Summary: Superb underrated adventure movie!
Review: Zulu is one of those gems of a movie that doesn't receive as much positive attention as it should. Even though it lacks spaceships, Julia Roberts or morphing, this intense, beleiveable and cerebral offering about British troops under attack by thousands of Zulu warriors is a white knuckle ride. Terrific acting and great music only contribute to this entertaining movie. A must see!

Summary: Superb and thrilling war epic
Review: Excellent account of the famous battle when a handful of English and Welsh soldiers defended the mission station of Roake's drift against 4000 Zulus in 1879. Superb cinematography, fine acting from a great British cast, slick writng and direction and a wonderful score from John Barry provide one of the best war films of all time. The filming of the battle is not entirely accurate, (the thrilling final attack at the end never actually happened), but it avoids banal flag waving cliches and gets on with the job in thrilling style. Buy the widescreen version, watch it all in one go and marvel at the way director Cy Endfield keeps the tension on a knife edge throughout.

Review: Stirring rendering of true event at Roarke's Drift (South Africa). Outnumbered 40:1, a handfull of Welshmen led by an engineer hold off 4000 Zulus. Brilliant cinematography. Some overacting, but tolerable. Action can be confusing at times, especially as you try to follow the men around their burning compund as the fall back and reassemble. Best scene: the close quarters fighting and discipline of the British square. A classic film on heroism.

Review: This is one of the best British military films I've seen. First off the film was shot on location in Natal (South Africa). The Producer Cy Enfield is himself a Zulu War historian, so this film is true to actual events. The film has a lot of action in it ( the battle takes up nearly half the film). And the portrayal of the officers and men is remarkable. This film shows the true courage, dedication, and loyalty that most British solders had during this war, even if he didn't know exactly what he was fighting for. The battle seens are as accurate as I've ever seen. I am extremely proud to have this film in my private collection.

Summary: An great historical movie
Review: This movie is not only entertaining; but is interesting and, in it's own way, inspiring as well. It concerns an actual historical incident from the days of the British Empire and features great performances by the late Stanley Baker, who we knew little of in America, and Michael Caine in his first starring role. The "bit" players are all outstanding, particularly the "Color Sargent". The story does honor to the tradition of the British soldier and the Empire. In fact, the incident and the reactions of the British soldiers goes a long way in explaining why and how the Empire was built. The violence, while an important part of the story, becomes secondary. The ending is satisfying and strangely uplifting. A classic which has frequently been shown on the History Channel and a favorite in the military community.

Summary: Excellent historical action film
Review: This film and its companion Zulu Dawn represent two days action by portions of the Number 3 column under Lord Chelmsford during the ill-fated invasion of Zululand in 1879. These battles are covered in the book Washing of the Spears, a history of the Zulu nation. As stated in the book, the battle of Isandalwana ( Zulu Dawn ) was the worst defeat suffered by British arms against a native force, and Rorke's Drift ( Zulu ) was the greatest victory. The films and the book are great viewing and reading. The good news, the film Zulu and the book Washing of the Spears are available through Amazon. Enjoy.

Review: Zulu is action packed, and from a military persepctive shows the futility of the frontal assault. From an entertainment viewpoint, it is an action packed film and my personal favoritd. END
