Summary: Neccessary Loops
Review: As has been said before about Screenblast Acid 4.0, the loops that come with the software aren't all that useful. In order to make useful music with Screenblast Acid 4.0, you'll need to get more loops.

There are free sources that you can get loops from. My favorite is acidplanet.com, which has 8 loops available weekly as well as a sample project file. But you really can't go deep into a certain style without a great many loops.

You could record your own, but you'll need a good sound card and Screenblast SoundForge or some other similar program in order to really make your loops sing. It also requires a great deal of patience and at least some talent.

That leaves buying loops as the neccessary step in the process. If you go to the sony web site, you will find a great many loop CDs available. The cost is approximatly $50 per CD, although there are usually a coupld available for less than $40.

Which brings us to this Expansion Pack. What's in it? Well, you'll find 3 CDs in the package. No manual. No documentation. Just 3 CDs full of loops.

The amount of data on each CD is less than buying a dedicated CD from Sony, but the cost is far less. Rather than 1 CD for $40 to $50, you get three for $30, only $10 each. Great deal.

The CDs are:

New York Dance I - 305 loops and one-shots totaling 273 MB. The CD also contains 3 sample projects giving at least some idea of what you can do with these resources.

Fast Breaks - 328 loops and one-shots totaling 228 MB. The CD also contains 2 sample projects giving at least some idea of what you can do with these resources.

Infinite Soul I - 301 loops and one-shots totaling 271 MB. The CD also contains 8 short 2 or so measure rhythm patterns which use 4 to 10 loops. By studying these "groove templates" you can see how to build up an interesting rhythm pattern.

If you want to work with any of these styles of music, you need to get this CD. While there is more data in a single dedicated CD from Sony, you will save a great deal of money buying this package, and you'll be able to create at least some good music.

Enjoy.
