Review: This has to be one of my favorite flicks. Ash Cambell will remind you of "duke nukem" with his little sayings throughout the movie. All together, this makes for an enjoyable, yet funny flick. The director has successfully integrated horror and comedy. Love this movie!Come get some!

Summary: Bruce Campbell's best work
Review: This flick is great. It is laugh out loud hilarious and witty one-liners and great action. While technically the 3rd in the Evil Dead series, the only thing it has in common is Ash (Campbell) and the Necronomicon. The opening credits try to tie them together but not very well (and look for the line holding Campbell in air).
Ash is tranported to medieval Europe, supposedly 14th century England although I've never seen England look like southern CA. ANyway, initially captured as an enemy spy, Ash frees himself and his fellow captives with his chainsaw and boomstick. He becomes a hero who must quest for the Necronomicon to travel beack to his time. He retrieves the book, after battling his eveil side, but raises the army of darkness who wants the book back. Ash leads his ragtag band of fighters to victory and then returns to his "world".
This bald synopsis does no justice to the rich humor and antics of this flick. THis was the first Bruce Campbell movie I saw and made me a BC fan for life. Bruce's dry wit and rugged good looks are perfect for this flick.
If you want to laugh and repeat "Gimme some sugar, baby" to your sweetheart, then get this movie.

Review: Alright, you primitive screwheads. Listen up! With Sam Raimi at the helm, Bruce Campbell starring and one liners such as, "Gimme some sugar, baby," it would have been almost impossible to make this a bad movie. As many of you probably know by now, "Army of Darkness" is the third (and hopefully not final) entry in the bizarre Evil Dead series. And while the film lacks the gore of the first "Evil Dead" and the style of the second one, the fun is still delivered in spades. Bruce Campbell returns as Ash, the bumbling S-Mart employee with a knack for dismemberment and a silver tongue for cheesy dialogue. Our hero finds himself in the middle ages where, along with the help of Arthur and his men, he battles a legion of skeletal warriors led by his polar opposite, dubbed "Evil Ash." In the midst of all the chaos, Ash romances a pretty wench named Sheila who, as luck would have it, becomes possessed by the evil dead. However, with all this going on, plot points actually take a back seat to outrageous action and slapstick comedy. While I still stand by my personal opinion of "Evil Dead 2" being the best of the series, it doesn't have the kind of laugh-out-loud humor you'd find in "Army of Darkness." For instance: DEADITE 1 : "Retreat! Retreat!" DEADITE 2: (In girly, wimpy voice) "Let's get the hell out of here! Aaah!" I rest my case... well, alright. Maybe it doesn't sound gut-bustingly funny, but it's better on screen than it is on paper. Trust me. If you're looking to watch this film to satisfy your arthouse cravings, you've come to the wrong place. But then again, who would take a movie called "Army of Darkness" seriously anyway? I own the single-disc Anchor Bay edition and the Bootleg Director's Cut on DVD. And while the quality of the Bootleg version isn't as good as the original, it's not nearly as bad as people say. Do people even know what "bootleg" means? Anyway, both versions are terrific. And after watching both of them, a lingering thought remains: How far would Raimi have gone had "Army of Darkness" not been financed by Universal? I myself find the director's cut superior (though the S-Mart finale in the original is way cooler) in that it shows what Raimi wanted to do with this project even while knowing the studio demanded R-rated material. But if he had gone back to his independent roots and shot at another NC-17, how much better would "Army of Darkness" had been? I guess we'll never know. But with all the studio shenanigans aside, "Army of Darkness" is still one of my favorite movies. After watching the entire trilogy, you're bound to want to see more of Ash turn his zombie enemies into bloody pulps. Sam and Bruce want to do another Evil Dead movie, but the studios won't allow it since "Army of Darkness" didn't do very well at the box office. However, since this film was released in 1993, the Evil Dead franchise has spawned millions of fans, so who knows? Maybe when the powers that be see how much they've made in tape and DVD sales, they'll reconsider. Hmm... kind of reminds me of a quote I heard: "First you wanna kill me, now you wanna kiss me." -*spit*- "Blow."

Summary: Bruce Campbell: from Deadite Slayer to...the King, baby!
Review: Great movie! Bruce Campbell does a great job returning as Ash in the third movie of Evil Dead. Evil Dead was great, #2 was good too, and Army of Darkness was outstanding! I suggest you get the non-bootleg edition though. I like the S-Mart "Hail to the King, Baby" ending better than the "end of the world" theme.The extra footage is kind-a boring (I can see why they cut it out), but it still rocks. If you like great BC quotes, don't buy this. The regular version has better ones ("Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun."). Anyway, the movie is funny as hell if you like semi-slapsick moments.

Summary: "Dead" On Arrival!

