Review: An adaptation of the life of William Wallace (Mel Gibson) and how he started the revolution to liberate Scotland. Truly a stirring movie with lots of action. Great battle scenes. Powerful dialogue. Tender romance scenes too. Once again James Horner's music (with the bagpipes) is outstanding. This movie answers the most asked question about Scotland..do the men have anything on under their kilts? Watch & find out!

Review: I love it when a period film has it all and Braveheart is one of them. It deserved it's Oscar! It has a bit of something for everyone. Any time that an actor steps into the shoes of a director and makes something as wonderful as Braveheart deserves our homages. This is one to have in any serious film buffs collection.

Review: I saw this movie more than two times before I bought it. First in the cinema, second in a PPV TV channel. Then I decided to buy it in purpose to keep it as one of my DVDs best collections.

Summary: Braveheart
Review: Mel Gibson directs and stars in this gripping epic. The first twenty minutes Mel Gibson isn't even seen. But he returns to his home village and courts a woman who he has known since being a child. Her father doesn't want William Wallace (Gibson) to court his daughter until he has proved that he wants peace but he gets married in secret anyway so the English won't know because they believe it is their right to sleep with a newly wed.
Pretty soon their short lived romance ends in tragedy.
One of the English soldiers sees Wallace's wife with Gibson and gets the idea of having her for himself and soon after tries to rape her. Wallace saves this from happening and pretty soon unfairly she pays the price for Wallace fighting the English soldiers.But Wallace makes the man pay for killing his love by doing the same thing he had done to his wife,cutting his throat.
This episode sparks a rebellion with Scottish commoners against the English king and his soldiers.
Later Wallace has an even shorter romance with the Princess of England and she warns him of traps. Unfortunately at the end Wallace, having little choice because he wanted freedom and knew him and his men couldn't do it alone, did fall into a trap. The action for wanting freedom was his undoing.
If this isn't one of the best films ever made, I don't know what is.I was lucky enough to get this DVD on special, eleven dollars off.

Summary: Almost a Classic
Review: I really want to give this movie 4 1/2 stars because when you compare it to other historical classics, it's a bit kitchy and glossy. Too over-produced. Too Hollywood.But insofar as Hollywood is going to be making historical movies for the masses, this one is a great one. Well-structured, well-told, and entertaining. The musical score, incidentally, is outrageously good.

Summary: FREEDOM, resurrected Scottish independence movement
Review: Seldom does a movie have such immediate political effects. Mel Gibson will certainly be able to walk across Scotland and never have to buy his own pint. (*grin*) a movie that will supply scenes for both your worst nightmares(as when his new bride dies) and your greatest egomaniac daydreams(as when he dies screaming FREEDOM). certainly one of the 100 best films ever made, but even more importantly a crucial addition to scottish nationalism and to the flow of testosterone in theaters everywhere (*grin*). a marvel of photographic wonders, large groups of excited scots ready to tear the brits to pieces, with music to match both elements. simply a not-to-be missed movie. just buy it and watch monthly for a lift emotional and politically. i am curious that only with the death of his new bride can the audience justify the subsequent rebellion. it is astonishing to me that we have so lost the drive for freedom ourselves that in our mythbuilding, for isn't that what movies like this are, we MUST resort to the personal and the emotional to justify violence, war even a rather righteous war of independence. i think this says far more about modern people than it does about the Scots of this timeframe.... richard williams

Summary: Wow! This an Emotional Roller Coaster!
Review: I have never seen a film quite like this one. It has romance, action, suspense and humor. In my opinion this is best type of film to watch. You quickly become involved with the characters and their lives as the film travels through the life and times of William Wallace. The characters are witty, smart, and devoted to their cause. This is a film that gives what Iwould interperate as a realistic snap shot of the place and the area as well as it's people. A word of caution should also be given to those that are not up to the graphic battle scenes. Although I can't say that I have ever seen a human killed, I don't think my estimation of how realistic the battle scenes really are is very far off. Watch out for the sound track as well. The music is hauntingly beautiful.

Review: Mel Gibson shines in this superb historical film, portraying the life of William Wallace. This is, without a doubt Mel Gibson's finest performance of them all, and his acting style is inimitable. It is a highly vivid portrayal of the heart of fierce combat, tender love, and perseverance in pursuing freedom. It is the story of the rallying of countrymen by William Wallace to fight for the cause of freedom from the British. Braveheart is an extremely well-done film that I wholeheartedly reccomend to anyone age 13 and up, due to extremely brutal medieval warfare. The main point the film is trying to make is this: Every man dies, not every man really lives. Very thought-provoking. 5 stars.

Summary: If you love the Middle ages, you will rave over this flick
Review: I have studied the Middle Ages for several years now, and I have never in my life seen a movie, or read a book, that depicts William Wallace, or Edward the Longshanks better. This movie is absolutly stunning. Your jaw will be on the floor. The battles are intense, and bloody, as they really were. Gibson first got the idea for this movie after reading the book "Robert the Bruce". I guess the time of the Bruce family and Wallace grabbed him so much that he made this movie. Yes, the movie is long, but it will pass in no time, you will wonder where the time went. From the minute the movie starts, you are awwed by the beautiful landscapes of Scotland and it was filmed so well, that you feel as if you were there. The acting is great, the costumes are great, and even the speech is great. Dont miss this wonderful movie.
