Summary: Defective Software shipped with a limited return policy
Review: I have twice followed the install instructions for the installation of Microsoft Front Page 2002 and have not been able to even get to the point where you enter the code. The disk only allows two options, to upgrade some files or to delete some files, there is no button or option to install the upgrade software. I am an experienced PC user with a legal copy of Front Page 2000 installed. I believe that what you have shipped is a defective disk. It appears to me to be a disk that Microsoft would ship to correct some original programming problems, not a full installation upgrade disk. I know my options are limited concerning the return of otherwise acceptable software but I believe a shipped defective product should receive some other considerations. Do I have other options for the shipment of defective software?

If what I am saying is true, then there are probably thousands of this defective product on the way to consumers and you will be getting similar complaints. I will put my comments into a review on the software on your site.

Thank you,

Wes Stillwagon

Summary: Not worth the upgrade if you aren't using IIS
Review: I bought this thinking it would allow me better user management, but discovered that most of the upgraded features from FP 2000 are for IIS users only. If you're using Apache, don't bother with this upgrade.

Summary: Wanna make websites? This is the thing to use.
Review: I have read many reviews saying Microsoft FrontPage 2002 is for beginners. I admit Dreamweaver is more advanced but you can make a pretty professional looking site in this. All you need are a few graphics and you can make sites you've never dreamed of doing in about thirty minutes. Once you get to know it, you will discover that this is an amazing program. I already knew HTML before I started, but it took me days to make sites, but with this you can easily make them by just dragging the table, setting the margin, choosing the font, creating hyperlinks and typing. I love Front Page because it makes the job of making a website so much easier. Thank You!

Summary: Knowing how makes it a useful tool.
Review: FP 2002 is a good product, but you may need a little education on how to use it effectively. The help features are a little vague and the HTML is a little messy but all in all it's a good product for the price. Good for novice and intermediate users but advanced users might want to seek a more robust editor.

Summary: Greate Software for the non-Professional
Review: I have used Frontpage for years, and I must admit it is a great website design program for the non-professional. A couple years ago I started my own website design business and turned to Macromedia Dreamweaver. Although the learning curve is quite harder than Frontpage, Dreamweaver is much more powerful. I would recomend Frontpage to non-Professionals, but if you happen to be a professional, then choose Dreamweaver. Although it's more expensive, its worth the money. I have to say that they are both excelent products.

Summary: FP 2002 - Best yet, but with bugs.
Review: I've used every version of Front Page since 97 in my web development business. Miscrosoft keeps adding nice bells and whistles to the tool, and I keep using it more than I used to. Normally, I use it in conjunction with Dreamweaver. Both can do things the other can't do, and Dreamweaver has stopped ruining my Front Page code. The big surprise for me was that MS totally blew some of the DHTML functions in 2002, so I am forced to use 2000, which I keep on another computer, for those functions. The work-arounds are a pain. Not bad overall tho.

Summary: Better but worse....
Review: I was using FP Express for ages to hand edit and create pages and with wonderful success....I could DRIVE it as long as I knew the codes and tags (which are easy to learn).

FP 2000 has lots of lovely little gadgets on it which prettify a page and add some ooooo ahhhhhh things, and yes it integrates everything. YUCK! It also now writes hideously long and complicated code (takes longer to load an html file) and rewrites things (yeah the old 'user friendly bit that started all the problems with win95).

If I want to add scripts or a few lines of javascript I have to add them inside NOTEPAD and then save to stop FP really screwing it up.

Pretty, handy for newbies, quick and cute.....as long as you don't want to make pages that work and work well and load fast (which is what we are about isn't it?)

I recommend it thoroughly as a budget editor for people who just want a web page or site and want to be able to do it easily. Hey..that's where we're going....to where the ordinary person can publish pages as easy as using a word processor. That's where FP leads us.....and like it or not....Microsoft still leads the majority of the population in their computer habits.

Summary: Great Team-Based Product
Review: I am impressed with the team-based capabilities of FrontPage 2002. The software provides for the easy sharing of files between team members. It even provides a task module where team assignments can be made and reviewed.

The product interfaces neatly with Microsoft Office XP. I have had very few problems cutting and pasting files from the Office Suite to FrontPage and vice versa.

I am an old dog with conservative tastes. I cannot speak to the quality of the code the product provides, but I can tell you this. I picked up the nuisances of this product easily -- with some help from Jim Buyens' "Microsoft FrontPage: Inside Out" -- and I like the look and feel of the sights I develop. I will probably always lay-out my projects using Microsoft Project, but I appreciate that Microsoft recognizes that web site development has evolved beyond its antecedents.

Summary: Not too shabby...
Review: I don't find this version much different from the last. But either way I like them both very much!

The only thing I don't like about this version as opposed to the last is that hyperlinking takes longer... for some reason the file list takes 2 - 3x's longer than before...

Oh well...

Summary: Best FrontPage Version I've Used
Review: FrontPage 2002 is the best version of FrontPage that I have used so far, and I have used FrontPage since it was first released. FrontPage finally works seamlessly with Office, particularly Office XP. The Picture Gallery creation feature is nice because it eliminates the laborious task of setting up thumbnail graphics and aligning the page. The user only has three configurations of the Photo Gallery, more would be nice, but it works for now. FrontPage 2002 works particularly well in a team development environment, because is support the "check-in, check-out" of documents much like SharePoint and SourceSafe, which only allows one person to work on any piece of code (or page) at a time. The User Name of the last person who saved the page is also stored. If you are looking for a good WYSIWYG Web Page Editor that is without a steep learning curve, FrontPage 2002 is a good choice.
