingly destroys all of Miami and half of Cuba before it's all said and done. Where else are you going to see sexually active Rats, dismembered Russian Mobsters, and corpses with Breast implants all in the same movie....? I came into the theater with low expectations, but I was really surprised. By the time the credits rolled, I was feeling like I had just seen the best movie of 2003. I had THAT much fun. One minor quibble: The film is WAAAYYY too long for a lightweight summer popcorn flick; There were times when I thought it would never end, but considering how much fun I had along the way, that may not have been such a bad thing....

Summary: A Must See
Review: My husband and I saw it yesterday. The night before all seatings (5) at this particular theater were sold out. The adventure started at the beginning of the movie and continued throughout. I could not find a dull moment for a bathroom break. I do like adventure movies and this fit the bill. Be prepared for fun, excitement, intrigue, and adventure. I could have done without so much of the "dirty mouths" on Martin and Will, especially Martin. The movie would have been just as good without the expletives. A must see for summer.
