Rating: Summary: NOT Ocean's 11, but good anyway Review: I wish they wouldn't try to improve on definitive versions of movies! I also wish they wouldn't remake a movie and reatin the title! I feel sad that this will replace what people think of when hear the title "Ocean's 11" as the old Rat Pack one was the best! Having said that this movie is a good film in its own right. It is so different to warrent being called something else. It was very entertaining, although I was a bit diappointed with the ease with which the money was obtained. I felt that the vault would have had many more problems that needed resolving. The DVD commentary by the stars is hopeless! It was nothing more than "Oh this is where I did this and he did that. He was great doing that. We had a great time didn't we". It was quite obvious they had nothing of real value to say. Come on guys! You were great at the (easy) acting, but leave the commentary to the director!
Rating: Summary: 11 stars? Review: Great movie, great audio commentaries by some of the lead actors, great bonus behind the scenes feature, great story anyway and great actors... what could you ask for more? Maybe actor's talent files in clips, not just written, but that's asked too much probably! It's a great buy!
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies in the past 5 years... Review: This is one of the best movies I have seen in YEARS...Everything about it is excellent...lets start with the actors... George Clooney easily passes himself off as suave mastermind Danny Ocean, playing the role with understated class and elegance. Brad Pitt takes a similar arc as Rusty, though he's slightly more dispassionate and professional than Clooney's visionary Ocean. Matt Damon is convincing as the inexperienced-but-talented pickpocket who's essential to getting in the vault. And Julia is simply Julia--glamorous and charming, a smart cookie who is being wooed by the evil, ruthless (and anal-retentive) casino mogul so elegantly portrayed by Andy Garcia. Affecting a Cockney accent and attitude, Don Cheadle's portrayal of the demolition expert is a tour de force. Carl Reiner is absolutely hilarious as Saul Bloom, an aging old-timer who comes out of retirement to infiltrate the casino as a debonair arms dealer. Elliott Gould, Bernie Mac, Scott Caan and Casey Affleck round out the cast nicely with inspired performances, especially Gould's and Mac's. Ocean's Eleven marks directors Soderbergh's departure from the serious to the seriously fun. This is one of the most stylish, most elegantly filmed movies I have ever seen. Not only are all the actors beautiful, but so are the locations, clothes and shot selections. The speed and pacing of the flick belly the movie's length; Soderbergh clearly had fun making this movie. He shot this film very intimately, often allowing the camera to stay close on the actors a tad longer than expected, which lets their personas shine through--thus their personalities draw you into the movie as much as the caper itself. It's not often you see a movie where the direction has as much wit and cleverness as the plot itself. Ocean's Eleven makes no pretense to be something other than a jaunty, cheeky, exhilarating heist movie. So while the plot's not too deep, all is forgiven considering the level of acting and direction. Like the original, Ocean's Eleven is a lark, but unlike the 1960 version, it's no throwaway; with Steven Soderbergh directing, the film is stylish and smart. I definitaly recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Fun for All! Review: If you're looking for pure fun escapism at its best and have a particular appreciation for the oppulence and glitz of Las Vegas, this movie's for you. George Clooney heads an all-star cast as the slick and debonair Danny Ocean, a man on an outrageous mission to rob three top Vegas casinos owned by Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) and to win back the heart of his former wife, Tess (Julia Roberts), who happens to be Benedict's girlfriend. Ocean's band of 11 merry men who assist in the caper are his righthand-man Rusty (Brad Pitt), pickpocket Linus (Matt Damon), explosives expert Basher (Don Cheadle), aging-but-still-able schemer Saul (Carl Reiner), mega-millionaire Reuben (Eliot Gould), among many talented others. While for some this may not stack up to the original, I found this updated version light, interesting and an all-around good time (even though Clooney and Roberts didn't have much chemistry ----> where was Ashley Judd when they needed her?). And if you're at all familiar with nowadays' teen TV hearthrobs, you'll get a chuckle out of an early scene which includes Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek), Shane West (Once & Again), Topher Grace (That 70's Show), Holly Marie Combs (Charmed), and Barry Watson (7th Heaven) being taught how to play cards by Pitt's character. Great fun, and I'd highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A gangster film of rare quality Review: Oceans Eleven is one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in quite a while. The plot is nothing especially new (obviously; it's a remake) but that does nothing to affect the quality of the film. The cinematography is often comic and always breathtaking (in a jazzy way), and never has the phrase "never a dull moment" been more appropriate. The film is jam-packed with great actors, and with the minor exception of Julia Robert's somewhat tepid acting, everyone gives a stellar performance. (Clooney and Pitt are the perfect pair of gangsters.) The film only gets more interesting (and as funny as ever) with each viewing, for those who enjoy seeing movies over and over again. And if you haven't seen it the first time yet, sit back and prepare for an utterly exhilirating ride.
Rating: Summary: George and Brad - what more could you want? Review: Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts had no chemistry in The Mexican. They don't have it here either - thank goodness they have limited contact with one another. George and Julia however - yea... the chemistry is there! George and Brad...WOW! The interacion between the two of them alone makes this film worth watching. What a fun, entertaining movie for Saturday Movie Night! The plot, while far fetched, proved to be worthwile because of the detail involved in carrying out the plan! The entire cast appear to have had a blast making this movie and it shows in the acting, the expressions, and the atmosphere. They looked they had fun and it carried well onto the screen. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and would like to be entertained - just simply entertained!
Rating: Summary: You won't be sorry. Review: Not only was the movie absolutely terrific, but the added features are absolutely entertaining. I've seldom watched the "extras" on DVDs, but Ocean's Eleven has a wonderful commentary with Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon. the result as they comment while the movie plays is insightful and special, and Brad Pitt even references MST3K, for those of you who could understand that kind of set-up. I would have to say I watch the commentary with those three about as much as I watch the movie by itself. For once you get not only a terrific movie, with terrific actors, but a nice surprise with the extras.
Rating: Summary: Clever robbery Review: Oceans Eleven is a clever robbery with an outstanding cast. Sometimes when movies become so twisted that the end isn't worth it, the movie starts to become irratating. You should be able to see what I mean when you start to see the predictablity and high cost these robbers go through to achieve their goal.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre at best. Review: George Clooney plays a great role in this story of the biggest casino heist to ever hit Las Vegas, and behind him is a cast of brilliant stars, so you would expect the movie to be a glued-to-your-seat kind of film. Not so. It has a little comedy, which is nice, but it needs tons more adventure, lots more of Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt, and it needs to have a sharper ending. Ok for a boring night out, but certainly not my pick of the week.
Rating: Summary: Must Have!!!! Review: Ocean's 11 was the best. Can you even think of a better cast. My sister loved it so much we rented it at least 3 times. So I got it for her for her birthday.
