Summary: One of the Great Adventure Scores
Review: Much can be said, and has been said, about Jerry Goldsmith's outstanding score for "The Wind and the Lion" (1975). The collaboration of director, John Milius, composer, Goldsmith, and actors, Sean Connery, Brian Kieth, John Huston, and of course Candice Bergan, is a marvel. The score captures the very spririt of the story, romance, advernture and heorism. It is, like the film, epic in proportion. The cd recording, taken from the original soundtrack, is fine, but many hoped that an additional track or two might have found their way onto the recording. Several desert tracks and a wonderful passage "Roosevelt in Yellowstone" would have been welcome, indeed. Overall, this is one of Goldsmith's best efforts, and for the listener, it is a treasure.

Summary: Cinemagraphic Perfection
Review: A great taste of what the U.S and the world were like at the turn of the century when America was emerging as a world power. Brian Keith takes over Morrocco because of the kidnap of a naturalized American citizen and propells himself to the White House. John Milius is sort of like the James Michener of the screen. One of my top 5 movies!

Summary: The greatest rip-snorting adventure of all time!
Review: Brian Keith and John Milius perfectly captured the personality of Theodore Roosevelt; the dramatic conflict between Keith's Roosevelt and Sean Connery's desert bandit is marvellously realized (especially when you consider that the two characters never meet facte to face); the battle sequences are terrific; the script is (to quote TR) "a bit blind and reckless at times" with historical facts, but who cares? "I'll see you again, Mrs. Pedicaris, when we are both like golden clouds on the wind!"

Summary: Consummate pairing of film and music!
Review: Goldsmith is the quintessential film composer! This score covers the epic span of power and personal triumph. Human drama of individual struggles played against the backdrop of action-packed forces of turn-of-the-century global powers is protrayed on film and music.

The choice of ethnic musical textures and full array of orchestral writing makes this one of the finist moments in film music listening!

Summary: Brian Keith should have won Best Supporting actor Oscar.
Review: One of my top three favorite movies, along with FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and BALLAD OF A SOLDIER. I saw it at the movies on a quiet Sunday afternoon when it first came out. I remember leaving the theater thinking I had just seen the perfect movie. Romantic in the true sense of the word. The characters were giants, heroes. The plot was riviting. There were more memorable quotes than any movie since Casablanca (#4 on my favorites list.) Brian Keith should have been nominated for and received and Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. From all I have read about Teddy Roosevelt, this was the perfect rendition.

This is the ultimate sit back, relax, forget your troubles, forget the rest of the world, just enjoy, movie.

Summary: Not good history, classic adventure
Review: If you want to know the real story, read "Practicing History" by Barbara Tuchman. Perdicaris was a man and was not an American citizen. Forget history. This is a great film, with more quotable lines than any movie in recent history. "The French and the Germans aren't going to like this."

Summary: And, yes, it really did happen....
Review: You might want to do a little more research on this. I read in a book about Roosevelt that a woman and her children WERE indeed captured and the slogan "Peticaras alive -- or Reisouli Dead" was actually used during this episode in history.
