Summary: Great Product, Very Slow Support
Review: I have been a fan of the Nero line for a good while and still love the product, but their support response time has got to be the slowest. As some have already mentioned, I recently had to wait over a week for a response to a simple registration question I had -- I had to reinstall my system and needed my registration key. I figured I'd have a response the next day considering how simple it was but no. Other than that, though, I'm still satisfied with the product.

Summary: Good software suite
Review: I just bought a Plextor 708A burner, and opted to use this suite rather than their packaged software (Roxio). I found Roxio to be very glitchy. Nero is pretty user friendly and runs smoothly on my Dell Inspiron 8100, 1.6ghz, 384mb Ram, 30gb HD. Be sure to visit Nero's website for their update package, which makes a huge difference in functionality.

Summary: Support Sucks - Stay Far Away
Review: I sent them an email with a support question and it took almost a week one time and the other time I'm still waiting (3+ weeks). Call me stupid, but I even called them once and was ripped off to the tune of $1.29 minute. Nothing like buying it all over again!! I ditched this piece of trash and now have Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and it works great and their support for the one time I needed it is far better - received an email response in a day.

Summary: No issues burning audio CD's under XP
Review: I download (legally) a lot of live music recordings (mostly Grateful Dead). I needed software that would play nice with Windows XP and that would allow me to say "no" to two-second gaps between tracks. So my needs were pretty basic. Perhaps I was lucky, but I've used this product without incident since early February 2004. In that time I've burned roughly about 200 audio discs without a single coaster. The only reason I do not give it five stars is because I haven't had occasion yet to exercise anywhere near the full capability it's supposed to have. No, I did not get a cut from Ahead Software.I use "SmartStart" - I find the interface intuitive and easy to use. I've never reviewed a book, CD, video or software product here before (although I've bought all the above from Amazon), but was inclined to do so now because I had a good experience (so far) and the comments on this product seem to vary a lot. It's working so well, I've never gone to the Nero site to get updates - I'm afraid they'll screw it up.

Summary: Crashed My Computer
Review: After installing this program I rebooted and got a blue screen, after working with their technical support on the phone for about an hour (paying by the minute) they said there was nothing further that could be done. My computer tech was able to get things up and running until I tried to install it again, and yet again, my system goes down. I decided no more Nero after my tech fixed again, I bought Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, installed it, and WOW. the video editing which Nero doesn't do much of at all, was wicked. My advice is to stop paying attention to all this advice and make your own decision. If you want your system to boot, then get Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7.

Summary: What's with the frame rate?
Review: Friends, I bought the Nero 6 Ultra Edition and I did so so that I coould make movies out of the shoots from my cam-corder. I have a Sony TRV-118 and decided to transfer the video onto Nero 6. While I did that I was astonished to see the drag in the frame rate and sound. I mean imagine you shoot a car driving at 35 miles an hour and then transfer the same onto Nero 6. The video will make the car look like it was beating Mach 2.5 while the sound barrier won't even hush leave alone the boom. The sound would remain as is, but the car...well. I tried several movies and stuff, but everytime the same problem kept cropping up. So far I have done one good thing with it and that is shown it off as though I was creating the Star Wars: The Frame Rate Menace. Anyone in the force who could help me configure this? And yet I will give it a 3 star rating. Th box looked pretty good, the price was pretty high, there was a CD in there and I have used it to amuse myself by looking at the software popping up and then me closing it. Salutations to you all,

