Summary: Great software even if it does cost money.
Review: I won a "pc only" cdrw and was a little frustrated due the fact that it was from a mac contest. I got a copy of Toast Titanium and it was able to recognize even this unsupported cdrw and it works great.

Best features are backgound burning. You can actually use other applications while your cd burns. The latest update at the Roxio site supports CD text. So the song title will appear in the window of your CD player if you have that feature.

The manual is good and explains how to burn a bootable CD and a CD that will be recognized by a PC.

You also get CD SpinDoctor in the deal this will let you record tapes, vinyl, or anything else you plug into the audio in with the cord that is included in the box. If you update to the latest version of Toast Titanium you will have to update CD SpinDoctor, too (or it will break).

There's a CD label software include as well.

Summary: Easy to use, good manual, background burning, CD text support. CD copy button to make copying really easy.

Summary: Eating Burned Toast
Review: I'm taking back some previous bad words about this program. The problem was that I had just mastered iTunes which, at the time, I thought could not be improved upon for burning CD's. Moreover, using a freeware download, I was able to digitize analog signals from vinyl LP's and cassettes, so why had I purchased Toast?

Since then, I've had a chance to give Toast a fuller audition. To overuse those worn-out words by Amazonian enthusiasts: "simply amazing." Toast is as efficient, quick, user-friendly, and intuitive as any program you're likely to encounter (I honestly believe even my parents could have figured it out). Unlike iTunes, Toast does not require that you record music to hard disk before burning to CD, and the bundled program Spin Doctor not only is saving me loads of time in recording analog sources but permits filtering and audio enhancements as well.

Just a couple of recommendations: Don't try to keep moving back and forth between Toast and iTunes for CD burning. I know my iMac won't let me do it due to extension conflicts, and who wants to enable and disable extensions each time you use the program? Keep iTunes for organizing, cataloging, playing; use Toast for creating digital files from analog and then burning anything digital. Also, unless you have lots of time on your hands, beware of getting carried away with the filtering feature (which Toast allows you to monitor in real time). There's no end to the touching up and experimentation you can do. I've discovered that removing a trace of surface noise or tape hiss simply isn't worth the cost in either high frequencies or time and labor.

Summary: Fresh Toast!
Review: I've been an avid user of Adaptec's disc burning software Toast for a little over a year. So I was a bit disappointed when Adaptec decided to let Roxio handle the production of the software. However, when upgrade season came around I still went out and bought myself a full copy of Toast 5. The program received a MAJOR overhaul and it was all for the best. New features include a shiny new interface and background burning. This means that now you can set your CD-RW to burn a CD and then use other software without fear that your machine will lock up or screw up your CD. It also boasts the ability to burn VCDs. There's only one con to the software... Background burning means that now my petty excuses to stop working during burning time are history... It's a superlative addition to your Mac burning needs.

Summary: Buy TOAST at your own risk!
Review: I've had endless problems with this product. Sometimes it runs perfectly, and other times it crashes over and over again, wasting my time and my blank CDs. I know that some people use Toast and have no problems to report, but I also know other people like me who find this software quirky and very frustrating. Plus Roxio's web site is not much help. Of all the many programs I use in my work, Toast is, hands down, the most unreliable software of all time.

Again, I'm not saying don't buy it, but if you do I hope you don't regret it. Lord knows I do.

Summary: Joe in Pittsburgh Says GoGoGo!
Review: LOVE IT Wish I only didn't wait so long to buy a copy. Been using Toast since my first 2x WORM drive. Over the years I've burnt 100's of CDR's and only made a few coasters, mostly because of underburn...(i thik that is what its called ; not geting enough info to the burner in time). anyways I can't wait for the X version then I'm going to go X like 50% or more of my time with my Mac. I'm waiting on a few more pesky programs to go Carbon( Hurry Up Adobe)

Summary: Loaded With Features, Yet Still Missing Some
Review: Roxio Toast Titanium edition is a very complete program that any amateur "ripper" should be happy with. The program's limitless audio burning features and data/video/photo choices make it one of the best programs for customizing CDs and burning Video CDs (VCDs). One of the best features as far as I'm concerned is the MP3 burning ability, which lots of earlier programs did not come with. If you have a MP#-compatible CD player or computer, you can store hundreds of more songs on a MP3 disk than on a regular CD. One of the only features I was disapointed with was the CD labeling software. The software included was only a demo, which was a surprise to me because from the retailer review (which is really just an advertisement) it sounded like I was going to be getting a much better program. I think the PR team at Roxio did a little creative number to get around the fact that it was a demo. The program also did not allow designing of many popular CD inserts...

OVERVIEW

Pros:
-Lots of Features
-MP3 Abilities
-Video/Photo Choices
-Combatibility with many CD-Drives

Cons:
-Bad CD Labeling Software
-iMovie VCD Extension did not Work

Summary: Many formats, easy use
Review: The best feature of Toast is it's many functions and output formats. As well as various music and data formats it also does VCD, which I am using to copy my many D8mm videos of my infant son to more convenient VCDs to view at leisure without plugging in the camera.
I've made one coaster so far, but I deliberately used my Mac for others uses while writing a CD. Burn-Proof? Nope. Leave your Mac/PC alone while burning.
I've also made a bootable CD for That Day.
In Mac World, sure there are some free functions in MacOSX and iTunes, but not integrated into one package.

Summary: Jam sold on False Pretenses:beware!
Review: The primary feature distinguishing Jam from Toast or from any of the other vanilla disk burners is its long-standing ability to meld professional split-stereo files into the track list, i.e. a left and right pair of mono files with .L and .R suffixes. This is the main reason that Jam existed, since it otherwise duplicates practically all the features of Toast. Roxio prominently advertises this feature, and provides directions for implementing it in their documentation. It simply does not work. I now see from a previous message posted here and dated last March that this is not an isolated incident. It is clear that for at least 9 months after this gentleman's review was posted that Roxio has not corrected the problem, nor corrected their claims for the product, nor have they posted any warnings on their site indicating that this key feature is not yet implemented. Instead they lead customers into purchasing the software on the basis of this feature, with total disregard for the responsibility to provide the actual product they advertise. This is called lying.
If it were a matter of a shipment that got out with a small problem that contradicted the manual that would be understandable. But to forgo amending their advertising or website or online manual going on close to a year now is unconscionable. Parlaying misinformation for that long is clearly negligent and deceptive practice.
I would recommend against buying this product, sheerly on principle. There are alternatives that do exactly what it does equally well, and these people don't deserve to be rewarded for bad behaviour. Unfortunately there is no other product that provides this missing feature, at least not in an OS-X compatible version.

Summary: Easy as 1, 2, 3!!!!!
Review: This product is almost universally compatible!! The window is resizable, with simple buttons specifying the type of CD you wish to burn. Click audio, data, copy, or other, and the button turns blue. Pop a blank CD-R into your drive, drag your files into the window, hit that big red glowing record button in the corner, and you're cooking. What a simple way to burn CD's.... even off your PC!
