Summary: one of the best virtual studios available
Review: b4 i write my review, let me say that it appears that many people have a wrong idea on what this product is. yes, it's somewhat like those cheesy, "fool yourself into thinking you've made music when you're merely just tweaking pre-made stuff(loops) already made by others." But it goes beyond that. It is a virtual studio with ability to create serious original works; that cheesy aspect is only the looping aspect of the software.
i guess it would be kind of pointless to state its capabilities and what the functions the software encompasses b/c the chances are, you are reading this b/c you're a novice. But let me just say that it has all that you need to create original, remix your originals or already existing songs or loops, as well as the important technical aspects such as mixing.
what's a virtual studio? what's a midi/audio sequencer? well fruityloops is a virtual studio, and its many capabilites entails all those found in the more expensive sequencers(just not as powerful and no advanced tweaking) and more. i guess a good analogy would be what fireworks is to photoshop; cut the bs and get to the point and do it all in one software.. and although fireworks is not as powerful as photoshop, it still adequately gets the job done. oh let me add that fruityloops is MOSTLY geared toward speedy music creation.. dance, hip-hop.
this is a good place to start off if you want to create your own music; it's inexpensive, fun, and though the user interface appears to be daunting initially... anyone with passion for music will overcome it in no matter of time.. thereafter, if you still hungry, you can get one of those more expensive virtual studios or sequencers such as reason, cubase, sonar, or logic.

and if my review hasn't enticed you into getting this software, then listen to computer music magazine. its pretty much the authority on computer-based music, like what the wall st journal is to wall st and finance. they gave it 10 stars, the highest rating possible, and let me add that they hardly give this.

my advice: although loop-based programs(that's pretty much all they can do) such as ACID may appear tempting to buy b/c of its ease, please realize that you're not really creating music but merely reorganizing... somewhat like reaarranging your room layout. and it makes you loop-dependent, which means you will constantly need to waste time or money looking for loops.
and though, not always.. but 90% of the acid works published i've listened to were all of techno or other similar dance genres. very original. haha. as if we don't have enough of that already.

i guess there is one benefit to acid - being able to publish to acidplanet.com. somewhat free marketing. that's ALL i use it for.

Summary: CleverJoe gives it three whopping thumbs up!
Review: Fruity Loops has been a long time fave of CleverJoe's. This superb software has evolved over the last few years from a 'cool and quirky' drum machine and electronica pattern generator into a monolithic musician's tool. Fruity Loops is very easy to use so you won't get bogged down in the software. Allowing creativity to flow freely is something that Fruity Loops has always been good at.

Fruity Loops can be used on its own as a complete package, or in combination with a digital recording program like Cakewalk, Cubase, etc. Complex songs and sweet drum loops can be created with a few clicks, and the resulting song or loop can be exported to a WAV or MP3 file, and MIDI can be exported to a standard MIDI file.

Although FL can be used as a complete, stand-alone package, it's also easy to use with other music software including Cakewalk, Cubase, etc. CleverJoe uses Fruity Loops to create the drum track beds for songs he's working on, then exports the tracks as WAV files. The WAV files are then imported into Cakewalk Pro Audio, which is his main digital recorder. Apparently FP can also be synched to external sequencers but it's very easy to simply export the file as a WAV or mp3 and then import it into another program if you want to.

There are a wide range of pro quality effects at your disposal including reverb, phaser, flanger etc. Complex mixing chains can be created with ease. It's loads of fun to just screw around and try different combinations of effects. You can get pretty freaky, which of course is one of the joys of Fruity Loops. For the record, CleverJoe likes to get freaky. For years, Fruity Loops has long been known and loved as a 'secret gem' within the electronica musician community. Today FP has become much more widely known, and the improved features of this version are truly a dream. The most complete virtual studio currently available, you will be creating wav, mp3 or midi songs or loops only minutes after launching it.

For the record, although another user mentioned that he had trouble registering his product for the lifetime upgrade, CleverJoe didn't have any trouble at all and has never heard of anyone else having trouble either. Joe found customer service to be second to none, and the legions of musicians who swear by Fruity Loops can't be wrong.

This software should definitely be included in your arsenal of music software. CleverJoe.com gives it three big thumbs up!

Summary: Been using it for three years now.
Review: Fruity Loops is by far one of the best music creation programs I have ever used. The boxed edition is somewhat limited with software contents. (I purchased the FL Pro online three years ago). I've also purchased many different plug-ins for this program as well. This program has been simple and fun to learn. From beginners to advanced musicians, I recommend this product (I also recommend going online and purchasing upgrades and plug-ins for it on the FL website.)
I have been able to plug-in my keyboard, use soundfonts, import and slice drumbeats, and many other editing tasks with it. SO BUY THIS AND ENJOY THE SIMPLE LEARNING CURVE OF FRUITY LOOPS!

Summary: A standard in drum and loop creation
Review: FruityLoops will do drum tracks and loops and do them in a flawless manner. It is a pattern based sequencer that allows for entire songs to be built by combining patterns. The same is true of complex beats, fills, musicial arrangment...pretty much anything you want to do.

Whether it is something you will enjoy working in depends on how you think musically. If you like to write using notation, forget it, you won't find that here. If you think about a song stretching out on a time line you may be better off with linear sequences but if you are groove oriented and like putting your songs together in patterns FruityLoops is a good way to achieve your goals.

Besides a number of excellent features including a boat load of samples and synthesizer generators FruityLoops can use VST instruments. This is excellent as these software instruments help vary the soundmaking capabilities you have to record with...

Try the online demo to get your feet wet. If you like what FruityLoops does you will continue to be happy, but remember, like any other composition tool it may become restrictive. That's not a problem as FruityLoops can be updated to 3.56 for free. This update allows the FruityLoops program to be a VST instrument in another program so should your needs change you still have options to upgrade and still get good use from FL3.

Summary: Loops that are fruity
Review: If your an aspiring musician and you need to make your own beats in your own style then this is what you got to have. Its user friendly and you can create good quality loops in a matter of minutes and then import these loops to your music software like cubasis, cakewalk etc and it comes out pretty well.Although the sounds are limited you can create many other sounds using the FX's.

Summary: Making the music happen
Review: When first viewed, the program seems a bit hard-to-swallow due to all the stuff you have in front of you on the screen. After I spent a couple of hours figuring out where everything was I was set to start making some beats. WOW! After converting the files into a .wav file and burning the music onto a CD I was amazed that I had created a toe-tapping, head-bobbing mix with a few clicks of my mouse. If you are a drummer, like me, you will have to take a second and visualize the beats in your head and plan them out. But, once you hit your groove, you will be in for a treat. The program is a bit unforgiving: if you make a mistake it might take you a while to get out of it. So saving regularly is a must.