Summary: Great burning engine, nasty surprise "extras"
Review: The DVD/CD burning engine Ahead has created and their very reliable Nero Aspi make it an excellent straight up burnder, especially for making archive copies of movies. I've not--knock on wood-had any coasterizations using it. Whereas the crappy burning program my six months old Vaio PCV-420 came with created a number of coasters and finally had to be relegated to the dark corner of the hdd. However in the "advanced" or "ultra" features than Ahead so touts you discover that you cannot use them after paying your $75 bucks. To full use their MPEG-4 creator, their re-authoring package or even their DVD viewer (!) you have to cough up at least $50 more bucks--and, and another reviewer noted, that's not even couting the $19.95 you have to pony up to be able to rip MP3s--which is just plain stupid when there are good free progs--or far less expensive ones--that can do all these things at least as good--certainly not WORSE than Nero. I'm talking about DVD-Shrink (which has an excellent burner), DVD-Decrypter and many others. Check out doom9.com's site for the full information of DVD/CD burner software and LEGAL archiving of DVDs. I got my copy of Nero Ultra as a gift and that's the only way I'd take it. It is utterly ridiculous--but seemingly a common tactic of German companies--to provide tantalizing goodies only to hit you with a laundry list of must-buy options that cost more than the original package. Not only that, but beyond the Tools, Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express, the rest of the "tools" are not terribly intuitive and far more timeconsuming to learn that the freeware products mentioned above. The reauthoring tool of DVD Shrink had me actually doing it whereas after twenty minutes of NeroVision I was hopelessly lost. Not only that but trying to use the authoring prog (Nero "Recode") gets you the following messages: "Due to copy right reasons Dolby Multi-Channel and Decoding are not available except for purchase...." which leads you to Ahead's website where you have to privelege of plunking down another $19.95 EACH. The second message informs you. The MPEG-4 convertor has a similar message. In short, the basic engine is great. The company's bait-and-switch attitude is a real turn-off and rip off. And finally, excepting really only Burning ROM, the rest of the products lack any real feel for "ease of use" or a sense of how Newbies and casual repeat users can quickly go about their work--assuming they've paid the extra $50 to $75 bucks on top of the $74.99 to get the package full functional. Because for that price you should never get ANYTHING but the full package. Ahead's Prez Fabian clearly has a low opinion of his customers. We're only wallets. That's what gets this product a two instead of a three. 90% of this "D" grade is due to the numerous demands for more cash to enable basic functionality and lack of a spirit of "ease" of use" in the more advanced products. All in all, corporate greed and lack of innovative feel and touch turn what should be a great package into a grossly, crassly expensive con-game.

Summary: Poor docs, no copying protected DVDs, but it works
Review: I have happily used Nero 5.5 for over 2 years, but when I bought a nice new Plextor DVD burner, 5.5 wouldn't find it, so I reluctantly "upgraded" to 6.3.0.2. Now I can see and use my new drive! Well, kind of. First of all you can't copy protected DVDs, which is a complete slap in the face to consumers. DVD pirates just rent out a "legit" place for a night and make 1000 copies bit-by-bit, this silly game only serves to stick it to us. Second, the documentation for this is terrible. I went online and looked around for my problem (which is coming next) and I found the solution in the FAQ. I should say I found *a* solution there because their instructions had me trying to click on File -> Imaginary Fairie Land Button That Doesn't Exist In 6.0. I poked around some more and found a lot more sales pitches and glamorous features I could buy, but nothing particularly helpful. Summary: If you don't have a specific reason to upgrade from something else, simplify your life and stay where you are. But it works.

Summary: Overrated, Over-priced, Underperforms, Under-serviced
Review: Fool me once shame on Ahead/Nero. Fool me twice shame on me. (Nero 5 came with the original burner. Nero 6 Ultra was purchased to go with the new computer.) Why I ever gave this company a second chance is beyond comprehension. Oh, and am I sorry. The system is unstable. 1.CD was corrupted is mid-use files relfected "InCD" etc.(This required the purchase of resuce software to retrieve) 2. Correctly formatting of RW CD's abruptly stopped "no free space." 3. Files that are successfully copied are done "read only", which means on editing, deleting etc. (Still working these) Finding the solution within the manuals or FAQ's takes hours if at all. However, that is certainly better than contacting Ahead/Neor Customer Service, which promises service within three business days -- don't hold your breath -- first try no response; second try 16 days. If and when an answer is received is it presented in formats worthy of most "nerds." This is definately not software designed for the masses. So, if you fall into the category of "advanced" you may be willing to gamble on this product. Although, I wouldn't recommend it.

Summary: worth the money
Review: i'm a hard core burner; i backup 20+ GB spanned zip files on DVD+R's, make VCD/SVCD's on CD-R quite often, and i make CDDA mixes on cd-rw. This software did everything i expected it to do in those regards. I like how you can choose a "quick" mode where everything is automated but if you want to you can choose an "expert" mode where every possible option is available. Picking modes is very easy thanks to the pretty well-made startup UI. The buffer-underrun protection has worked great so far as well. I love it. Though the software was a bit expensive, i have found it to be worth the money. It's worked flawless for me and i've found more features than i expected to find. Good stuff.
