Summary: When You Care Enough to Write the Very Best
Review: If your CD writer came with the free version of Adaptec's EZ CD Creator 4.0 you really do want to upgrade to this package. Even if it didn't, this is one of the best back-up/writer software packages I've seen.

First of all, it works with an immense number of CD writers. I have tried several packages which have very limited lists of supported machines. This can be very frustrating. Adaptec is one of the most long-lived companies in the market place and Roxio is their new software branch. Lots of experience -- very reliable.

The backup software is quite sensible. It offers complete backup and restore facilities AND will write out the backup in appropriately size untis so that even if your CD writer is not directly supported you can parcel out the backup and then write the sub files out. Notice this means that it will also work with sip drives, jazz drives, etc.

My CD writer is a brand new Yamaha 2100EZ, which I absolutely love. One of it's nice features is that it can write CD's at 16x. However, the 4.0 version of EZ CD Writer didn't handle this speed very well. This new version does everything perfectly. I can write a CD in as little as 4 minutes (big grin). I am throwing out my erratic, cluncky, time consuming tape drive right now.

This software also comes with uncountable features for writing music CD's as well. It includes software for cleaning up audio input before writing the analog to disk. And there's a whole CD of free stuff as well.

If you want media writing facilities that make your system run it's best, this is well worth the price of admission.

Summary: Will Not Load onto XP
Review: Despite many attempts and a complete reinstall of Windows XP, my XP machine refused to load Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, rendering the progam disc and all update discs useless.

Probably if you already had the program running in a 98 environment and then upgraded to XP you could keep it running with patches and updates. So take statements by resellers that they provide update discs with a grain of salt. If you cannot install the primary program, the update disc is of no use.

The program is a good one but you have to run it on a 98 machine.

Summary: one flaw
Review: I'm actually quite satisfied with this software, except...

"DirectCD" (thier drag & drop feature) is buggy. I have CD Creator 4 on my old desktop and recently bought a laptop with CD Creator 5 pre-installed. Of course, the two versions are compatible when it comes to "burned" files, but all the files I had temorarily stored on a "Direct CD" disk were simply ERASED when I tried to access them on the new version!!!

I've painfully learned my lesson and will never trust Direct CD for anything important again. You should burn all your files on rewritable CDs to make sure they're cross compatible and don't get lost!

Summary: All you need!
Review: I probably wouldn't even bother to rate this product; Instead, tossing it aside and foraging for a new, more capable product. But the simple fact that I had to plop down about $100 for this useless product makes me angry enough to write a review.

So, if nothing else, I hope my review affects some of your decision making and you opt not to buy this product.

One of the big selling points on the box, for me, was the Take Two program. Only to realize, in order to use this software on my XP machine, I had to download an update that removes the Take Two program. So, an already overpriced product just became less valuable.

I decided to go ahead and keep the product and use it for the cd burning qualities, but really, you can find a software package for a quarter of the price that will burn mp3's and wave files for you. At the same time, most of these lower priced programs will convert mp3 to wave and vise versa.

As of right now I'm using cheaper products to do my burning and file converting and they take up less room on my hard drive, at the same time, using less RAM. Also, I might add, that these programs seem not to crash at all, whereas CD Creator would frequently crash.

So, shop around, try demos out, but do not buy this product. It is an overpriced, fairly ineffective, pain in the a**.
Support is terrible and you'll only be giving your money to a huge company that cares very little to make a worthwhile program.

Good luck
