Rating: Summary: Worked great for me, but I downloaded updates first Review: So far I've not had any trouble with this software, and I've tried as many features on it as my computer will allow. I have an IBM Aptiva 2270 with an external CenDyne CD-R/RW drive connected to a USB port and my operating system is Windows 98 SE. For all the people who gave this product bad reviews, I wonder how many actually read the "readme" files that came with the software, or checked for updates on the website before using it for the FIRST time. I can't make a judgment on Windows 2000, but I CAN say that it is always ESSENTIAL that you read these documents and check for updates before using ANY software, not just this one. When I put this software on my computer, I immediately checked for updates after installing but before running, and so far I've not had any trouble with it. One thing for sure, its a LOT better than the Nero software that came bundled with my CD drive. When I used Nero, I could not make audio CDs that played in regular stereos, but this software accomplished that task just fine. The CDs I made even work in the car player, and I've tried both CD-R and CD-RW discs. Data transfer has also worked marvelously...I copied a game CD purely for testing purposes (and destroyed it immediately after testing), and found no problems at all. Saving files to CDs has also worked fine...they still read well after 2 weeks. So all I can say is, make sure you read all the documents, update before you run it for the first time, and you should be fine with this software in Win 98.
Rating: Summary: Worse Than Useless Review: This was my worst ever software purchase. It simply didn't work on my Windows 2000 setup and caused serious problems which I'm still struggling to rectify. I spent an hour on long distance waiting for tech support from Roxio, who never answered. When I reached their corporate office they told me they knew of the problem and couldn't solve it. Then they were reluctant to refund the purchase price and wanted me to pay return shipping costs. (Amazon.com took care of the refund issue.) A great shame because there's a real need for good audio software. This product doesn't even deserve one star, it is worse than useless.
Rating: Summary: What about on the fly recording Review: This software does not record on the fly. The full image is always created even on U2W SCSI HDD ! Last time for 74min cd it requested over 1GB temp space it is not even a beta software, great many bugs DO NOT BUY THAT PRODUCT, you'll be sorry if you do ;-(
Rating: Summary: Avoid with Windows 2000 Review: This program trashed my registry, and would not run at all. I've tried all updates and recommendations on the Roxio site, and have had no luck.Buy something useful like Nero Burning if you want software that works with Windows 2000. I would give this product a -5 if I could, since it claims to work with Windows 2000, and most certainly does not work with my installation.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy it if you value your computer Review: This product is better than a virus for trashing your system. I was running Windows 2000 (with SP1) and loaded this. After I loaded it, I did not restart my computer, but used the software to create a CD, which it did. When I rebooted I could only get halfway through the Win2k spash screen when the whole system locked up. I did a hard restart and the same thing happened. I could not get back to my system so I had to reformat my hard disk and reinstall win2k. I got Win2k up and running again and in a fit of stupidity/curiousity I reinstalled Easy CD Creator 5 Platnium and the patch from Roxio which supposedly corrects this problem, with the exact same lockup result. I am in the process of reinstalling Win2k now, but this product is sitting with my piles of old AOL disks, never to be used. Unless you like testing software, don't buy this product (and don't let anyone give it to you for free).
Rating: Summary: All Looks, No Go Review: I purchased Easy CD Creator 5.0 for my Win2K laptop. I had favorable experiences with a previous version of Easy CD Creator (v4 when the company was called Adaptec). Version 5 is not an improvement. Roxio has put a new, glitzy, graphical interface on a poor piece of software. I have had numerous problems with the CD copying process. Then I downloaded the 5.01 version upgrade/patch from the roxio web site. The patch did a job on my boot files resulting in a blue-screen-of-death with the message that that my ntoskernel.exe was no longer operable. Thank goodness for the Last Known Good Configuration option in Win2K. After several attempts at repairing the damage, I ended up rebuilding Win2K on my C: partion. Since then I (like a fool) have tried to reinstall Easy CD Creator 5.0. It will not install. The Install Wizard starts up and then nothing happens. It just quietly stops doing anything. It appears that I am now the proud owner of a $70+, shiny, small frisbee. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT
Rating: Summary: Customer Service anyone? Review: I purchased version 4.0 of this software and loved it. About seven months ago I purchased a new Sony external fire-wire CDRW that wasn't supported by 4.0. When 5.0 came out I was excited to get the software but surprised that my burner wasn't on the list of supported devices. I wrote the appropriate email a message asking if or when my drive would be supported and recieved an automated response about my message being handled in the order it was recieved. A month later I again wrote them and stated I hadn't received an answer. Two weeks later I'm here on Amazon giving the product a bad review because I still haven't received a response. Just a message stating that my drive isn't supported and not expected to be supported in the near future would have been fine. If you are thinking of getting this product, be sure to check the web page to be sure your drive is compatible with the software.. and don't expect customer service/support....
Rating: Summary: Bloated, poorly tested software with clunky user interface Review: I am using Win98SE on a PIII800 with a HP9510 CDR drive and Creative 52x CD drive. I had been burning mostly audio CDs using the HP software that came bundled with my CDR drive with good success. I decided to buy a more full featured package to get more control over the burning process. Based on the strong reputation of Easy CD Creator's previous versions I purchased ECDC5 assuming it would be a great product. Not quite. First off the user interface is overly stylized to the point of being annoying. It attempts provide a useful front end to all the programs offered by the package but instead looks like a mess. Second there are inconsistancies between the programs, SoundStream uses a different method to preview audio tracks than Easy CD does which on my machine means one works and the other dosent. Third in an effort to be user friendly they have dumbed down the user interfaces for the programs significantly. Going into the options sections for Soundstream and Easy CD provides few options of value. Fourth, bugs. The discopy program would sit and try to access my empty CD drive for 20 seconds for some reason and then eject the tray regularily. Both Easy CD and SoundStream would fail to recognize a audio CD in my CD drive while other programs had no problem. Using disc at once and making a image file, the discopy program still made a audio CD copy with so many errors it was unbelievable. All and all, ECDC5 was disappointing enough that after one day I uninstalled it and returned to my retailer who was good enough to give me a refund for this turkey. On a happier note I have downloaded the full featured 30 day Nero demo (www.nero.com) and have been using it with good results. My initial usage has shown Nero to be a small, robust, full featured program for burning audio and data CDs with a powerful user interface that accomodates both beginners and experts.

Rating: Summary: Don't even go there.. Review: If you're considering purchasing this software to burn data or audio CD's, pass this one buy..Don't even go there!! I was faced with nothing but frustration as I attempted to burn a few audio CD's as favor to a good friend. She was very excited when I gave them to her and couldn't wait to listen to them in her car stereo while she drove home. That evening, I received a phone call from her telling me that NONE of them would play. I told her that was ridiculous because I "finalized" each one specifically so she could enjoy them in her car!!! When she gave them back, they wouldn't play in my computer's CDRom drive either!! It was evident something did, in fact, burn to the CD but nothing would play. It was a tremendous waste of time!! There is nothing but flaws in this package of software..!!! Although it has a very user friendly interface and appears easy to use, even when you're told you've successfully accomplished burning your CD, Lo and Behold, you HAVEN'T..!! I've had this happen to countless CD's with the same results each time!! Even when I downloaded the patch, it was a useless attempt at a solution. If you have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4, stick with that..!! It's a better product and produces quality recordings for both data and audio.. I'm uninstalling version 5 and reverting back to my faithful version 4..Roxio/Adaptec really created a lemon with this package..!! It was a sour experience for me..!!
