Rating: Summary: Love this product. Review: I have used several CD writer programs and this one is by far the best to use. My most recent experience was a new CDRW that was not yet supported by the out-of-the-box software package but the makers of CDCREATOR already had the patch on their website at ROXIO. After a quick download my software was supporting my new CDRW with no problems.
Rating: Summary: They all told me so. Review: I just received this product yesterday and spent last evening trying to get it to work properly. My purpose for using this software is primarily to create slide shows of JPEG images that are self-running on CD-Rom. Creating music CDs is secondary to me at this point. Before I purchased the software, I read a good number of the reviews posted here, so I was forewarned.Well, the other reviewers weren't lying. I had a lot of difficulty trying to get my images burned on a CD and then to create a slide show with Photo Relay. My PC crashed 3 times in the process. There were not any step-by-step instructions on how create the photo album and slide show in the documentation. I was referred to the Roxio website - which kept freezing up on me. There also did not seem to be a way to specify that I wanted to create the album/slide show on the CD rather than on one of my hard drives. In the end, I was able to jury-rig a way to do what I wanted by using DirectCD (included in the software). Once I treated my CD burner as another drive, I was able to transfer the files and create the album/slide show. I tested the resulting CD on my office computer to see if the slide show would run on its own and it worked fine. I am now trying to figure out how to do this the "correct" way using PhotoRelay without Direct CD. Since this is the only software I have been able to find that allows me to create the kind of slide shows I want, it looks like I am stuck with it. Good luck future buyers!
Rating: Summary: Cd-creator platinum v5.0 Review: As an owner of versions 3 & 4 my first two attempts with the new title version 5.0 was unsuccessful because of the difficulty I had establishing copy speed of my two cdrw's resulting in ruining two discs. The buttons are pretty but this version is not as user friendly (simple) to use. I still do not know how to format a disc for backup purposes as I did in the past.
Rating: Summary: Warning: This software will destroy Windows 2000! Review: I bought this software because I had used ECDC Pro version 4. But version 4 will not install if Internet Explorer 4 is not present - even if IE 5 is installed. That was bad enough, but the fix on the Roxio site did nothing - it was a registry entry that didn't have anything to do with the problem. I upgrade to 5 only to find that ECDC 5 seems to be designed primarily to cause blue screens in Windows 2000. I didn't need to pay $99 up front for that kind of feature, so I thought I'd uninstall and return it. I had tried installing it on two PCs, following the instructions on Roxio's site. I uninstalled it from both, and now both are unable to boot. If you have Windows 2000, make sure you have another form of backup before you chance this dog!
Rating: Summary: Do not use with Windows 2000 Review: I have used Easy CD Creator from its introduction up to version 4. I bought a new CDRW that came with version 4.01 for my laptop, and it would not install in Windows 2000 because it *required* Internet Explorer 4.0. I had IE 5, so it should have worked, but they bungled their installation script so it would not install. Roxio's web site had a fix involving a registry entry; not only did it not work, but after some research, I found that it could never have worked. I bought version 5 hoping that it would be compatible. At least it installed, though installing the Take Two software will cause Win 2K to crash. I decided not to install Take Two, and followed Roxio's own instructions about the *two* fixes to apply before even rebooting. I tried to copy a couple of audio CDs and found that the main function of Easy CD Creator 5 is to reboot windows machines. Every time I tried to use either CD Copier or SoundStream, I made a coaster and my PC had a blue screen. I used to swear by this software, but I am returning this version and will never buy a product from Roxio again.
Rating: Summary: Look before you leap! Review: I live in Japan and bought a new Yamaha CDR2100 external SCSI CD writer here in Japan. I needed burning software in English because I use the English version of Win 98. Adaptec's SlimSCSI and the Yamaha CD burner installed fine-- no problems. Then I installed Easy CD Creator Platinum-- also no problems. The problem is I can't use my drive's highest write speed (16x). I have gotten buffer underruns and various other unspecified errors. So far (in two weeks) I've been able to create 12 or so CDs (data and music) and 4+ coasters. In all fairness to Roxio I went to their site before I bought it and there was a blurb to the effect that it might not work so well with my drive and that they and Yamaha "were trying to work things out." One of the reasons I decided on Easy CD was the Take Two backup utility. Then I read in the user's manual that laptops (mine's a Toshiba Satellite 2590CDT) aren't supported for this feature! It would have been nice if they had specified that at the outset. I also couldn't use Roxio's CD copier AT ALL. .... On the upside, I do like Roxio's WAV editor and CD label creator but they just take up so much resources from my system (400Mhz Intel Celeron and 128MB RAM) that for me the whole package isn't worth it.... Maybe this software works great for some folks but it didn't for me. For those of you who are starting out (like I was) please shop around and don't buy something just because it's popular. As for me, I'm going to add the install CD to my set of coasters...
Rating: Summary: Problems Review: I purchased Easy Creator Platinum specifically to put digital photos on a CD. However, every time I try I get an OLE error message. I tried to e mail Roxio and my passwork will not work--even tried reregistering. Then I called long distance at my expence and a man walked me through many changes to my computer for 1/2 hour. When I reinstalled it, the same thing happens. No one knows what OLE error means. And now I can't return it.
Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware!!! Review: I have never dealt with a worse company than Roxio---both their tech supportand their customer support. First the software would not work. After more than 3 hours with 3 different tech support people, they concluded that the software would not work. Then the fun started. I had ,at Roxio's direction, uninstalled my original cd burner. Now Roxio offered to refund my money----if I would jump through their hoops. Imust return all materials at my expense and time. I asked them for replacement software for the software that they caused me to lose. Their response??? That's tough. We have no responsibility for your previous software. Beware. The product doesn't work, and neither does Roxio's support or service.
Rating: Summary: AVOID!! DO NOT BUY!! Review: This program worked ok for the first 10 CDs' I burned, after that my system crashed. I am having alot of problems with the "transitions" to create cross-fades, fade-in, fade-out to start with. I can't save my settings after I create A music list, the "preview" will not let me listen the song I just altered. Oh, and of course, there is the ever popular "Illegal Shutdown" for no reason. I contacted the on-line help, they e-mailed me back and gave me a laundry list of files to change to ".old" then they told me to reinstall the program, download a "patch", and change more files to ".old", change my startup menu, and a few other things that escape my mind. This change worked to allow me to create a song list to burn but my cd writer would not recognize a blank, un-burned disc. I e-mailed them back and they sent similar instructions. I following their instructions to the letter which took over 2 hours to complete with no improved results. The program just will not work at all. I e-mailed them back for the third time and THREE WEEKS LATER they responded by saying: "We regret the delay in responding to your request. At the present time we are receiving a high volume of e-mail regarding similar issues you explained in your two previous correspondence. Please check our web site for future up-dates regarding these and other issues you are facing with Easy CD Creator 5.0." What an outrage! What kind of customer service is this? Customer service with a smile? I don't think so. I say AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!