Just as hardcore fans of ''The Evil Dead'' were expecting ''Evil Dead II'' to continue in the same vein as the original film, so was I likewise expecting the so-called ''third'' installment ot the ''Evil Dead'' series, ''Army of Darkness,'' to follow along in the same manner of the film it's patterned after as a sequel. Unfortunately, just as ''ED2'' was a sharp departure from the first ''Evil Dead'' movie, so too was ''Army'' a major departure from ''ED2'' ...even more so. Instead of being a ''cool'' and ''fun'' kind of 'silly & goofy' like its predecessor, ''Army of Darkness'' was a ''disappointing'' and ''stupid'' kind of 'silly & goofy.' Over-saturated and over-the-top, ''Army'' failed to capture the essence of ''ED2.'' The marriage of horror and humor as used in ''ED2'' actually worked; ''Army,'' on the other hand, just goes far out of its way to become nothing other than a live-action cartoon with a horror theme -- ''The EVIL Dead'' have deteriorated into ''The Dead Stooges'' (literally AND figuratively). Although there were a few shining moments worthy of note-- such as Ash's ''boomstick''/''S-Mart'' monologue, his pithy comeback of ''Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun!'' to his sinister Deadite double, and the film's epilogue (either the original ending, which actually works better for this film, or the re-shot, 'action sequence' sell-out ending) --''Army of Darkness'' is little more than an endless run of costumed, puppeteered and stop-motion skeleton battles, the effects of which are sometimes just awesome and other times just cheesy and hokey. There is no real element of horror to be had here, and it lacks the creativity and imagination of the earlier ''Evil Dead'' films. It starts out almost half-way plausibly, right up to Ash's closing remarks in his post-pit scene monologue ... after that, it's all downhill. ''Army of Darkness'' is a brave and ambitious film project which could have actually worked much better as something else entirely all its own, but as a continuation of the ''Evil Dead II'' storyline it fails miserably. Rent before deciding to purchase outright.

Summary: Great, Fun Film.
Review: ARMY OF DARKNESS is the third film in the EVIL DEAD series. The first movie in the series, EVIL DEAD, was a strictly horror film containing a humorous moment every now and again. EVIL DEAD 2 was basically a dark comedy interlaced with a few moments of horror. ARMY OF DARKNESS is neither; it's an action/adventure flick filled with comedy and just a touch of gore. The movie begins where EVIL DEAD 2 ended: Ash has been transported to the 13th century and is surrounded by the Army of King Arthur. He is assumed to be a member of a rival army and is taken prisoner. After defeating a couple of Deadites in the pit, he is declared to be the prophecized hero who will rid the kingdom of the evil that has befallen it. However, Ash, being the befuddled hero he is, makes things worse and almost destroys any chance he has of returning home. ARMY OF DARKNESS is hilarious. It's filled with comedy and all sorts of literary and pop culture references from The Three Stooges to Gulliver's Travels to JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS to Frankenstein. I found myself laughing about every three minutes and some of the one-liners just rock: "Give me some sugar, baby" and "I'm going to cut your gizzard." Of course, this movie isn't for everyone. There are some people who would be offended and some who would see this movie as garbage. However, I see the movie as pure genius and great fun. Whatever.

Review: I'm watching it now. This movie is one of a kind. "Ash" (Bruce Cambell), is like Duke Nukem stuck in the times of knights and kings. This has to be THE BEST B-rated film I have EVER seen. I have watched it again and again and again and again.

Review: AOD is just an awesome movie. But unfortunately the extras on this disc weren't all that great. The worst part of this DVD is the "original" ending. Would have been a better disc if they included the theatrical ending as an option. If one thing this disc will make you realize why the ending was changed to cooler S Mart finale.

Summary: Some kind of classic
Review: I first saw this film as the second part of a double feature at a drive in back in 1993. I liked it at times, but I could not believe how stupid it was at other times. I had seen the first film before and was surprised at what kind of AOD was. That fall I saw Brisco County Jr. on FOX and began to realize the brilliance of Bruce Campbell. A lesser actor could not have pulled this one off. I began to see AOD on tv a lot during the mid-90's and I really began to appreciate just how funny thei film. Most horror comedies tend to fall flat because they feel the need to be all comedy in partsd and all horror in other parts, but this film integrates the two well.
The bootleg has the original negative ending (which I prefer) as well as commentary and four deleted scenes. Another review mentioned the bad quality of this film at times and that may be true, but I remember this film looking dark and grainy when I saw it at the drive in and on cable. I think the grainy look during the battle only adds to the charm because it reminds me of the way the old Harryhausen films look.

Review: the army of darkness is the best of the evil dead trilogy even
though its more of a comedy its still a quality film with some
great laughs, Ash played by Bruce Cambell is a great charcter who
really makes this film great, the film wouldnt be the same with out him. Also get the other 2 evil deads but they dont compare to
this one so make sure you see this film.
