Rating: Summary: Great software, crappy installation! Review: Well, Roxio has definitely done it again. They wanted an easy way for novices to experts to burn CD's or DVD's, and the did it. The inferface is really easy to learn, it's just a matter of finding the folder the file is in, clicking on it and hitting "Add". Then, once you're done adding tracks or data files, hit "Record" and it starts to burn! It comes at a cheap price if you get it at Amazon too... The 4-star reason? It would be great if Roxio would make this thing work right out of the box for XP users! I had to download two patches and fiddle with the registry (which, by the way, you should never do unless you are a professional or have professional help)... And like I said earlier: it's a great program but can be a hassle to install!
Rating: Summary: Easy CD Creator 5 Review: This product has disappointed me several times. First, ROXIO's Easy CD Creator 5 was advertised to be a complete solution to backing up my computer by using a option, "Take Two". This is advertised to make a complete "Image" of my computer and place it on a CD (burner Installed) for back-up purposes. The problem, the program hangs up my computer at times...after several months after purchase, ROXIO say's, we have problems and will no longer support this feature and recomends not using it!!!The next disappointing feature is used to record audio from a cassette or other external source. When one tries to enter a title of the music to be recorded (via Spin Doctor/SoundStream 2)the program hangs up my computer!!! Roxio support for this product is poor...and makes me think twice about other products by this producer. I have finally uninstalled Easy CD Creator 5 and will look into other products not associated with this producer.
Rating: Summary: great Review: I have had this product for over a year now and I think it is one of the best out there. You can do so many different things and it is really easy to learn.
Rating: Summary: Roxio Buggy CD Creator 5, CPU-Killer Edition... Review: Words cannot truly do justice to the feeling in your stomach when Roxio CD Creator 5 locks up your system. Let's see...when I try close this program, I have to kill it from both the Processes and Applications Tabs of my Win 2000 Task Manager. And half the time that won't do it. I've had to literally unplug my box from the wall several times. Not good. Each time I installed this product, I had to fish through the Roxio website (which is a maze) to find patches for Win 2000. This is the only burning software I've ever used that has failed to detect/recognize my CD-R drives. I submitted my issues to their online support and was never contacted--except for a survey. They wanted feedback on their technical support. Hmmm... When the program does work, it works fine. But honestly, it's not worth the headaches created when it locks up your system. Several users I've talked to have run into similar problem(s). Ever since I've removed this program from my machine, I've noticed a considerable improvement in my computer's performance. All of the burning features/options can be found in other, less-buggy burning apps. So why bother?
Rating: Summary: Not compatible with 321 Studios software! Review: If you ever plan to burn to DVD or would purchase 321 Studios products such as DVD Copy Plus or DVD X Copy, stay away from Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, or any Easy Creator products as it is not compatible. Nero 5.5 works much better and actually is compatible with all other software. If you don't want to believe me, phone 321 Studios and ask for yourself. Plus, Roxio is always leaving a little out of their product to always try to squeeze that last nickle out of their customer base to upgrade. I just bought a new Dell PC and uninstalled this program immediately. So my advice is not waste your money on this overrated, cost too much burning program when you could buy a much better burning Rom program in Nero 5.5 for less. Plus Nero 5.5 is always updating their software with the latest drivers, burning needs for DVD, etc, which is vital if you have a DVD R/RW. So if you have DVDR/RW, run away from this as fast as you can.
Rating: Summary: Do NOT buy this software for backups Review: I bought this software almost exclusively for backups. What I didn't realize is that after I downloaded the patch for XP Home Edition so the package would work on my machine, the Take Two application was removed! In fact, now Roxio doesn't support it on any platform. I guess I'll still keep it, in case I want to make music CD's (I don't currently), but for data backups it's useless.
Rating: Summary: Easy CD creator Used to be Review: This software usded to be the easiest and best cd burning software available. Since the changes for Windows XP, many features have simply been removed and not replaced. That is not the way to update software. In particular, the Take Two backup software was incompatible with XP, so Roxio simply eliminated backup software. The worst, though,is their customer support. They send e-mail alerting you that updates are available for the brand new version, designed for XP, then at the site are vague about whether it is necessary. Inqueries to Roxio return the following: if your cd burner seems to be working OK, don't bother with the updates. I prefer a company that at least seems to know what they are doing.
Rating: Summary: Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum Review: I am using windows 98SE. Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum truly is an easy program to use. It also offers a lot of extras. I've been a user of Platinum for about a year and a half. I did experence problems in the past, but later found out that the problems were not with the Roxie program but with the computer itself.
Rating: Summary: Sorry I Bought This Review: Sorry, but this software works poorly with Windows XP (1 gHz Pentium3, 512 mb RAM). Copying a CD, it trashes the blank nearly half the time, even at 2X speed, nothing else running. If CD has 9 tracks or more, it reads 9th and succeeding tracks about 1/4 speed. I defrag often. Upgrades are of no help. Poor customer support. Also had trouble when using Windows me. Review of their web site shows other customers having many problems also; fixes often not available even for persisting problems.
Rating: Summary: Great Product Review: Installed in XP without a hitch and works great. I have tried Nero and it does not hold a candle to Easy CD Creator. One of the better software investments I have made. Version 6 will be released in March 2003 so you might want to wait to get the new features like SVCD and DVD support.
