Summary: A Bare Bones Movie That Is Abosultely Genius
Review: This movie is unbelievable and anyone that says otherwise is ignoring raw human instinct after all this is all that this movie is raw instinct. This movie is filmmaking at it's most basic in every aspect. The chorography the dialogue the soundtrack the way the actors move in the movie all just basic raw emotion the way it gets to you no thought is needed. The lighting is so good it's bad the dialogue is so cheesy it's good. If you get the DVD go to title 1 chapter 16 this might be the best few minutes of movie ever filmed. The movie so plainly puts out the idea that Maverick is a wild man that doesn't do any thing by the book. The dialogue by Kelly Mcgillis, "My review of your flight performance was right on, but I held something back I see some real genius in your flight performance Maverick, but I can't say that in that taxpayers I was afraid everyone in that taxpayers room would see right through me and I don't want them to know that I've fallen for you. Title 1 chapter 16 has the best movement of characters in a movie I've ever seen. How the character of Hollywood leans in to talk to Maverick in the class to say "gustiest move I've ever seen man" and how Maverick kind of shrugs his head. How after the class Maverick is walking a few steps ahead of Kelly Mcgillis with that cool 80's walk. How Charlie chases after Maverick in her car how those cars at the intersection perfectly stop. The way that Charlie's car comes to a skidding stop the way Maverick walks over to her car the way he takes of his sunglasses. The whole love scene that follows I mean this is art. Every film student at NYU should take a whole course in these 5 minutes of Top Gun. I mean that it so beautiful I want to shed a tear.

Summary: Every Boys Dream
Review: I feel the need...the need for cheese! Yes, Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer pull no punches in this 80's macho-fest that reigns supreme as the most-watched movie of my childhood. I'll waste no time explaining the plot here because I doubt there's a single living American who hasn't seen this movie at least once. The love story is pitiful, mainly because Kelly McGillis has the acting capacity of a sedated turtle and the soundtrack is more 80's than Jams and David Hasselhoff combined. But other than that, this movie just plain rocks! It's every (straight) little boy's dream come true and to deny that is to deny an integral part of being a male. Yeah, there's a lot of hokie stuff and maybe the dogfights are a tad unrealistic, but the overall product is quite entertaining. I know there are women out there rolling their collective eyes, so let me put it this way: movies like "Top Gun" touch men the way soap operas touch women. Got it? This movie made it into my "Top 25 Greatest War Movies of All Time" list that I hope you all check out and enjoy.

Summary: The movie is good, DVD bites.
Review: "Top Gun" is a pretty good movie. Its entertainment value more than makes up for the flaws, the lapses in realism (for one thing, there's no such thing as a Top Gun trophy). The music is good, dogfighting sequences are good. But, as usual, Paramount messed up. The movie isn't in the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, for one thing. It's closer to 1.85:1, and even then it looks like one of those early DVD hack-jobs where they just slapped a couple of black bars on a full-screen transfer and call it widescreen. So in actuality, you lose picture with this release. Also, there are zero extras, no extras at all. No commentary, no bios, no production notes, not even the obligatory trailer. And with all these drawbacks, the disc is still relatively expensive in many places. So you know what, Paramount? Thanks but no thanks. At least my video copy has that quirky little Diet Pepsi tie-in.

Summary: Script/dialouge-2 stars, acting-3 stars, Cinemaph- 4 stars
Review: The best of the best? Well, not the script. THe acting isn't that bad. Tom Cruise and Anthony Edwards could never be bested by any other duo for Mav and Goose. Same for Val and Rick Rossovich as Iceman and Slider. Great chemistry for the two teams as they verbally abuse each other while trying to vie for the honours at Top Gun. Special FX for flights and airfights are great. Kelly Mcgillis is somewhat misplaced as the roamantic interest for Tom Cruise. The rest of the cast is well placed, and so are the other bits.

Highlight: Iceman / Slider engaged against 5 (or was it 6?) Mig 28's and barely keeping away from becoming cannon fodder. Really tense.

Lowpoint: Mav trying to lure Charlie (McGillis) into lustly ventures. Bad lines.

Summary: Awesome movie - mediocre DVD
Review: The movie is terrific. The sound is spectacular.
But both the non-anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen
pictures were full of defects, which appear to me
to be from the poor quality film print that was used
to make the digital transfer. Scratches and dust
particles were more than just noticeable; they were
annoying. I love this movie and have made it part of
my collection, however if you are expecting a DVD that
you can use to show off your new home theater, you should
probably pick another.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This is one of my all-time favorites. When I saw this in the theaters, after the first two minutes I leaned over to my wife and said that it was great and already worth the admission price. I still think that.

The editing is great. The camera and special effects are great. The sound is great. The cinematography is great. The transfer to DVD is great. There seems to be a trend here.

Summary: low brow revolting
Review: The action scenes are excellent. The rest of the movie is lousy.

Maverick is a rotten character. It is his responsibility to operate a very expensive piece of government machinery in a proper manner. Instead, he breaks rules and endangers the lives of his copilots by showboating. He has an unwise affair with his superior. His attachment to the characters played by McGillis and his wingman and the chip on his shoulder concerning his dad constantly put his life in danger. He has utter disregard for his obligations and low moral character. He is a drag on the esprit de corp of his unit.

Maverick is very much like Bill Clinton. Both have tremendous talent that was undermined by bad discipline, bad character and poor decisions.

It is amazing that this movie is so popular even accounting for the excellent action scenes.

Review: top Gun is a fun movie, i really don't like plains, but the movie is cool and watch tom cruise so young is funny.
tom is so energetic, so beautiful and so young in the movie, that we get why he got such success.

Summary: My favorite Tom Cruise picture!
Review: Tom Cruise has made a lot of great movies, but "Top Gun" is the best movie he has ever created. Cruise stars Maverick, a fighter pilot, who goes to the Top Gun Naval School with his partner, Goose played wonderfully by Anthony Edwards. He falls in love with a civilian instructor, Charlie played flawlessly by Kelly McGillis. The picture and sound quality from the DVD are good, however there are no extras. I hope that someone will re-release it on the Special or Ultimate Edition with special features including the featurette or documentary, the production photos, the deleted scenes, and the commentary. If you're a Tom Cruise fan, you must buy "Top Gun", if you don't own it. An excellent movie!
