Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware! Review: DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE RUNNING WIN XP AND ARE NOT COMPUTER SAVY! YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE!!!!!!!!I have used and been very happy with earlier versions of Adaptec's Easy CD Creator (ECDC). ECDC5 Basic (by Roxio) was bundled on my new DELL computor, however, this basic version is little more than a demo. Roxio will not provide WinXP support for earlier versions of ECDC, thereby forcing you to buy the ECDC5 upgrade. Reading the large number of negative comments about ECDC5 at Amazon, gave me a bad feeling about ECDC5, which was compounded by the frustration of being forced to buy the upgrade. After reluctantly buying ECDC5 and installing it, I WAS FACED WITH THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH when my computer was restarted!!!!!!!! Roxio should never allow this product to be sold without fixing the XP problem before it gets to the home user! What is really unbievable is that Roxio doesn't tell you what to do when you get the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. The ECDC5 box clearly states that it is Win XP compatable, but if you can't get the XP patch and upgrades at Roxio's site - YOU ARE SCREWED!!!! Fortunately the answer is simple, if you know about pressing the F8 key and starting in SAFE MODE. Buy restarting the computer in SAFE MODE after loading ECDC5 and then again after loading the XP Patch and and again after loading the ECDC5 VC upgrade. Also do a "custom" installation and DO NOT load "TAKE TWO" when installing ECDC5. I still have a bad taste in my mouth for Roxio, but ECDC5 seems to be working just fine on my WinXP Computer. Hope this info will help save at least one person's sanity!
Rating: Summary: time on hold for tech support--2 hours!!!! Review: I have used older versions of Easy CD Creator and found that it worked fairly well with my HP CD burner. The interface was good, and so was the reliability. But on win 2000 I needed to upgrade to a more recent version, so I went ahead and bought it. Before I start complaining, I should admit that Roxio has some of the best documentation of any software product in the market. Also, the user interface is nice and intuitive. But there are problems. First, telephone support is the worst in the industry. And I say this after having complained about many companies. I was on hold for two hours for a single phone call, and their telephone system hung me up both times without my reaching a support rep. I never got a chance to talk to a live person--so I demanded a refund, which I had to wait a long time to receive. Apparently the product is not well tested on xp or win 2000. Perhaps, but the telephone support system is seriously defective. Consider another product for that reason alone.
Rating: Summary: IT DESERVES ZERO STARS, BUT THAT WASN'T AN OPTION !! Review: Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum is an absolute and unpredictable disaster on my XP machine. I am running with 768Mb RAM (256 x 3) and with three IBM Ultra160 18Gb hard drives on an Adaptec 29160 SCSI host adaptor. There is no reason why this software should be so slooooowww !!! In addition, it has software bugs that are just completely unexcusable ... even after the XP upgrade patches are installed. When creating a CD image on the hard drive, it asks for CD #1, then it asks for CD #2, then it asks for CD #1 again, then #2 again, and never seems to ask for CD's #3 thru 6. Thru trial-and-error, I am able to "trick" my way around this bug ... but my results are less than perfect. This product is such a complete waste of my time, that I would recommend that YOU completely avoid it even if they start giving it away for free. Your time is worth much more than any money you may think you are saving ... not to mention the frustration. Had I read some of these reviews PRIOR TO purchasing the product, I would not have purchased it. I will install and use the Nero software that just came included with my Yamaha 3200EZ burner. This Roxio stuff is going into the trash can!!!!! It deserves a NEGATIVE rating. I am sure that it's performance in the local landfill will be much better than what I have experienced on my PC. I will NEVER purchase another product produced by Roxio no matter WHAT the reviews say. Personal experience doesn't lie.
Rating: Summary: Crashes instead of Burns Review: No software I have ever used for any purpose has caused so many crashes on my computer with Windows ME. Twice, the only way I could fix the mess was to reinstall Windows. Stay as far away as you can from this one!
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS ! Review: This is junk. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more for something else. This thing is crap and doesn't work.
Rating: Summary: CD Creator 5.0 Review: I have using CD Creator 4 for a long time and loved it. CD creator 5 compare to the 4 is not worth installing, it simply does not do a complete job. Amazon returns is not fair by refunding only half the price charged for unsatisfactory merchandise. The Cd creator advertise was 5.0 for XP and the package came marked 5 for 98-ME. PS The star was needed to send this review. Even Compaq tech. could not help me.
Rating: Summary: great software Review: THIS IS THE BEST AND EASIEST I HAVE USED BY FAR!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Roxio is brain dead Review: I used Easy CD 4 to transfer my old albums to CD and it did a great job splitting tracks. If it did run songs together you could send the recorded file back through to split it again. Easy CD 5 does a lousy job of separating tracks and you cannot send it back through, you have to start over! Very Frustrating! The program is not set up well at all. I think Roxio must have fired all the intelligent people from Adaptec.
Rating: Summary: Awesome for XP Review: First off I would like to say that I can't belive people would give this a bad rating. I have had nothing but good things with this for the last month ive had it. When I got a new computer with Windows XP Home on it, I went out and bought Easy CD 5.0. It was easy to install and the directions were great. I have a been burning CDs for a while now so everything went smooth to me. When my sister (who is a beiginner) went to burn her first CD it gave step by step dirctions on how to do it. She did it in perfect time.
Rating: Summary: Emphatically suggest you do NOT buy it! Review: I made the exact same mistake with version 4.0 that I did with this version. Because it was the newest/greatest I picked it up as soon as it came out and it proceeded destroy my system. I use Win98 SE on a 1gig Athlon with a Toshiba CD-ROM and HP CDRW for those who care. Ever since installing it I have had conflicts with different devices and problems accessing my CD Rom. The famed "blue screen of death" which was almost a distant memory is now returning on a daily basis. I tried uninstalling 5.0 and reinstalling 4.0 but whatever the program did is now permanent in my system. I then reinstalled Win 98 completely and while the conflicts are gone (from a device manager standpoint), the B.S.O.D. still shows up frequently when either my CD-ROM or CDRW is being accessed. Short of reformatting my hard drive, I don't think I'm going to rid myself of this nuisance. I was actually pleased with version 4.0 (after about the 3rd or 4th patch), but this is just inexcusable. Now I understand many Win2000 users are having problems as well. XP users are having a nightmare - even with the patches! Please avoid this software and let this company die. After trying a number of different competitors, I would recommend the much more stable and less bloated Nero for CD Burning. You can find more info about it at ....
