Summary: The leader!
Review: Showing how much capable of leadership he is, Mel Gibson is the great Scottish fighter who defends his homeland and people! Through really harsh conditions, after the vicious murder of his beloved woman, Mel manages to lead his people to a great victory against the english and gain back his country's great reputation! A must-see for all patriotic minds and movie fans!

Summary: Good Entertainment for your money
Review: Everyone these days seems to be a critic.

If you want to see a good flick, something that shows realistic combat in pre-gunpowder days, this is it.

I am tired of those who whine about gore and violence, if you do not like seeing blood, stick to Disney films. There are many excellent animated movies out there.

As for acting skills, again, this is a subjective criteria that I will not touch.

This movie has good settings, costumes, music and decent plot.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: I feel this movie stands out because of the excellent scenery, costumes, and filmwork, as well as the recreated battles. The film transports you back 1000 years in time to Scotland. The story and acting was great.
The movie is very long. I have watched it in sections, and I have watched it all at once. I found the movie better if you can find 3 hours to watch it through 1 time.

Summary: One of the all-time greats
Review: After "We were soldiers," this one rates as one of Mel Gibson's best movies of all time. You can almost hear the action in the battle scenes in this one. Awesome film.

Summary: Good historical movie
Review: This is a very good story,a nd a good movie. Don't imagine you know about today unless you know about the past. Mel Gibson provided the motivationa nd resources to tell the lost story of Scotland, and provide those of us who are Anglo-Saxon another glimpse of our own rich heritage, soemtimes being lost today. Good acting, great camera & effects work, and the feel of the reality it portrays.

Summary: Bring a tissue.
Review: What can you say about a movie that was nearly perfect. Right from the beginning you get a feeling for who exactly William Wallace is. Seeing how the Scots were persecuted by the English was upsetting. Even more upsetting because it happened. It's hard to understand that one person could do so much just to get freedom for his people. There's even a bit of romance in this movie for that added touch. I guarantee you'll love this movie.

Summary: Best movie, ever !!
Review: Mel Gibson delivers a stellar performance, aided by James Horner's soundtrack. Spectacular battle scenes, a semi-fictional romantic twist. Who knew history could be so interesting...

Summary: Later Plantagenets really Wallaces!!!
Review: The thing about Historical movies is that people who watch them sometimes really ARE interested in History. Go figure. And the inattention to History in the name of History seems a good reason to be frustrated with the film.

I'm not an expert on the subject, and I think I did learn a few things, and was entertained. The battle scenes are interestingly created even if there are a few romantic inaccuracies like the Irish and Scots not fighting each other. I didn't "love the tartans" as one reviewer put it, but I'm not sure they were really Tartans. And I did find the scenes of conflict and subjugation by the English soldiers, looking like so many Imperial Roman troops, of the Scots natives looking like any original British (celtic) isle natives, beaten and downtrodden by their masters, very compelling.

Patrick MacGoohan is great as the evil king Edward Longshanks. And of course, he's the real reason I got this movie in the first place. (I humbly admit to planning to employ the FF button.) Sophie Marceau, as his daughter-in-law, Princess Isabella, is stunningly beautiful. But if you know anything about her character in History, you know it's not likely she was a lover of Freedom and the masses anymore than her father-in-law was. Does it matter? Well, maybe not to you. And the portrayal of her [homosexual] husband, the future Edward II, is borderline offensive. He's the stereotypically weak and effeminate homosexual, who unlike the butch heterosexual men is actually frightened by the severed head of his relative, and is not good at, uh, fighting. Lets pray Gibson doesn't make a movie about Alexander the Great. The actor playing Robert the Bruce is very good, and there are moments of nice interplay between him and his increasingly scrofulous father who is angling to get his son the throne. But Bruce comes off kind of as a pampered noble in the grip of Machiavellian forces, whereas in actual fact Bruce may have been much rougher. You won't hear the schoolchild story about the Spider Surviving in this film. It's all about Wallace, and Wallace is all about Gibson.

There's a documentary about the making of the film on the DVD, which looked like it could have been very interesting--I wanted to hear more about lenses, but after five minutes of Mel is great. Mel is great. Mel is great," and two seconds of "You know. William Wallace was a REAL person," I had to stop watching...

Summary: Historic Struggle
Review: Braveheart is right at the top of my list of favorite Mel Gibson movies, and darn near the top of my overall favorite movies list. Mel Gibson expresses the passion of Wallace, and his determination to preserve freedom for his people. I can never watch this movie without stirring up the Scottish spirit in me, the primal unity with bagpipe and kilt. I want to let out a highland roar and march onto whatever my duties are in life, preserving truth, beauty, and liberty wherever I go.

I still don't quite understand why Gibson put that sex scene in there, though. Yes, they got married, but please keep the resultant details off the screen.

Summary: Truly great...
Review: This is just one of those movies you can watch over & over. I've seen it dozens of times and I NEVER get tired of watching it. Lots of action (and blood) plus a great story. Sure it's not entirely historically accurate, but who cares? It's beautifully shot & has great acting.
