Review: Great movie! Some of the looks Pierce gives, sends chills down my spine, and will definently send them down yours. Rene and Pierce work hand in hand, they seem to play off each other. Though, this DVD doesnt have too much in the way of special effects, it is a great movie overall. A definent buy.

Summary: Witty, Intelligent and SUPER Sexy
Review: My husband had wanted to see this version and I was not particularly looking forward to it because the first version with Steve McQueen was so plastic, vacant and "Mod." I perked up at this updated version though at the very start, beginning with the music. It was so much fun watching a HOT and seductive "old" broad in action: Rene Russo. And, likewise, watching an "old" and very sexy man fall all over himself for her: Pierce Brosnan. The beginning of the love affair on the stairs set my blood a-pumping! And, hey, so what if you can't fold a painting up into a briefcase and unfold it with no creases present. This is a movie not a "The Care You Have to Take With Old Masters' Paintings" documentary. And, lastly, I loved the movie so much I made the painting "The Son of Man" by Rene Magritte (the painting of the man in the bowler hat,) the wallpaper on my desktop.

Summary: Indulge in the luxury, and a good plot to boot.
Review: Fantastic. In some ways, it's just a glorified version of cops-and-robbers. Pierce Brosnan is superb in the role of billionaire businessman Thomas Crown, who steals a $100 million painting just for kicks. That gets investigator Rene Russo onto his trail.. and tail. But the highlight of this film is its extravagance. Private jets, fancy dinners, corner offices, weekends in the Caribbean. Crown is, in a word, stylin'. Repeated viewings seem to have a therapeutic effect on those of us who earn annually about a third of what Crown's shoes are worth.

Summary: A bit insufferable
Review: People seem to be all over the map with regard to this movie. I can only add that it's the sort of film you could watch when nothing else is at hand. I did catch some outright inaccuracies, and since "The Thomas Crown Affair" purports to be about art theft (among other things), the makers of this retread need an education. The painting that Pierce Brosnan steals is a Monet, but it does not hang in the location shown in the Metropolitan Museum. In one scene, a group of bored schoolkids is told by their teacher "it's worth a hundred million dollars," which could hardly be the case, since few Impressionist pieces have sold for that amount - and besides, this one work of Monet's is far from being a masterpiece. Another quibble I have is when Brosnan rips the painting out of its frame and jams it into a briefcase, then calmly makes off with it during the confusion of the opening scenes. We see a normal-sized briefcase, and yet the canvas is on an oversized frame. Are we supposed to believe that a hundred-year-old oil painting can just be folded to fit into a smaller case? Later, when Crown places the stolen art in a wall niche to admire it, it appears uncreased. Please. The varnish alone would have splintered after so many decades. The plot itself is problematic. If Crown is such a self-assured and wealthy man, why resort to stealing? He trashes a racing cattamaran for the thrill of getting wet, but to risk a felony arrest? The whole business with Rene Russo being over 40 and shaking her stuff is nauseating. So she looks good after a certain age. Is that a revelation? Frankly, her acting is a bit overdone. I travel and get jet-lagged, but I don't make a big production of it. Other than that, it's a clever film in spots. I just wish that the writers would follow through and make it more believeable. Another film, the awful "Entrapment," showed how Catherine Zeta-Jones' character stole a priceless Rembrandt (she mailed it using the museum's own mailroom). Now that's neat.

