Summary: Poor software coupled with non-existent tech support - AVOID
Review: A previous version of VirusScan came pre-loaded when I bought my PC. I thought it was time to upgrade to the latest version. After installing VS 6.0 Pro, all I got was repeated error messages about failure to locate needed DLLs. McAfee has 3 tech support options. Their Chat option locked up my PC. It took over 10 days to get a reply from their "Email Express". For a $2.95/min phone call, I finally learned that it was necessary to completely remove previous version of VirusScan before this version would run. This is not stated anywhere in the literature supplied with the product. Even after this, the software caused my PC to hang at the Win 98 screen. Tech support says there is an easy "work around" for that problem. Instead, I cleaned all McAfee and NAI products from the PC and sent this product back for a refund. I wouldn't buy anything from McAfee or NAI again. Avoid this product like the plague!!! I have since loaded Norton AntiVirus and love it.

Summary: Obnoxious, but effective
Review: Aside from the difficulty with the rebate offer, the product itself is fairly good at blocking port scan attacks, which it lets you know about constantly.
You have to educate the program what programs on your computer you grant access to the web, which if you are using the latest set of Microsoft office products (Office XP), happens alot. Frequently when logging on to the web with a dialup, various windows products cause the product to caution you there is a program trying to access the internet, which usually is the dialer.
I have gotten to the point of ignoring the products cautions, which are numerous, and taking my chances on the web.

Summary: McAfee's Reputation Ruined!
Review: I have owned McAfees virus protection for years, my employers have used it as the standard. Not with version 6. I made the mistake of not heeding the reviews here, and recommended it to someone. I spent 3 days trying to get their computer working as a result (win98 Se). At least I knew how to uninstall in this situation. Even with the 6.02 patch this locked up the computer.
I could not believe it before and find it so hard to believe even now except for the pain it has put others through. Remember that pressing F8 when booting will allow you to boot in Safe Mode, so you can use the Control Panel Add/Remove programs for you will have to UNINSTALL this to use your computer. They should never have released this version. They should do a software recall on this version and gaurantee the next is working BEFORE they release it.

Review: i just got the 6.0 pro.after about four frustrating hours,i gave up.i've installed many programs and never had this much trouble.(...).will not reboot on win98.do not waste your time like i did.
i've since installed pc-cillin 2000 and no more problems.

Summary: Disappointed in Dubuque
Review: I just purchased Virus Scan Professional 6.0 for my home computer. After installing a new hard drive, I needed to get some virus protection. Things initially SEEMED to be going well, but after running the installation and the first virus scan, my computer will not reboot. I just get frozen on the Windows screen. So far, the McAfee support has seemed pretty worthless as well. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. I may check back in when things look up...but beware! (FYI, I tried to install on a PII 266 running 98SE).

Review: I purchased this since my employer used an earlier version. It does install somewhat easily however I did get errors installing the firewall portion and had to reinsert the disk several times in an effort to repair it.
The firewall set in the filter mode allows me to connect to the Internet but will not allow me to connect to any sites. I followed the online help but this did not correct the problem.
I could not get through the online chat help. I filled out all the windows but I kept getting the all fields required default. I refused to pay for help with their product.
I will be returning this for the Norton product I have on my home PC which has never been a problem and zone alarm works as firewall perfectly fine on my home PC also.

Summary: The best protection I've found
Review: I've tested all popular antivirus products with firewall included and found McAfee VirusScan Professional just the best.
You'll find comprehensive protection and full firewall with it.Symantec is popular, but it's much more resource-eating of your PC (it will slow down like hell, especially when you turn heuristic scanner on), also takes much more disk space. When you use dial-up you can forget to download virus definition files with Symantec Norton antivirus. With McAfee upgrades and updates are fast and easy (you can set it invisible for you and always have up-to-date protection). When all options are turned on the scanner does not slow down your PC. There is also a lot of additional features you can not find with any competitor - just check it yourself. I use it for more than one year with full satisfaction and did not find any better product.

Summary: its really professional
Review: McAfee Profesional is one of the best Anti Virus currently available in the market. It is very simple to use and it scans and removes most of the latest viruses which other software cannot detect and it is very helpful in removing internet related viruses and above all the cost of this Anti Virus is also very reasonable.
