Rating: Summary: Win2000 Patches don't always work Review: I've used EasyCD Creator and DirectCD from Adaptec/Roxio for the past 4 years. This product is horrble compared to the previous versions. True, you do have to install the patches to go from V5.0 to V5.01 to get around most system hangs. But, this doesn't always fix the problems or bugs.Bug#1 involves the Project selctor and your video card. IF you run an ATI Radeon 64MBDDR card as I do, I bet you can't see all of the windowed application and you have to shut the program down via a left click in the task bar. Roxio admits to having problems with "certain" high end video cards and promises a fix in the future. Their advice: re-install DirectX8.0 and then your video drivers. Didn't work (even with the latest and gratest ATI drivers and DirectX). Bug#2 The EasyCD Creator/DirectCD program for creating data CD's consistently crashes. The problem seems to be if you are writing CD's greater than 650MB. For some unknown reason, the program will crash and you have to use the Task Manager to kill the process when it reaches the ewnd of the CD and attempts to close the session. It acts like an old Win98 out of memory error, when the program just refuses to respond. Memory is not an issue: I have 512MB PC-133 SDRAM. If it needs that much memory to do it's job, then we are all in trouble....
Rating: Summary: The Worst of All Their Products Review: This is the worst update to this Product Ever. The new Online name database Is Either always Down or Doesn't Recognize Some albums. They should fix the legal troubles they have with cddb and return to using Them. The new gui is also awful no way of expanding and no way of modifying. Comparing it to Ver 4 is a Misjustice THe only problem ver 4 has Now is that it now longer has naming access it's been that way for over two months and this Company has yet to address the issue.
Rating: Summary: Not impressed Review: I had version 3.5c prior to this one and did not have any problems with it. Now that I have the 5.0 Platinum edition I don't seem to be able to perform a two drive copy. I always have to save the CD to my hard drive first. I have ruined 4 CD-R's trying to get it to work. There are no new drivers or firmware available for either of my drives and the previous Easy CD Creator version seemed to work fine. Although Roxio answered all my e-mails promptly, I still have not been able to get the new version fixed. I think they have a form letter that they send to everyone who complains of having problems. They should get the problems fixed and send out a fix disk to all the people that bought and registered Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum. The program over all is easy to use if you can ignore/work around the problems. As a rule software manufacturers can not test the software on every configuration or type of computer. This is what the customer is for.
Rating: Summary: My computer became unbootable!! Review: After installing Easy CD Creator 5.0 on my Windows 2000 system I could not boot the computer. I had to reinstall Windows and all of my software. This wasted at least a whole day of my time.
Rating: Summary: If It Were A Tire Ford Would Stop Using It! Review: And Roxio would be FORCED to recall it! Save yourself some grief and don't even consider this product.
Rating: Summary: Great Prouct if u have 95 or 98 Review: I just bought the Easy CDc creator 5 product. It worked great for me. I have a windows 95. I can copy CD's or make a mix from various cd's. But the only bad thing is when I try to burn MP3's it only records 30 seconds of them??? N E 1 Know Y? But it works fine for data and video cd's other wise a great product for ur new CD burner. But if u have windows 2000 I hear it dosent work so.... thats bad. but windows 95 & 98 it works perfectly!!!!
Rating: Summary: Win 2000 - No Way Review: Roxio needs to go back to the reasearch lab to work out the bugs in the Win 2000 environment. I find the severity of the bugs to be unexceptable. The patches they have given are just that, patches. Roxio needs to take a hard look at what they advertise as Win 2000 compatible and do a better job of testing before releasing the product.
Rating: Summary: Flaky install under Windows 2000. Review: I have had and used Easy CD Creator 4 Deluxe for many months without a problem. So, when Roxio contacted me to buy Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, I did so without hesitation. Little did I know what I was in for. The install of the software went very well. However, when the system restarted, the first thing I was told was that Direct CD couldn't find a supported CD-RW. I had double-checked the web site to make sure that my CD-RW was supported before I bought the software. Of course, I couldn't imagine why Roxio wouldn't support my CD-RW after supporting it in version 4 of the software. I noticed when I was on Roxio's web site that there was a patch specifically for Windows 2000 and one for the CD Creator software itself. I followed the instructions to apply the patches to the letter. The Windows 2000 patch installed without a hitch. However, when I attempted to install the CD Creator patch, I was told that no valid Roxio product had been previously installed. Oh, and last but not least, when I attempted to open the CD Creator software, it gives me a non-descript error "Cannot Create Creator". Of course, at this point I completely uninstalled version 5 and re-installed version 4 and it(version 4) again installed without a hitch and works great! I don't know what you did in version 5 Roxio, but it sure doesn't like Windows 2000(Upgraded from Windows 98).
Rating: Summary: Limitations of Spin Doctor component Review: One of the main reasons I bought this is that the Spin Doctor component was advertised with the ability to eliminate pops, scratches, and other vinyl-recording noise, and to automatically split tracks at a gap in the sound. Turns out that only works for analog sources, such as your sound card. If you have a track already on CD originally from an analog source, Spin Doctor is useless for post-processing. I contacted tech support and at least they confirmed up front that this was the case, instead of sending me on wild goose chases. The "bundled" products, such as Spin Doctor and the WAV editing tool, I found in general to be not well integrated into the main product. It's more like a bunch of separately developed products all glued together with a menu instead of a ground-up integrated tool.
Rating: Summary: Easy CD Creator 5 & Wiindows 2000 = bad mix Review: I had a ton of problems with the software generating errors under a Windows 2000 environment. I switched back to version 4 with absolutely no problems. Download all the updates and patches you want, however, it still will not like Windows 2000.
