Description:

If you're looking for a cheap and easy way to effectively transfer your video to DVD, Ulead's DVD MovieFactory is a software package worth looking into. The reasonably priced DVD MovieFactory provides a user-friendly interface that lets you go from digital video (DV) to DVD, VCD, or SVCD in three easy steps.

Upon launching DVD MovieFactory, you're presented with three authoring options to choose from: capturing video, authoring menus, or burning disc images. DVD MovieFactory can capture both digital and analog video to a hard drive using any IEEE 1394 capture card. But, DVD MovieFactory works best with digital camcorders because it can create scenes based on time-code information, thus providing greater accuracy when editing and trimming video.

The Video ToolBox lets you create movies by following a simple workflow of capturing video, editing video, and exporting video. This format facilitates and expedites the video capture process and enables you to concentrate on the creative side of things. As soon as the video capture is complete, you'll need to trim, arrange, and render your video work for file output. You can also output your project in various media formats, and perform batch conversions to MPEG format on finished video clips to reduce repetitive work.

Once the files have been rendered and created, you can start creating DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs. Once again, Ulead provides an easy-to-follow wizard-type workflow that walks you through the DVD authoring process. Choose from an array of prefabricated menu templates, background images, and audio clips to create interactive scene menus for your DVD production. For greater personalization of the navigation menus, use your own images and music files. Before you burn your movies onto DVD, use the playback simulation to preview the video file and your navigation menus. DVD MovieFactory supports a number of video formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and QuickTime.

As a bonus, the Ulead Photo Express package is included with the DVD Movie Factory. This package includes a wide array of photo editing tools and photo sharing options such as e-mail and online sharing. You can even use templates to create your own CD labels and covers.

Ulead's DVD MovieFactory offers a nice DVD authoring application at a reasonable price. The easy-to-use wizard-type workflow lets you work quickly and effectively with your video content. The ability to create interactive menus and author DVDs with minimal headaches and eye-popping results make the DVD MovieFactory a bargain-basement steal. --Rich Ting
