Summary: A spectacular and flawless movie
Review: Spider-Man, which grossed nearly 600 million worldwide, is a fantastic roller coaster ride. The directing and fight scenes are amazing, the villains and story are gripping, and the whole thing is a classic. It is probably the year's biggest hit and it's finally coming out on DVD! Now, you can own 2002's greatest hit. A sequel for this box-office-blockuster has been set for 2004 and just in case you missed the first, now you have a chance to not only see but own a sensational, entertaining, and fantastic hit! Tobey Maguire does a fine job as Peter Parker, the dorky high-school kid who gets bitten by a genetically enhanced spider during a science expiremement. He is amazed to discover that the bites gives him spider abilities, such as web-slinging, climbing, and having a spider-sense which warns you of danger.. However, after a deadly experiment makes Peter's best friend Harry's (James Franco) father into a sick villain called the Green Goblin, Spider-Man is forced to take on his enemy. Also featured is Kirsten Dunst, who is Peter's next door neighbor Mary Jane, the only girl that he has ever loved. The movie features many great action sequences with some great special effects and a good cast featuring Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn, the man who turns into the sadistic Green Goblin. The DVD is jam packed with features such as commentary by director Sam Raimi, actress Kirsten Dunst, producer Laura Ziskin, co-producer Grant Curtis and special effects designer John Dykstra. It also has two music videos: Hero by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback featuring Josey Scott of Saliva and What We're All About by Sum 41. It has a Making of Documentary and a historical documentary called Spider Man: The Mythology of the 21st Century. It also features gags and outtakes, costume and makeup tests, and an E! Special on Spider-Mania. Get this movie on DVD because of the special features and please buy the full-screen version. I don't understand why people like widescreen. I don't like when 1/4 of the top and bottom of my screen is cut off so they can only techinally watch "half" of the movie.

Time: 124 minutes (something like that)
Rated PG-13 for some fight sequences

Summary: doesnt live up to the hype but descent
Review: Organic webshooters, removed spidey like dialogue, and a weak version of the green goblin but hey, its got romance. This movie is a cookie cutter movie with all aspects of filmaking to try and make it appeal to the biggest consumer group possible. Sam Raimi did a descent job keeping it entertaining though. Besides the fact that spidey cant win a fight on purpose, they alwasy gonna die on "accident" this movie is a nice little adventure to get away from whatever. Just dont buy into the hype, its not that good.

Summary: Visually INTENSE
Review: Based on the comic book hero, Spider-Man is a superhero blockbuster. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is a goofy, dweebish, brainiac student who gains superhuman strength and the spider-like ability to cling to any surface and throw webs after being bitten by a genetically-altered spider on a school fieldtrip. Peter's exploration and experimentation with his new powers is hilarious. But after witnessing a crime and becoming a victim himself, he vows to use his abilities to fight crime, finally understanding the words of his beloved Uncle Ben, "With great power comes great responsibility." The greatest test comes in the form of the Green Goblin, who is the deadly alter ego of businessman/scientist Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe). Meanwhile, Peter also battles his love for the beautiful girl-next-door (literally), Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), who finds herself falling for Spider-man after he saves her life.

An excellent storyline, perfect casting, and certainly packed with action makes Spider-Man a hit. Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst both convincingly portrayed their characters. The villain, however, was cast the best with Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. Peter's best friend, Harry Osborn, is played by James Franco (TNT's James Dean and City By The Sea). Even in a smaller supporting role, Franco still has that on-screen, James Dean intensity and you can't look away. The swinging-action scenes and special effects are really great. They play like a great video game, but, guess what . . . you're in it! Even the film's intro. is visually intense and mesmerizing. I made ever effort to see this on the big-screen because I knew it would be worth it. Boy, was I right! PS-check out the movie soundtrack. It's really great.

Summary: GOTTA SEE IT!
Review: Spider-man is one of the best superhero marvel movie's I have ever saw.Okay Tobey Maguire is pretty cheesey at the beginning but does get better.I think the special effects are awsome and so real, you won't belive how they did it.This isn't like Superman 1,2,3,or4,it dosn't get slow at parts and is all action. The actors are great in this movie and not cheesey like Tobey Maguire was at the beginning. All the reviewr's say it's great,I say it's great, obviously it's good.If you like it buy it,if you haven't sean it see it while it's playing with MIB 2.You are going to love it.

Summary: Unfortunately, this movie did very little for me
Review: Not being a spiderman fan, i went into this movie expecting nothing more than 2 hours of entertainment -- what you expect from similar blockbusters. And yet, as I watched the movie from beginning to end, I was startled at how predictable and boring the plot was. (on a side note, what is with the Green Goblin's costume? Almost laughable!) And they could have done so much more with it! Tobey Maguire was Ok acting-wise, but certainly not great; Kirsten Dunst was equally mediocre; The Aunt and Uncle weren't too bad. Although, while watching it, it is interesting to note how many times the characters wear black gloves. I am embarassed that the top five U.S. box office hits ever include Titanic, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and this movie. ... I am really surprised how much this movie has been praised - I thought (contrary to what I expected) that Episode II was more entertaining. ...
However, there were a few redeeming aspects. All in all, it is an enjoyable but not *special* movie. The most disturbing thing is that there was so much potential to create a really stunning film, and what is delivered is instead adequate entertainment in the form of a summer blockbuster seemingly only concerned with making money. Hopefully the sequels will be better.

Summary: What was this
Review: Granted the first say 15 minutes of this movie was ok, but the rest has led me to label this movie one of the biggest disapointments and over praised movies ever. As a casual fan of spiderman I thought the visual effects seemed childish to the mastery of the visual art as presented in Star wars attack of the clones. Further the love story was even worse. The best movie of 2002 was not Spider Man. That honor i would humbly give to Atack of the clones or the Oedopian Minority Report.

Summary: Loads of fun!
Review: I didn't really know what to expect from this movie because I'm not a really big fan of comic books or anything, but I really loved this movie! I'll be looking forward to the next one.

Summary: Fun Fun Fun
Review: One star reviewers--I'm sorry Spiderman didn't reach the literary heights you apparently were duped into believing it would. (Are you kidding?) Perhaps the producers can resurrect T.S. Eliot to do the sequel's screenplay. Maybe you start your own review site so you and your friend(s) can share your film suffering.

I admit it.I am an old dude who read Spidey since the early days. I also have read Shakespeare. But I did not go to see artistic expression or some director/write suffering for his art. I went expecting great escapism and fun and I was not disappointed.

If self-centered artistic expression is your bag, you should watch IFC more. Now there's a channel with angst to spare. For me, I anxiously await the DVD.

Summary: Best Movie of 2001
Review: this is a movie that I would watch over and over again. There is nothing bad I can think of to say about this film. It was well writen and acted out. It's the kind of movie you can take your family, a date or see by yourself and still injoy it.
