Rating: Summary: Hollywood screws the pooch Review: Disappointing in so many ways. The producer and director are ultimately to blame for this mediocre rendition. Leary shows an admirable degree of restraint, but Russo's sexuality is forced and unerotic, while Brosnan serves up his typical helping of 'macho affluenza.' Despite the anatomical detailing, the sex is quite uninspirational and gratuitous. Dunaway and McQueen were far more interesting, absolutely dripping with sexual charisma in the original, and no booty displayed whatsoever. Also, McQueen really knew how to play a player, and Dunaway was convincing as a sexually self-assured professional. Russo's character is a stretch at best--more disturbing is how unromantic she and Brosnan make the jet-set lifestyle appear. Weak on sophistication and international flair, this film is difficult to recommend in light of the original. Despite generous but forgivable lapses in plausibility, 'Entrapment' (Zeta-Jones and Connery) is far more satisfying and offers more bang for your buck if you like this sort of caper-romance fare.
Rating: Summary: How do you say, "AMAZING"? Review: This film was one of THE best films I have ever seen. No, It's not art. It's not Magnolia or Being John Malkovitch. But it's just beautiful. Romance. Comedy? Beauty? Action? Adventure...Everything! I really - REALLY - recommend this HIGHLY. It does not bother me to say, "ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN!"
Rating: Summary: Better than the original Review: I could never buy the idea of scruffy Steve McQueen as a suave millionaire/art thief in the original overrated film. Pierce Brosnan is perfect in the role and Rene Russo made me forget what's-her-name(Ally McDunaway? ) The remake is far superior to the original.
Rating: Summary: shocking and suspenceful Review: THIS MOVIE HAD SUSPENCE, ACTION AND ROMANCE COMBINED. IT WAS CHARMING AND VERY ADULT. THOUGH IT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH A BIT MORE TASTE, THE OVERALL EFFECT WAS SUPERB. SPARKS WERE CONSTANTLY FLYING. RUSSO WAS CONFIDENT AND VERY RISKY. BROSNAN WAS APPEALINGLY ARROGANT AND SEXY AS ALWAYS. THE PLOT WILL KEEP YOU GUESSING AND CONSTANTLY ON YOUR TOES.
Rating: Summary: Romance - Action - Scenery - Sound are Super Review: This film is one of the best DVD's I've had the pleasure of seeing. Brosnan and Russo manage to combine the right mix of tension and chemistry on both a sexual and occupational level to hold your interest to the climax. This film has everything lacking from Entrapment - believable interaction between the stars, a plot that moves along at a decent pace, and good supporting acting (Dennis Leary.) The nudity and near nudity (check out Rene Russo's dress in the dancing sequence) adds to the sexual tension, as Rene Russo chases Brosnan both sexually and professionally. The scenery is gorgeous, and the soundtrack has some wonderfully complementary music. This is one DVD worth owning, and I would even consider purchasing the soundtrack.
Rating: Summary: Awesome movie Review: Pierce Brosnan was amazing, Rene Russo looked and acted wonderfully...just a really great movie!
Rating: Summary: Thomas Crown Affair Review: Possibly the worst dialogue I've listened to in a very long time. Stereotypical characters, bad editing, I didn't make it all the way through it. Glad I rented it before I paid the price of owning the DVD. Did not have any expectations, I am not a big 007 buff. I like all genres, but this one was just not worth the effort. Think it was an attempt at boomer fantasy, even that missed the mark.
Rating: Summary: Romance, not action Review: If you see this movie for pure action, then this is not the one for you. This movie is all about ROMANCE, the action is the icing on the cake. A lot of viewers seem to view this movie as a 007 movie,& this is definitely NOT one. The whole essence of the movie is about 2 people from different backgrounds, when they first met, understood each other; the rich man playing for fun, not the money; the insurance agent working for money, not fun. In this 'cat & mouse' game, they seemed to know each other better than anyone else; hence the attraction. The rich guy could have any girl, but he loved her enough to give up his fun for her, returning the painting back to the museum. You really have to be romantic to love this movie. Again, not for the action-minded ones.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie-- Poor DVD transfer? Review: Anyone else have a problem with the disc stalling and skipping at two reproducible locations. I have a Yamaha S795 player. The disc was clean, but still had this problem. My other DVDs play perfectly. Overall, though, a superb movie-- great story. Nice ending.
Rating: Summary: Love it or hate it. Review: This seems to be a movie you either love or hate! I personally loved it. I haven't seen the orignal (I'm planning to rent it soon though.) but have heard about it. I like the way the director decided to change the theift from a bank robbery to a museum hist. The movie was a bit predictable at times but so are about every other movie out there. I really enjoyed the music and the filming. It was very colorful. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone who doesn't enjoy romance or art because this is what most of the movie is based on. The trailer to the movie was deffinatly misleading and shouln't be relied on to much. If your all ready to watch a shoot em' up, bomb blowing, action movie go watch the Matrix. Save this one for a clamer mood.