Summary: I will never look at dancing in the same light...
Review: Or even marble stairs for that matter... One of the most prominent remakes of the past decade, The Thomas Crown Affair, is a beautiful, magical, adventure; with Pierce Brosnan in the title role. Having catapulted into the spotlight with his appearance as James Bond; (The only one I believe that has challenged Connery's hold over the part, but it is Connery afterall and Brosnan takes a cool second.) Brosnan has successfully escaped the role, unlike some of his predecessors, with films such as 'The Thomas Crown Affair' and his latest 'The Tailor Of Panamar'. He has an ease on the screen that turns sharp when required, and is an absolute joy to watch. The 1999 version has some alterations that had to be made to the 1968 format, for the main reason that the producers wished to bring modern aspects into the film, through the story, they didn't just want to rehash the original. Thomas Crown's love of life is still ever present, through the representation of a catamaran race, a glider, and an expensive golf swing; His interest in banks has been replaced with a desire for the arts and the 1968 intense chess scene is gone, with a dance in its place and what a night! Brosnan was upset when one journalist jumped to the assumption that he used a bottom double... he said 'No, it's mine, and I'm quite proud of it!' It was also a delight to see a Kato 'Pink Panther' type character as Crown's butler, there's no fighting though, and I think it was just my mind going into overtime... it tends to stray. The opening art heist is executed by an Albanian foursome, their entrance is a very old method, that works... and their exit? Well, you'll see. But are they on their own, or do they have a backer... Indeed, a backer they have and the chase is on. Rene Russo comes into play as the insurance investigator, Catherine Banning, a resourceful woman with a wealth of worldly experience, however she gets caught up in Crown's world and is forced to make some tough decisions. Russo is great in the part, an extremely talented actress who has enjoyed many parts coupled to A-List actors. The film brings with it a pleasure to see Faye Dunaway, appear in a cameo role as Crown's psychiatrist, she is truly one of Hollywood's veteran actresses. It is a shame that Steve McQueen is not present. The soundtrack is phenomenal and one that I treasure. Sting heads it up with his version of 'Windmills Of Your Mind', along with songs from Nina Simone, Wasis Diop and Georges Fordant. Having some South American in my blood, I love the journey that the music takes me on through the course of the film. Together they are dynamite. The DVD has a wondrous opening selection screen, and an elaborate commentary with many references to the original film. The Thomas Crown Affair is a Romantic Action Adventure, but how will it all end... will they go away together, will he get caught, or as the original will their likenesses keep them apart... More importantly, will Mr Crown get away with it again... I hope so, but watch and see.

Summary: Pierce Brosnan Entrapment
Review: I see this film very similar to the movie "Entrapment" but in a One-Man-Show for Pierce Brosnan. Also this film reminds me of a TV successful Best Seller "If tomorrow comes". This film combines Pierce Brosnan charm & intelligince with the power and adventures of being a spoiled rich man who simply has everything! I would have rated this film 5 stars but because of Rene Russo I gave it 5 Stars!

Summary: Absolutely Crummy!
Review: First, what ever happened to the four Romanians that Crown presumably hired to create the diversion? Second, the police are portrayed as a bunch of idiots who do nothing but sit around and drink coffee. Third, does anyone really believe that a female insurance investigator is goint to have all of the stats on a Sikorsky helicopter right on the top of her head? Fourth, the police detective unrealistically lets Russo excape with Crown because he really doesn't give a damn about a stolen Monet? Fifth, does anyone really believe that an insurance investigator is going to seize evidence illegally? Sixth, does anyone really believe that a real-life Thomas Crown would throw everything away to run away with this?? He wouldn't even do it for a Zeta-Jones, who would be much more compelling. Don't spend the money!

Summary: Don't See Many Porcupines?
Review: The newest edition of The Thomas Crown Affair is absolutely amazing!! It mixes wonderful drama with comedy and romance. TCA involves a well-written script along with great actor chemistry. Rene Russo and Pierce Brosnan make for a stunning couple in this new rendition of The Thomas Crown Affair. Pierce adds such spice to Thomas Crown, with a style that no one could ever emulate! Rene brings a sophisticated yet wild spirit to break this so-called businessman into loving and trusting her. The two have great on-screen chemistry as well as off-screen. This movie is recommended to any "incurable romantic" out there! Go see it ASAP!

Summary: An Intriguing re-visitation of a classic
Review: Truly, in my opinion, the best movie I have seen in a long time. Pierce Brosnan's charm and flirtatious nature adds much character and vitality to the film. New variations, such as the New York bustling scene, the ritzy dinner dance party, and the romantic rendevous at Brosnan's private estate gives the movie an enchanting modern flair. Rene Russo does an an excellent job of teasing the poor Brosnan, making an attempt to play hard-to-get, while in actuality, it is her character that is the mouse and cunning Pierce is the cat. This is a great movie to watch with a close friend who can scream and delight in the plot with you!--KB

Summary: soulless nasty tripe!
Review: A totally vacuous piece of hollywood nastyness. Brosnan and Russo have about as much charisma as pieces of lettuce. Rene tries desperately to be sexy and alluring but fails dismally. Urrrggghh...the worst Hollywood has to offer. The whole thing plays like a homage to greed and emptiness - see our intrepid cardboard cut outs slumming it in luxurious appartments eating oysters and taking joyrides in Helicopters. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying I dissaprove of the greed as such but couldn't you at least have fun with it? Rent the original instead, at least that had some flair to it. Avoid!!!!!!!!!
